What is better DS or PSP

Ha, I didn't play for 14 months and when I returned to my town, weeds had taken over. Not to mention all the cockroaches in my house...

But after much stomping and a lucky encounted with Wisp the ghost at about 1 AM, the roaches and weeds were gone and now my town is looking mighty decent. Yeah, I've become addicted once again. I should go play right now actually. Screw calculus homework.

But ah! Nook's store is closed. I'm too late....

Oh yeah, I picked DS over PSP. I just think its obvious. PSP is hip, and it looks cool, and it will make others jealous of you, but it's really not that great.

And to V.F.D., you're going to have a tough time around here if you keep making so many threads in which you loudly decry Nintendo. This isn't that kind of board. We'd like to keep the mindless fanboy rants to a minimum.
Hobodoken 12-14-2005 11:03 PM
DS all the way mon.

The stylus is neat, and it functions as an alarm when I don't feel like changing the ones to wake me up.

I will admit my fanboyism, seeing as I've yet to get a non-Nintendo major console... but I got into handhelds right as Game Gear was dying, so Gameboy was the only choice, and Link's Awakening got me hooked on Zelda like crack. I need it, or else I get the shakes.

Well either way, my premonition was correct. We have a Sony fanboy asking this question simply to smite at those who appreciate Nintendo products (and/or Nintendo itself). So, you know, it just happens that threads like this is always started by someone who is sided on one console/handheld or the other. Just to future reference with everyone who hasn't realized this already. Wink

Dr. Zager and his assistant Evans have unequivocally proven the world will end in the year 7510, the reason being that if gods coming he ought to make it by then. I'm telling you the math on this one checks out.

I'm not sure if its a good or bad thing when nobody gets that one.

I really...the necessity of one of these systems completely escapes me. I'm never really gone long enough to need one, aside from class...and somehow I doubt playing Metal Gear Acid during one of those will really help my general situation. Also I've never understood the wireless capability..if you're using one of these in a conveyance, wouldn't that mess with it? Whats the range on them anyway? I guess this is kind of a "What can these do that my PS2 cant" question, and you can substitute any gaming platform from an x-box to a card table in this because thats not my point.

Aside from specific games only being offered for the psp/ds, I mean.

Well i don't really get hand helds, but if i did i would get the psp. But still, both the DS and PSP are REALLY expensive...
Mugiwara Luffy 12-15-2005 11:24 AM
You can say the DS is just "cheap plaastic" but Nintendo has a reputation for making hardware that can go to hell and back and sitll work. I'm sure the same can't be said for PSP.

The PSP would be a better handheld if its battery lasted longer. Or maybe if it weren't so damn ambitious. It really tries to combine too many gadgets into one. Who is going to watch movies while on the go anyway? Or play a miniaturized version of a console game? To me, THAT seems gimmicky.

I believe the DS is around $120 these days which isn't too huge of a dent to the wallet. Overall it's better for gaming. The battery lasts longer so it's a better choice for road trips but you can also whip it out for five or ten minutes of gameplay if you're stuck on the bus or something. Games like WarioWare don't take a huge time investment. And personally, it's just more fun.

Someone mentioned the problem of Wi-Fi being available only in stationary locations, thus defeating the whole point of gaming on the go. Once I get my DS, I plan on using the Wi-Fi feature strictly at home. It would be great if you could go online anywhere, but unfortunately that technology is just not there yet. Still, it is a big advancement, especially for Nintendo.

Rumble pack, analog stick, and shoulder buttons.

I'd hardly call those gimmicks (except for the rumble pack I guess, so I give that to you). I'm not down playing what Nintendo makes, because those things did set a standard for most system, but really, do you seriously see all game consoles in a few years having touch screens installed?

I have to go with PSP here with the gaming, and multimedia functions. I found the games from DS a cheap port from the gamecube and not fun at all... there's a point where Mario games ported or some what orginal games loose it's luster after awhile. not many people like to play Mario all the time, Nintnedo is not that great about porting M-rated games or coming up with great M-rated game but there's exceptions very, very, very few. anyway, sorry for the DS bashing. I find the PSP enjoyable with the games and the music and UMD fuction that PSP has implomented successfully in a great looking hand held.

I'm more of a stay-at-home fellow, so handhelds are quite a bit of
turn-off....

But if I had to choose, I would likely go with the Nintendo device.
I grew up on red mushrooms and green pipes.

And I still don't have a GBA, slowpoke me.

Still, I know i'm (as well as everyone else) not suposed to oppose nintendo but i still think nintendo is more of kiddy console. I know i'm gonna have to face the fearful wrath of the people who love nintendo but your are not a giant nintendo, you are people, don't take it personally.

Actually, it's pretty damn great. Good games for it are Lumines, Mercury, SOCOM game, GTA, and PoPoLo Crois. It might not have a better game selection, but in terms of construction and graphics, it's superior. DS is really more fun, and has some great games, but that's not to say it's without it's share of terrible nicktoons games.

Were they RF? Most, if not all, pre-WaveBird wireless controllers were IR and sucked because you had to point the thing straight at the receiver like a TV remote.

Not sure, but they still had them. My point was that wireless controllers weren't a concept that Nintendo is solely responsible for.

Probably. I just remember Nintendo being able to perfect the wireless controller over a distance of 30 feet. Although I've tried the PS2 Logitech Wireless and it's worked wonders.

We are Nintendo.

Maybe people shouldn't be dropping their goddamn $100+ stuff.

Ever been on a road trip? Sometimes it's nice to watch a movie while doing so, which is the whole reason portable DVD players were invented. Seeing as how I'm in the passenger seat of a car 2 hours every day, it works for me. And maybe I'm missing something, but uh... Mario 64 DS? Animal Crossing? Rayman? Mario Kart? Ring any bells? Hopefully they do, because they're all very similar, if not almost exactly the same, as games that have been on N64 and Gamecube. Granted I enjoyed Mario 64 DS and I want to get Animal Corssing pretty bad, but when you have the choice of a current gen game (GTA) and a game from about 5 years ago that wasn't even advanced (or fun, IMO) for its time (Rayman 2), are you really going to chose the latter?

Lets say one day your playing at school, and I just happen to trip and knock that overpriced piece of glass out of your hands. Have fun playing with shards.

Quite frankly my dear, I'ld rather play Castlevania or Metroid. Oh noes! Zaphod is teh outdated!

It still goes without saying that Sega Nomad is the greatest handheld system of all time. You cannot argue against that. IT PLAYS EVERY SEGA GENESIS GAME EVER MADE ('cept for Sega Channel). YOU CAN'T LOSE!

Shaq Fu was meant to be played on the go.
