Mother figures need not apply

Hi everyone. It's been a while since I last posted. My old desktop computer crashed and died a horrible death so I was pretty much out for the count. Now that I have a new computer (Dell Inspiron 2200 laptop, video resolution not much to shout about though) to play with...I'm back in business.

I've been thinking about the prevalence of "father" figures in Big O and their significance...but it was the absence of the "mother figures" that I found curious...notwithstanding Episode 25 we really don't hear much about them. Is this further proof of an entirely artificial intelligence behind the Paradigm City simulation?

Still no word on a Big O live action feature or hints of a Season 3 yet? I seem to be stuck on just speculating on Battlestar Galactica on the Sci Fi Network and praying for Katie Couric's emergence as the new anchor for CBS Evening News (I'm tired of male anchors dishing the news. We need some eye candy to look at for a change. LOL!) Big Grin

Well, fatherly figures being prevalent and emphasized isn't something totally unusual. Paradigm itself is set as a male dominated, busy city, 1920's-30's era type world. Things aren't terribly high-tech in Paradigm City except for the "lost" technology (not counting megadeuses) which the people only remember how to maintain, not how to improve upon. Paradigm City is run by a head-honcho man who has a god-complex and tries to do things to get out of his father's shadow. In a very Casablanca-ish way, Big O is written to revolve around the men having to solve problems, with only occasional help from women. Caring is passed down (usually) from "Father to daughter" (Roger to Dorothy, Roger to Mrs. Fitzgerald) or "Father to son" (G. Rosewater to Alex, Roger to Dastun). However, with that said, Big O is not devoid of examples of maternal care (Dorothy to Pero, Angel to Dorothy (Act22), Dorothy to Little Girl (Act16)). But now to get to what you concluded...I believe strongly that the lack of "mother figures" in Big O has nothing to do at all with the possibility that Paradigm City is "imaginary" or a simulation. Paradigm City could very well be a simulation (though that has the potential to make the series suck), but I sincerely doubt there's any connection between that theory and the evident lack of 'motherly figures'. (It was a good observation though Wink )
