Good to see that your felling better about the Mavericks but I still got the Spurs to win the series. Just seems like it will take longer now, maybe in seven games. And yeah, putting Devin Harris into the lineup was ingenious by Avery Johnson.

Well, while I won't rule out the Spurs' talent, it seems very unlikely that they would be able to come back and win the series that Dallas took a command over last night with a thrilling victory. I really think that was the best chance San Antonio had to win. All of their key players had amazing games, with both Parker and Duncan in the 30's, and Ginobli in the 20's. They still couldn't win it though, and I think that says a lot about the Mavs. Since they've acquired Timmy, the Spurs are 0-5 when they're in a whole this deep in the playoffs. The only thing that the Mavs can do right now is go for the jugular, and finish the Spurs off. I better not see them playing passively in game 5, or I'll freak out.

Oh and how about Jet Terry, exploding for 32 points? I didn't know he had that performance in him.

And I assume you have some thoughts on what Rasheed said about Cleveland, Nine?

Plainly put, Jason Terry was shooting the ball out of his mind last night. I didn't see the game last night, the whole superstitous thing and wanting the Spurs to win and all, but still San Antonio is in trouble.

Rasheed and Cleveland? The good news, he was wrong. Oh so wrong, finally and even better news, he got injured in the process, hurting Detroit which I'm all for. I'm really surprised that the Cavs made it an actual series, didn't see that coming at all. But according to Rasheed, "ain't no damn way in hell they winning the series". Ah, Rasheed, how you entertain me.

Also, the Nets and Heat play tonight as do the Clippers and Suns, the Knicks might buy out Larry Brown's contract and get rid of him (one step in fixing that hellhole of a mess up there) and David Stern proposed a new seeding system for next year, saying that the top four seeds would be granted to the three division leaders and then the team with the best record without the division title. Then those four are seeded by record. For example, if this were to happen now, the West seeding would look like this;

1. San Antonio(DL), 2. Dallas, 3. Phoenix(DL), 4. Denver(DL), 5. Memphis, 6. LA Clippers, 7. Dallas, 8. Sacramento

Kind of what I mentioned before a couple of posts back but that's a much better seeding. Or at least its something like that, I'm not entirely sure myself although I do think its something like this. You know the NBA, trying to make things confusing.
Peace.

If by one step in fixing that hellhole of a mess you mean making it a deeper hellhole, then yes, you are correct.

Actually FP, I have to agree with you. Although there are reports saying that he might head out West to Cali to the Kings or even the Warriors, the Knicks have problems. Major problems.

And having Isiah Thomas come down to be head coach is not really the best solution, although truth be told, there's no way in hell in can do worse than what Brown did last year. The starting lineups, the feuds in the media, Jerome James, I can go on and on.

There is a bright spot (seriously, I guess) that the Knicks have pretty damn good rookies in Nate 'The Slam Dunk Thief' Robinson, Channing Frye and David Lee. But then again when you trade for Steve Francis and Jalen Rose, when you already have Stephon Marbury (seriously, that made and still makes absolutely no possible sense at all) and declare that you're going hard after Kenyon Martin and Darius Miles, you would normally tend to forget that there is a bright spot.

Hell, you tend to forget that there's a spot at all.
Peace.

Hey, they have Quentin Richardson, too, and by no means is he a bad player. Plus, they might be able to pick up someone good in this years draft, and build a better team. They just need a good coach, one who doesn't fight with the players.

Except they don't have a draft pick (/exaggeration). You know, the whole unprotected #1 going to Chicago in the Curry trade.

I said that trade was a bad one back when it was made. Nothing has changed over the last year to change my mind about that.

The Knicks have a good coach. Brown has a proven track record. Players like Marbury need to buy into its system, else it's not going to work. I don't care if you're the best coach in the world, if your players don't listen to you, then you're going to have problems. The Knicks also have way too many guards, and not nearly enough size, but that's another issue entirely.

And that's not to say Brown is absolved of all the blame. He isn't. But to pretend the players shouldn't be accountable for failing to do their job--allow themselves to be coached--is despicable. And Brown is a better coach than Isaiah, plain and simple.

Personally? I'd give Brown the keys to the car, let him be in charge of all personnel decisions. It worked in Philadelphia.

