Lights, camera, action!

Hello there,

as we all know, Paradigm City is a sort of TV-show, made for an audience we don't know. It is not scripted (or at least we don't know whether it's scripted or not) so it's a sort of reality TV-thing. Now, this of course brings up a lot of questions like: Where's the cameras? Who's the audience? Why would they make a TV-show like that?

First question about the cameras: Yesterday, I happened to zap into one of the awesome BBC-documentaries and this one was about big cats (lions, tigers...) and the images were stunning. They came really close to the animals and they didn't even notice. Somehow this reminded me of "The Paradigm show" (and this name will be dropped after this post, because I think I've got if figured out). Thing is, they had to hide the cameras. Now, if you had to watch humans, where would you hide your cameras? Under a table? under the ceiling in the thing where a ceiling fan is attached to the ceiling? Inside an empty flat? Watch the first episode again and look at the camera angles. This also explains why we see the same perspectives over and over again. Now, why do those things look so spectacular on the show. Because the directors want us to keep on watching. Why do you think we want a third season? Because we want to see how it goes on. Mission accomplished. This is probably also why they threw in a couple of Megadei and erased the memory of the "actors". Sure, these days, people aren't able to erase memories and build Megadei, so "The Big O" is set somewhere in the future. Fifty years from now maybe, who knows. It actually doesn't really matter.

Now that we've figured out where some of the cameras are and why we never see them, we can easily find out who the audience is. And coming to think of it, it's so simple and it was always hidden in plain sight. Now, who's watching the Big O? We are. So who's the audience? The people who see Paradigm through these cameras. And who sees Paradigm through these cameras? We do. And who was "The Big O" produced for? For us. We are the people outside the big dome watching Roger, Dorothy and all the others.

The last question above is the "Why?". And the answer is once again quite simple. You could ask the same question about Big Brother. Why on earth do they make a show like that? Simple, because people watch it. It's all about ratings and commercials.

This is actually a quite clever twist and it explains a lot. Like, why was the android killer wearing a NY-cap? Not because he's from NY or because Paradigm = NY, but because the directors wanted the audience to have something to think about. They simply wanted to create a sort of cliffhanger.

Of course, there's a lot of speculations in there, that's why I'm posting it. I want to hear others' thoughts on this. Basically, I'd like to hear from you what you think of my big theory. Maybe someone has brought that up before, I don't know...

Thanks for your feedback.

Hmm... But that doesn't explain Big O completely, it just seems to me that you've explained the anime bit of it and splashed a bit of the show into the description, it doesn't really give a satisfactory answer.
But then, it might be the truth and we just don't wanna hear something like it... Do we want to know the truth? After all when we find out we'll have little to do but disprove it... *sighs*

Yes we can. Not the Megadei but there is now a drug (still being developed) which can wipe areas of memories, intrest is shown for millitary and PTSD suffers.
This is what I found on the subject a little while back and posted:

Now before I start: It seems to me that Roger deffinatly suffers from PTSD; the fits ECT... And he's said things about how memories are nessecery for humans of something like that...

Meh dad has got his New Scientist magazine through today, and I walked past it and gaped. The main head line on the front was this:

REWRITE YOUR PAST
Say goodbye to unwanted memories.

I haven't read the whole article yet, but when I do, I'll post the info here.

Rewriting your past,
drugs that rid people of terrifying memories could be a lifeline for many. But could they have a sinister side to?
Gaia Vince investigates

{PTSD = Post traumatic stress disorder}

Quotes from article:
"Whether triggered by a terrorist attack or a natural disaster, a violent crime or a car crash, people with PTSD can be plagued by terrifying flashbacks and suffer crippling fear in reaction to reminders of their trauma."---
Roger's fits/flash backs?

"Not everyone is entirely comfortable with the notion of developing drugs to alter unwanted memories. Memories make up a big part of what it means to be human..."---
Didn't Roger/someone mention something like this?

"Few would be happy with the idea of giving soldiers a drug that made the memory of killing someone no more troubling than that of cleaning thair boots." ---
Dominuses from befor the Event? Roger seems to have some traumatic memories of piloting Big O...

(Mention of how the deletion of wanted memories can be advoided.)

If I can find the origional artical I might post more but don't hold your breath.

Ok, if you're right, Big O is just a show. With no point. Or rather, the point of it is that it's a show. Which is just stupid.

I was so waiting for someone to call my theory stupid. Could you please explain why it is stupid?

I wasn't saying that the theory is stupid. In fact, it might be right on.

I was saying that if Big O is a show about a show, THAT is stupid.
