I finally saw the first dvd of Samurai Champloo yesterday, and despite not liking hip-hop music in genral i liked the music in this.

Especclly the opening, i think this is right (well animelyrics has it down as this)

some days, some nights
some live, some die
in the way of the samurai

Just great!

Also loved how theres "scratching" on certain scene changes Big Grin

that's pretty much my main reason for not liking SC, that and the fact that it's a pretty average show. The opening made me go listen to so Dillinger's Escape Plan. just me though.

I have the first 5 DvDs of SC. While I like the show, It leaves me wanting somthing more than was delivered. The music was pritty darn good at parts though.

I feel the same way dude. I feel like it could've had more episodes with more amazing fighting. I also thought it could've went more into Mugen and Jin's past.

There are still two more DVD volumes, so don't give up on it yet. If you want more action, you definitely won't be disappointed by the last 3 episodes.

its certainly seems different mainy cuz its just beats and not really a lot of lyrics. The music reminds me a lot of undergrond hip hop, has that same vibe to it, bitchin good stuff

When you say you hate hip-hop, do you mean just the "bitches and hos" kind of gansta rap or hip-hop in general? I would think that most young people no matter what their skin tone generally enjoy most hip-hop grooves except for the really extreme hard stuff.

Anyway, I do like the take on classic hip-hop that the Japanese musicians have presented for the Samurai Champloo soundtrack.

Of course, "battlecry", "vagrancy" and "shiki no uta" are absolutely slammin' tracks, but I have other favorites on the disc too.

I have the "Katana" CD loaded in my Beetle's CD changer and when I'm cruising around town I love to play tracks 7 - 17 straight through because it's such a great mix. My current favorite track is No. 9 - "You." Both "You" and "Shiki No Uta" are songs that sound like anything that current hip hop female MCs are doing in America. I could easily hear Mary J. Blige or Eve doing songs like these.

In short, I find it a testament to the creative power of the world's young people that Asian musicians could take on an African-American art form and infuse it with a cultural heritage all their own.
