I saw a Big O comic book titled "3-4"?!

I went to my local Borders bookstore recently and I was checking the comic racks. I almost had a heart attack...because I saw a Big O comic book!! Judging from the coloring of the comic..it was aging...but it didn't give a year or date of publication. So somebody help me out here...it shows Beck on the cover. And the title of the comic was "3-4".

I didn't understand the significance of the "3-4" and what it meant...until...I had this leap of inspiration...it's a clue we might get a Seasons 3 and 4 for Big O!! So I just had to read this comic book then and there. I did...and based on what I've read...this may be POST Season 2 material!!

It was a fascinating story too. It's about Roger and Dorothy discovering an abandoned section of Paradigm City...with no residents. And they come upon this old guy...a sort of comic Falstaff character spouting wisdom under its jests. I immediately saw parellels to Shakespeare. But it gets better. It shows Roger Smith suddenly getting visions of Schwarzwald in his head. The ghost of Schwarzwald demanding how Roger could control Big O without having a past or memories. It was a fascinating scene in this comic book...because in Dorothy's eyes...Roger Smith seemed "drunk". I'm theorizing as I was reading the comic book that this scene may be evidence that Roger Smith is an android...and he was getting a computer virus in his programming. Later on in this surreal scene...Big O goes on a sudden rampage...attacking Dan Dastun's Military Squadrons, destroying buildings...and at one point we see Angel standing in front of Big O and yelling "Stop!" and Dorothy saying the same thing...and then...we revert back to the beginning of the story where Dorothy and Roger are exploring the town...with apparently no memories of what had just happened. Creepy.

So...has anybody seen this comic book and can they tell us more about when it was published? Because I swear to God I saw it recently at my local bookstore.

Yeah, there was a Big O manga a while back. I believe it went to 6 volumes. Viz released most of it (all?) in comic book form, but now you mainly see it in normal manga volumes. I have no idea what it was about. I think there is a thread about it.

"3-4" just means, volume 3, chapter 4. Don't go jumping to conclusions like we're getting a third and fourth season of Big O just because of that. I doubt we'll even get a third.

Edit: Yeah, I actually have the issue you are talking about. It's got Beck on the cover, right?

I saw it a while back and thought I was going crazy. Sure enough, I wasn't.

I think they discontinued them, though.

It sounds like the volume 3 story called "Alcohol, Tobacco, and Memories" (which is the fourth story in that volume). Especially the bits about the old man and what he said, plus Schwarzwald's ghost showing up. And, yes, Roger is indeed drunk because of all the booze he drank with the old man before the military police showed up.

They do remember what happened, it's just that the old man didn't care that his place got destroyed.

Yeah....as previously stated, it's the manga. You see, a long time ago, Viz used to release manga (bi-)monthly (?) in seprate issues that later were collected into graphic novels. Big O was one of those manga. Heck, I still have some of the old Pokemon ones somewhere that I bought at a comic book store. But Viz has since stoped that practice (If you don't count the magazines) and now releases them as Graphic novels only.

The Big O manga has been on the market now for a while. You can buy volumes 1-5. Though Lost Memory (A.K.A the manga based of the second season and volumes 6 and 7) have not been released state side, most likely due to the fact, Big O isn't that popular.

With all he's gone though I wouldn't be surprised. I really wish the comics were sold down here where I am, I'd love to read them, however I've lost close to all hope that there'll ever be a season 3, let alone 4. But there's still hope...
