Dorothy's Appearance, Act 26

Yeah, I'd still prefer Season 1's animation. It's more simple and better fitted for the show and the show's characters.

DorothyFan1, thanks for the clear on the whole 'Big O Season 3 in 3D' fiacso. I mean, we all want a Season 3, but in 3D?

Man, I rather see 50 Cent try and pull off a movie...
(laughing hysterically)
Peace.

First of all, thanks for bringing this up ACT. Our dear Dorothy doesn't look any more human at the end of act 26 than anywhere else in the series. I have to disagree with you on one point, however. You said "the animators use about four different hair colors dependingon lighting." I believe there is a simpler explanation, and one riddled with complications, to Dorothy's constantly changing haircolor namely that the animatiors are on crack. Check out Daemon Seed sometime. Her hair is red. Full on, unabashed crimson red. That's not lighting. That's some guy in a room in Tokyo chewing on his eraser and saying "Alarm clock red is a good color." Seriously. Somebody's on something.

A note for all; it's not just Dorothy who's drawn inconsistantly throughout the series. Our most prominent characters Beck, Angel, and Roger are never really drawn the same way twice except for in two-parters.

Even if styles varied our characters in season one always looked human, Dorothy is no exception here. Season two however had a problem of occasionally getting people boxy. Appropriately, the characters aren't even consistantly inconsistantly badly drawn. For example Roger is looking very nice in act 18 but sadly Dorothy is at her worst. She looks like an android. With a pinched waist and sickly arms she looks every bit the lifeless doll people accuse her of being.

We have the reverse going on in act 21, Dorothy looks beautiful; curvy and alive while Roger looks like a stack of boxes. This is particularly obvious (and distracting) when Roger picks her up.

Big O has a definite (or had ::sniffsniff:: ) art direction problem. But it's a small quibble. And if cruddy art is what we have to put up with to have such a brilliant and enjoyable show then so be it. I'm not going to complain.

I have to get involved in this thread...it's so interesting to see the differences between the Dorothys drawn from Season 1 to Season 2. My verdict is in...Season 1 Dorothy was drawn with more detail and complexity. She looked more beautiful and haunting in her Season 1 incarnation than in Season 2. I can say this with some certainty because I myself am a freelance artist and I can just tell the difference. Now imagine how the first image shown from the left...the one where Dorothy was kidnapped had looked had it been done in Season 1's style! It would have been breathtaking! BTW, that image of Dorothy on the left is the most attractive one of the three. And her hair color is red! Really red!

I have a theory about this...and I hope somebody can disprove this...I think the reason Dorothy from Season 2 wasn't drawn with as much detail is because the production designers wanted to cut corners on costs and chose the "splashy" and "Mickey Mouse" style because it was cheaper to produce. If that's the case...I would like to know why this was done in order for us to even have a Season 2.

Because I've heard RUMORS that IF a Season 3 is going to be shown...it will be entirely 3D which from what I've heard is cuttng corners even more in terms of production costs because then the artists won't have to be painstakingly rendering movment. It's done entirely by computer. If this is true...then a Season 3 will be DREADFUL...because the look and feel will be completely RUINED. BTW...my avatar of Dorothy is CLEARLY from Season 1 in case you have to ask. The look is SO Season 1.

I don't know if what I've heard about a 3D of Big O is true...but I've read comments to that nature...that if they go for a Season 3 it'll be 3D. Which will STINK big time. Imagine if you will...a 3D Dorothy Waynewright. I can't think about it. Her mystique would be lost forever if they move to a 3D model for a THEORETICAL Season 3.

I agree on the 3D thing, but if they did it in a Final Fantasy film style, it could work. To see some of the Final Fantasy: Advent Children screen shots then stick your noses into Google image search, or be lazy and click here: http://images.google.com/images?sourceid...ren&sa=N&tab=wi

Admittedly though this would take ALOT of money; and thus wouldn't cut any corners.

I'd never picked up on the 'Stack of boxes' thing before, but now I look at it I can see, I think the reason I never noticed was because I was enjoying that moment too much :*

I did pick up on Dorothy's 'skinyness' And was rarther confused 'cos I didn't remember her being like that, when later on in Act 21, I know if I was Roger I would definately fallen for her, at this point Dorothy looks beautiful; despite the bullet damage. The only real thing that irritates me is that almost EVERY TIME we see a face on view of Roger it looks like he's had his jaw broken at some point.
