The Daniel Craig 007 Discussion thread

Here it is...the Daniel Craig 007 discussion thread. This is where you either defend the casting of Daniel Craig...or feel it was a horrible move by EON Productions via the choice by producer Barbara Broccoli.

Personally, I was stunned to see the producers go with a "mediocre" looking actor to play James Bond. And this is putting it mildly. We've been hearing nothing but either "coincidental" incidents that either prove the naysayers that he was a terrible choice (can't drive a manual Aston Martin, couldn't take the weather in the Bahamas, never wanted to be James Bond while growing up, suffered mishap calling for emergency dental surgery) to simply bad luck.

If you've seen the CraigisnotBond website then you'll be interested to see the numbers of people who say he shouldn't be James Bond. I count myself as one of those. They should have allowed Pierce Brosnan to have the last film before searching for a new Bond. My personal choices would have included Evon McGregor, Clive Owen, Hugh Jackman or Eric Bana. Even MI-5 (Spooks) actor Matthew MacFadden would have been a good choice. But nooo...they went with Daniel Craig.

He'd rather be leaping from tree to tree, as they float down the rivers of the mighty rivers of British Columbia. With his best girl by his side, and he would sing...sing...sing.

The bastard's blond. Bond is not blond.

It was a big turnoff for me when I saw Mr. Craig for the first time. I was never a fan of Pierce Brosnan, but at least he looked the part.
Sean Connery was to me the only authentic James Bond. None of the others really filled the role like he did. And this one will certainly not do so either.

Brosnan kicked ass, but he's starting to get pudgy.

Ewan MacGregor isn't quite old enough, even though he was an amazing 35 year old Obi-Wan Kenobi.

I think Craig is actually the first English born actor to be Bond.

Don't tell me that was the reason Barbara Broccoli and co didn't look at Ewan MacGregor! The guy has been in numerous movies. Plus he's solidified his immortality by playing the young Obi Wan Kenobi. He will always be remembered as Obi Wan.

That's saying EON Production knows better than ILM headed by George Lucas!

Nevertheless, I was surprised to learn that (probably a PR move) that Barbara Brocolli has announced ALREADY that Daniel Craig is being ramped up for yet another Bond movie...and this comes even BEFORE we've yet to see Casino Royale. Methinks they're trying too hard to prove to the viewing public that Daniel Craig is Bond. In my opinion, that's not a good sign.

If it's true Casino Royale is coming in late this year (November)...it could run right smack against potentially better movies thereby siphoning off its potential revenue. If they wanted to capitalize on Daniel Craig being Bond...they should immediately move up the release date for say...late July or August. Holding out for November is extremely risky in my opinion.

Maybe that's why they didn't go with McGregor, he's so completely Obi-Wan. Maybe they wanted someone who wasn't such a big name. Always being remembered as any character, no matter how awesome, might be bad for the movie because Bond is pretty un-jedi-like. I didn't even know that he was being considered.

anyway I think Brosnan's contract was out anyway, and he wanted to move away from the Bond thing.

Roger Moore was born in england, I do believe.

i absolutly LOVE roger moore as bond.

He looks like Steve McQueen, not like James Bond.

Connery is the superior bond. Brosnan and Moore are next, though Brosnan was really only good in Goldeneye. Whoever was in that ghetto mexican James bond sucked, though... I don't think it was Moore, but it might have been...
Travis Bickle 03-26-2006 04:56 PM
He was awesome in Layer Cake. He's the only reason I actually want to see the movie.

Big Money...your description of Daniel Craig as Steve McQueen is so spot on...that I'd like to mention your observation to the CraigisnotBond website (or you can do it yourself by visiting the site). They have a whimsical page listing side by side photos of actors that Daniel Craig resembles. One of the photos cracked me up...because it showed proof that Daniel Craig resembles the late Frank Gorshin (the Riddler of the Batman series). But your mention of Steve McQueen is simply too good to pass up. The admins of that site would love to see the photos of these two side by side to show exactly how good this comparison is.

But Steve McQueen was such a badass!

I guess I was wrong about the England thing. I heard some random bit of trivia that none of the actors were actually English...Brosnan = Irish, Connery = Scottish, I think Moore was Welsh or something....whatever.
Big Money 03-26-2006 08:35 PM
Mike: yeah, I know... Somehow, the similarity gives me a glimmer of hope, however distant...

Dorothyfan: Go ahead Smile .

Too bloody right.

Connery is the ONLY Bond as far as I'm concerned. There has been no successor to the Bond title that is worthy of filling Connery's shoes.

Plus Connery totally pwns Trebeck... you don't see including David Niven doin that now do ya? DO YA!?
X Prime 03-26-2006 09:45 PM
Moore was the best Bond just because he starred in Man with the Golden Gun, I'm sorry. Connery was VERY, VERY good though.
Mike 03-26-2006 09:47 PM
He also starred in Moonraker and...antother stinker. forget which one.
Jim Starluck 03-26-2006 10:16 PM
Regardless of who plays Bond, any Casino Royale movie they make will never, EVER replace the 1967 film with Peter Sellers, David Niven, Ursula Andress, Orson Welles and Woody Allen. Why do they even bother? Tongue
Generalissimo D 03-26-2006 10:17 PM
Bond movies bore me.

But by total chance, the theme from Casino Royale got stuck in my head for two weeks.

It's cool to say Connery was the best, ignoring the fact that Moore had some great films and Brosnan did a bang-up job as well.

Man with the Golden Gun is one of my favorites. Scaramanga was a great villain.

As for this new guy...too early for me to say anything. He may not look the part, but if he can act it, I've got no problem.
M.S. Feather 03-26-2006 11:44 PM
I'm not a fan of the idea of him becoming the next Bond.

I think the only film I've ever seen him in is Road to Perdition, in which his character demanded a rather serious attitude. So I'm not exactly familiar with how broad his acting skills can be.

As far as I can tell he doesn't have the charisma of Connery and Moore and he sure isn't the piece of eye-candy that Brosnan was. In fact I don't find Craig attractive in the least (Bond should be handsome!).

So...I guess I can only hope he does a half decent acting job. Oh Well
