The Daniel Craig 007 Discussion thread

Kicked ass. Basically. The first Bond with a believable plot line in a few decades. The best action sequence in the first five minutes of a movie in basically the history of movies. Also, Daniel Craig beats Pierce Brosnan's ass, surpirsingly. The movie includes a torture scene that'll make you readjust your position in your seat but otherwise every moment kicked ass.
Overall: Kicked a severe amount of ass. See it twice.

That torture scene was in the book, and it was very detailed in there as well. Glad to see it make the film.

Also, there's also this thread ( http://www.paradigm-city.com/forums/thread.php?threadid=13750&threadview=0&
hilight=&hilightuser=0&page=1
)that's already talking about the new James Bond movie, so yeah.

But nonetheless, I really want to see this.
Peace.

Extremely badass. I especially liked the part where M called him a blunt instrument.

Loved it...first Bond movie I saw in a theatre since Tomorrow Never Dies (?? The one where the media mogul tries to take over the world?? [yawn!!])...I thought it was awesome...Money Penny is hot...though Im disappointed with the ending, but now its understandable why Bond acts the way he does....sucks what happened to the Martin...oh well.

Bond was extremely believable this time, which was nice...it seems the series finally got back to its roots.

In case anyone didn't know, Casino Royale, which was the first Bond novel, is the start of a new Bond series. In this movie, Bond is promoted to double-O status and sent on his first mission.

There aren't any plans to remake any of the previous films, even though most of them bare little resemblence to the novels.

Ms. Monneypenny isn't in the film.

Money Penny is in the film...she's the character of Vesper Lynd...its assumed she's the "first" Money Penny...and it lays the groundwork and reasoning for why Bond "woos" and sweet talks the other Money Penny's from the other films...

You're right though, Casino Royale is a prequel of sorts. It goes back and shows how Bond gets his taste in cars, martinis, and when he gets his double-O status.

Wait, no. Moneypenny and Vesper are two separate people. Vesper Lynd was brought in to bankroll James during the poker game.

Anyway, the movie was straight. I... didn't really like the ending and I was thinking that they were going to steal the ending from On My Maestic's Secret Service. Good thing they didn't and Eva Green was f***ing fine.

The beginning sequence kicked ass and James killing those two guys in the stairway was amazing. Craig did a much better job than I thought, and he brought a certain edge and ruthlessness that no one else brought to Bond before (not saying that he was the best, but yeah). Also, the games and Bond's quips were fun as well. Now, I'm going to go over the book again (the torture scene in the book was much, much better than displayed in the movie).
Peace.

As an action movie that was okay, but as a Bond movie Casino Royale sucked ass.

I don't care what Bond is like in the books, that was not Bond. Even though the whole movie was supposed to be about him developing, they didn't even get him right at the end. What made Bond cool in the past is that he was a gentleman spy. If he wanted to speak with a villain, he would walk up to him and challange him to some sort of classy activity or have a drink with him. Bond would NEVER shoot a man from the bushes with an automatic rifle before introducing himself (Well I guess he would now Roll Eyes ). I paid to see James Bond, not 24.

The Bond in Casino Royale is mega boring since he lost all his class. He's really generic. Before this film, Bond movies were going downhill fast, but at least they weren't boring.

I will say one thing though. I liked the snake/mongoose fight in the begining. Exotic locations have been missing from Bond for a while.

Well said, Wazpy. Because this is a perfect and simple description of what the movie basically is.

Eh, bad form man. Compared to the Bonds in the past, sure this Bond is pretty much a hack but that's pretty much the point of it all. There were taking it back. Bond wasn't always classy and a complete gentleman all the time and the movie made showed that. A bit too much and over the top most of the time, but it was done correctly. If you cared about Bond in the bookx, you would know that. For example, in the beginning with the bathroom scene. Would Roger Moore's Bond do that? And what, get piss from the floor on his tuxedo? Hell nah, but the Bond starting out in the beginning would surely do that. I'm just saying, Bond started out as a thug pretty much then over time, he became the classy gentlemen that everyone has come to adore.

Also, while Judi Dench killed it as usual (she can pretty much read the McDonalds menu and be nominated for an Oscar for it these days), the way her (M) and Bond interacted was pretty much whack. Now of unrealism on the Bond character, Bond would never had hacked into M's system, let alone find out what M's real name is. Also that reminds me, that scene with M waking up with a guy in her bed made me lol.
Peace.

Yeah, bu the reason I say they got Bond all wrong is because even after they finished developing him and played the music at the end, he still wasn't a gentleman. The Bond I love would have come up to the guy at the end and challanged him to a game of golf, or they'd have gone to watch horse races together, or something classy. He would not have shot the guy in the leg from the bushes.

I don't think the writers were thinking, "Lets show his progress towards gentleman spy." Instead they were like, "Let's show how he became the impossible, non-nonsense killing machine that he is in the video games." I predict the next movies will all feature this Bauer-Bond and everyone will loe them but me Frown

Also, M is horrible, but that's nothing new.
