Request for advice in buying RahXephon

To start with, it looks like getting the Limited Edition (with series box) of the movie is important, because of the 54-page (or 52-page) art booklet (which I'm sure can't be transcribed and posted online). But I notice that the Complete Collection box was actually released later. Does it have any specific advantage, other than being thin and cheap?

It looks bad to have an almost-empty box on a shelf; so once I have that, I'm sort of expected to get the individual discs of the series, as opposed to the thin-pack box. But according to animenewsnetwork.com, the best new price is $126 for the 7 volumes and $60 for the boxed set.

So, does the art booklet justify buying the series used? I assume that's usually bad for a show, since it doesn't help increase sales figures, or get money to the creators. But maybe RahX is already popular/successful enough that I shouldn't care about that. Unlike Big O, which does in fact seem to have died due to lack of interest.

If I do buy it used, are there good places on the Internet to do so, where I can be sure it's not bootleg? Or is that not even an issue for the individual volumes - do bootleggers invariably cram 8-13 episodes onto each DVD?

Basically, if buying used online is impractical, then I want to get to my local Gamestop as soon as possible before their used copies are taken.

I guess I'll get the version of Volume 1 that comes with series box and shirt, since it's only $3 more under ADV's online sale. But I don't actually have a use for either. I'd have to hide the box in a closet where it'd get dusty/cobwebby, and keep the shirt at the bottom of my stack with the other ones I don't wear.

Does the movie really come with 67 minutes of special features? I'm guessing no, because I can only find a couple of pages that even mention it. Still, I wonder where they got the idea.

"Extras: None." ~AnimeOnDVD.com

So, if anyone can add any information to that, thanks; otherwise I guess I'll assume the answers are no, yes, no, no, and no.

Rightstuf usually has some pretty good prices and amazon as well. as for the rest I can't really say as I never bought it (never struck my fancy).

Not Amazon, in this case. $40 for the limited edition of the movie, $27 for each volume of the series.

I don't remember much from the movie, but I wouldn't bend over backwards to try to get it. Just rent it if you're really interested. I don't think it really included any special features.

There are a few extra scenes and a few differences in the plot. But most of the movie is simply smooshed clips from the original TV series - at an ADD pace.

And the booklet doesn't have much different than the RahXephon Bible (book) you can buy - which his much bigger, has original artwork, and more info. (It's in English. ADV might still be selling it through their website.)

Yeah, but it's a sale. If I passed it up now, then decided later that I was curious about the booklet, I'd end up paying like $30 more.

(Unless, eBay maybe? How often does it show up there? I never tried looking.)

I know I'm being a total sucker for the most rudimentary marketing-committee tactics, but this is what I feel like buying.

I'm thinking I'll also get Noir AniMini #1 while the sale is on. That'll cost $2, which is probably less than it'd cost me to rent the first disc from Netflix (not that I'm confusing the two).

[Update: Purchase made. Still wondering whether to go to Gamestop, though.]

Hey, go for it. You can't really go wrong with the great deals ADV's been having lately. The best prices I've seen ever.
