"If I had a box just for wishes
and dreams that had never come true
the box would be empty except
for the memory of how they
were answered by you

But there never seems to be enough time
to do the things you wanna do
once you find them

I've looked around enough to know
that you're the one I wanna go through
time with"

I doubt anyone knows this one. It's quite old.

And who is Box Car Racer? Confused

I'm about to date myself in a BIG way.

Jim Croce, Time in a Bottle. We sang it in 6th grade for chorus. Smile

Hey nice Zola. I didn't know what the name of that song was, thanks. If I probably sang it in public today I might get hurt.

Lyrics and a link to buy.

Box Car Racer is pretty decent. I sometimes steal their first album from my kids. Smile Maybe Amazon has some clips that you can listen to.

Box Car Racer is one of my favorite bands. Obviously.

You've heard of Blink 182, right?

Well, get rid of Mark, add Anthony Celestino and David Kennedy, and you have Box Car Racer.

While two of the members are from Blink, their music is different.

BCR is more hardcore, alternative, etc. Blink's songs are very upbeat and happy. BCR's are more emotional, but, not sappy. WAY NOT sappy.

You should listen to them. Not many people know who they are.

I'm only going to quote verses from songs:

"Everybody must get stoned"
--Bob Dylan, Rainy Day Women #12 & 35

"Everybody's got something to hide, 'cept for me and my monkey"
-Beatles, Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except Me and My Monkey
(White Album)

I'm too lazy to write in the lyrics for other songs, but I suggest you find them:

White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane (pointing out all the drug references
in Alice in Wonderland, more or less)

Puff the Magic Dragon, by Peter, Paul, & Mary (Just one big drug
reference)

And, I end with a question. Does anyone listen to Stephen Lynch?
dorothyrocks 10-19-2003 02:48 PM
Oooh. Another song is stuck in my head.

"Take it Easy" by the Eagles

'Standin' on a corner,
In Winslow, Arizona.
Such a fine sight to see'

Anyone ever actually been to Winslow????

I have!!! My step-family lives there!

You ought to try some of it, you may like it.

I like Saliva, Lincoln Park...Edie Brickell just came out with a new one, it's nice and mellow...I like Audio Slave, Nickelback, Evanescence...I have very eclectic musical tastes Smile

One pill makes you larger, and one pill makes you small,
And the ones that Mother gives you don't do anything at all.
Go ask Alice when she's ten feet tall.
And if you go chasing rabbits, and you know you're going to fall,
Tell 'em a hookah-smoking caterpillar has given you the call.
Call Alice when she was just small.
When the men on the chess board get up and tell you where to go,
And you've just had some kind of mushroom, and your mind is moving low,
Go ask Alice. I think she'll know.
When logic and proportion have fallen sloppy dead,
And the white knight is talking backward, and the red queen's off with her head,
Remember what the Dormouse said: "Feed your head! Feed your head!"

There's White Rabbit. Hard to believe it's by the same group who did 'We Built This City'.

Considering I wrote a supernatural thriller around that song, it's one of my faves. And my mom sang it back when she was in high school in her boyfriend's band. Bonus points!

"There is nothing more dangerous
Than a man with nothing to lose,
Nothing to live for, Nothing to prove.."
Dead can Dance-I can see now, from the cd "Toward the Within"

This song has been stuck in my head for a few weeks now, (since I heard the New Found Glory version of it, lol), and it was on TV earlier!

"Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high,
There's a land that I heard of
Once in a lullaby.
Somewhere over the rainbow
Skies are blue,
And the dreams that you dare to dream
Really do come true.

Someday I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far
Behind me.
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
Away above the chimney tops
That's where you'll find me.

Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly.
Birds fly over the rainbow.
Why then, oh why can't I?

If happy little bluebirds fly
Beyond the rainbow
Why, oh why can't I?"

-'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' from the Wizard of Oz. And, New Found Glory did an awesome cover of it!
Lady Tesser 12-08-2003 07:46 AM
Yay, "Somewhere Over the Rainbow"!

Queen in the 1980's - "I'm Going Slightly Mad".

When the outside temperature rises
And the meaning is oh so clear
One thousand and one yellow daffodils
Begin to dance in front of you - oh dear
Are they trying to tell you something ?
You're missing that one final screw
You're simply not in the pink my dear
To be honest you haven't got a clue
I'm going slightly mad
I'm going slightly mad
It finally happened - happened
It finally happened - ooh woh
It finally happened - I'm slightly mad - oh dear !
Ha ha ha ha ha

I'm one card short of a full deck
I'm not quite the shilling
One wave short of a shipwreck
I'm not my usual top billing
I'm coming down with a fever
I'm really out to sea
This kettle is boiling over
I think I'm a banana tree
Oh dear
I'm going slightly mad
I'm going slightly mad (I'm going slightly mad)
It finally happened - happened
It finally happened - uh huh
It finally happened - I'm slightly mad - oh dear !

Uh uh ah ah
Uh uh ah ah

I'm knitting with only one needle
Unravelling fast it's true
I'm driving only three wheels these days
But my dear, how about you ?
I'm going slightly mad
I'm going slightly mad
It finally happened
It finally happened - oh yes
It finally happened - I'm slightly mad !
Just very slightly mad !
And there you have it !

