That Film You Slept Through Lately, What Was It?

Dreamgirls (2006) starring Jennifer Hudson, Eddie Murphy, Jamie Foxx
Spider-Man 3 (2007) starring Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, Topher Grace
Volver (2006) starring Penelope Cruz, Carmen Maura, Lola Dueñas

Dreamgirls was disappointing, very much so. I'm now glad it wasn't nominated for Best Picture. Also I was much more interested in the character of Deena Jones then I am in the real person of Beyonce Knowles. Before Jones in the movie turned into Knowles herself, then yeah. Also, needed more Eddie Murphy. Much more. Oh and Hudson was good too, just the diva gimmick got old fast.

The biggest problem with movie musicals is trying to adjust to the moments when people are having a normal conversation and one of them suddenly breaks out into song.

This. Dreamgirls f***ed this up, hard. Singing your emotions in a regular conversation? WTF? The funniest thing I heard about the film is that Dreamgirls is a mess at times and does Condon fix it? No, he turns up the volume and hopes you don't notice. Lol.

Volver was good, and Cruz killed it. Nice and clever cinematography too. And there's a seperate thread about Spider-Man 3, so I'll bitch about that there. Wow, there were more tears in Spider-Men 3 then there was in Volver. That's... not a good sign, yeah.
Peace.

A Streetcar Named Desire (1951) starring Marlon Brando, Vivien Leigh, Kim Hunter

Damn, this film is angry. Poetic anger and Vivien Leigh' Blanche is like a blonde, more experienced and crazy version of Scarlett O'Hara. And of course, Marlon Brando killed it as usual.

HEY STELLA!
Peace.

Little Miss Sunshine (2006) starring Toni Collette, Steve Carrell, Greg Kinnear

...yeah its good and funny, but this really shouldn't have been nominated for Best Picture. I'm just saying.
Peace.

28 Weeks Later

Initially I was really skeptical, and while I guess overall the first movies still better, this was pretty damn neat.

Also I appreciated how

2005 film Mirrormask. Not the best I've ever seen, but visually, it's pretty damn cool.

The Best Years of Our Lives (1946) Fredic March, Dana Andrews, Harold Russell
Boogie Nights (1997) starring Mark Wahlberg, Burt Reynolds, Julianne Moore
The Constant Gardener (2005) starring Rachel Weisz, Ralph Fiennes, Danny Huston
The Greatest Show on Earth (1953) Charlton Heston, Betty Huston, Jimmy Stewart

Glad to finally see The Best Years of Our Lives. Its one of those Best Picture winners that could win one if it was released today, and there aren't too many of those when you look back on them.

Also, I liked Philip Seymour Hoffman in Boogie Nights. That scene with him crying after kissing Wahlberg was damn good acting.
Peace.