"Woodstock" - Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young

I came upon a child of God
He was walking along the road
When I asked him, "where are you going?"
This he told me

I'm going down to Yasgur's farm
Gonna join a rock and roll band
I'm going to camp out on the land
And try and get my soul free

We are stardust
We are golden
And we've got to get ourselves back to the garden

Then can I walk beside you
I have come here to lose the smog
I feel just like a cog
In something turning

Well maybe it's the time of year
Or maybe it's the time of man
I don't know who I am
But life is for learning

We are stardust
We are golden
And we've got to get ourselves back to the garden

By the time I got to Woodstock
They were half a million strong
Everywhere there was song and celebration

I dreamed I saw the bombers
Riding shotgun in the sky
Turning into butterflies above our nation

We are stardust
We are golden
And we've got to get ourselves back to the garden

We are stardust
We are golden
And we've got to get ourselves back to the garden

Heh, I thought I'd bring this up Smile . Ive been recently taking interest in a particular anime, and for some reason, this Nickelback(whom I really like Smile )) song popped up in my head in its reference, and absolutely refused to leave all day long; it's playing in my head right as I type Embarrassed Sweatdrop

How the hell did we wind up like this
Why weren't we able
To see the signs that we missed
And try to turn the tables

I wish you'd unclench your fists
And unpack your suitcase
Lately there's been too much of this
Dont think its too late

Nothing's wrong
just as long as
you know that someday I will

Someday, somehow
gonna make it allright, but not right now
I know you're wondering when
(You're the only one who knows that)
Someday, somehow
gonna make it allright, but not right now
I know you're wondering when

Well i hoped that since we're here anyway
We could end up saying
Things we've always needed to say
So we could end up stringing
Now the story's played out like this
Just like a paperback novel
Lets rewrite an ending that fits
Instead of a hollywood horror

Nothing's wrong
just as long as
you know that someday I will

Someday, somehow
gonna make it allright, but not right now
I know you're wondering when
(You're the only one who knows that)
Someday, somehow
gonna make it allright but not right now
I know you're wondering when
(You're the only one who knows that)

I think I should really thank dorothyrocks. I'm really glad this thread is here; I'm a big music fan Big Grin

This song pretty much sums up how I've been feeling recently.

Frantic by Metallica

If I could have have my wasted days back
Would I use them to get back on track?
Stop to warm at karmas burning
Or look ahead, but keep on turning?

Do I have the strength
To know how I'll go?
Can I find it inside
To deal with what I shouldn't know?

Could I have my wasted days back
Would I use them to get back on track?

You live it or lie it!

My lifestyle determines my deathstyle

Keep searching, keep on searching
This search goes on, this search goes on

Frantic tick tick tick tick tick tick tock
Frantic tick tick tick tick tick tick tock

I've worn out always being afraid
An endless stream of fear that I've made
Treading water full of worry
This frantic tick tick talk of hurry

Do I have the strength
To know how I'll go
Can I find it inside
To deal with what I shouldn't know?

Worn out always being afraid
An endless stream of fear that I've made

You live it or lie it!

My lifestyle determines my deathstyle

keep searching, keep on searching
This search goes on, this search goes on

Frantic tick tick tick tick tick tick tock
Frantic tick tick tick tick tick tick tock

My lifestyle (birth is pain)
Determines my deathstyle (life is pain)
A rising tide (death is pain)
That pushes to the other side (It's all the same)

I would post the "Fish" Chant/I-Feel-Like-I'm-Fixin'-To-Die Rag by Country Joe McDonald, from Woodstock, but it is a bit inappropriate (those of you who have heard it know what I mean).

Anway, Lynard Skynard-Freebird it is:

If I leave here tomorrow
Would you still remember me?
For I must be travelling on, now,
'Cause there's too many places I've got to see.
But, if I stayed here with you, girl,
Things just couldn't be the same.
'Cause I'm as free as a bird now,
And this bird you can not change.
Lord knows, I can't change.

Bye, bye, its been a sweet love.
Though this feeling I can't change.
But please don't take it badly,
'Cause Lord knows I'm to blame.
But, if I stayed here with you girl,
Things just couldn't be the same.
Cause I'm as free as a bird now,
And this bird you'll never change.
And this bird you can not change.
Lord knows, I can't change.
Lord help me, I can't change.

Im not entirely sure I've even heard the full thing...

Yeah, I'd love to just start posting the lyrics to "Battle of shiloh hill" or "Virginias bloody soil", but..its late, I dont fully remember them, and Im getting the feeling it'd be a bit...strange, to just digress into songs about the civil war.

Remember when you ran away
And I got on my knees
And begged you not to leave
Because I'd go beserk

Well you left me anyhow
And then the days got worse and worse
And now you see I've gone
Completely out of my mind!

And!

They're coming to take me away Ha Haa!
They're coming to take me away Ho Ho HEE HEE HA HAA!!!
To the funny farm
Where life is beautiful all the time
And I'll be happy to see those nice young men

In their clean white coats
And they're coming to take me away HA HAAA!!

You thought it was a joke and so you laughed, you laughed when I had said that losing you would make me flip my lid.. RIGHT???

I know you laughed, I heard you laugh, you laughed you laughed and
laughed and then you left, but now you know I'm utterly mad... And..

*Zola shrieks as the nice young men in their clean white coats drag her away*