Expect Quentin Richardson ain't in Phoenix anymore and he ain't got Brandy with him either. He physically disappeared this season, going from 14 ppg to basically 6.5.

Yeah, the trade was down right idiotic. Knowing that Eddy Curry's drama with his heart condition and all, and giving away a draft pick that they really, REALLY need now. But usually I would say 'at least they got rid of Tim Thomas'. But then, look at what he's doing in Phoenix.

I was reading something on SLAMonline during the All-Star Weekend and it was during the Celebrity All-Star Game, the event where celebrities play against each other and are coached by celebrities as well. With one of the team being coached by Eva Longaria and Stephen A. Smith, one of the writers said that 'you know, I actually think with the way the Knicks are going this year, that the Eva/Screaming A. Smith team would actually do a much better job than Isiah and Larry Brown are at this point."

I couldn't agree more. Look, the Knicks got problems. Huge as their payroll problems. Everyone is basically undersized, except for Stephon Marbury. When you have Malik Rose, Maurice Taylor, and Jerome James as you're backup bigs (or if you have those three in the first place period), then you know something is a miss. Most other players are basically scared of Larry Brown and his system, but mostly Larry Brown. Nate "I Screwed Andre" Robinson has flashes at times, but most times he has no idea what he's doing out there because he's afraid of what LB is going to do to him. Same with Steve Francis, who at times, would just stand in the corner and watch the game. And why the hell is he not starting anyway. If they play Washington, then he might (If you get LB's starting lineups, which is just incredible, then you'd get the joke). Seriously, the only decent player that brought it everynight and that everybody wanted was Channing Frye... until he got injured. That and Anfernee Hardaway's contract. Speaking of that, there are faint rumors that Allan Houston maybe coming back.

And to make things even more dishearting, the players are all saying that Eddy Curry is the best player and where he goes, they go. They're talking about him like he's Shaq or something. Normally, I'd laugh but that would be an insult to Shaq but that means I'm acknowledging the fact that someone even had the notion to compare the two.

Anyway, in other news, PHX beat LAC in a helluva game to lead the series 3-2. How about Raja Bell's shot. You watchin', Kobe? Also, Miami beat New Jersey to clinch the series and basically get a week off. That's good for Mr. Big and DAL/SAS and CLE/DET play tonight.

Also, anybody watch the Yankees/Rangers game. Damn, coming back from nine runs down. Really nice game all around, except for ESPN continously calling the New York Yankees the 'Bronx Bombers'. That maybe a nickname (like the Knicks as in Knickerbockers) but knowing those punks at ESPN, they probably up to something.

And its something pretty damn stupid.

Also, that pitcher from the Astros must be getting annoyed with Barry Bonds to because he aimed at him like around four times. Nice, tood bad they got blown out though. But still, funny to see Bonds getting nailed like that.
Peace.

Yeah, that's just incredibly sad. Curry...was out of shape all season long, cannot jump, cannot rebound, cannot block shots, and can only score for a quarter or so.

...poor Knicks. They're going to be complete crap at least through the end of the decade, and that's presuming they make no roster moves and just let these damned contracts elapse.

I was really disappointed; I thought this series was going to go the distance, and I really thought the Nets had it in them to take down Miami. Granted, that was before Robinson was suspended (a huge blow to the Nets) and before Jefferson tweaked his ankle (and I don't care what he says, I'm not entirely convinced it was totally healed). Better luck next year; if Kristic improves at the same rate he has this year, and Kidd doesn't slow down, the Nets are going to be a pretty dangerous team next year. Of course it would be nice to have another inside presense, but...

Fantastic game. I only had three problems: first, Chacon having no control and digging that hole; second, Proctor's arm starting to fall off through overuse (he lost a few mph on his fastball); third, Rivera not being as sharp as he could have been.

But considering the Yankees were down three of their four sluggers, being able to come back from 9 down--even against a mediocre pitching staff like Texas has--is unbelievable. This only convinces me that what I was saying earlier in the week--that the Yankees have enough offense even with Matsui and Sheffield out to win games--was absolutely correct.

Springer is my hero. It's just too bad he didn't drill Bonds hard enough to take him out for the rest of the season.

Pujols better not let us down. I'm counting on him to at least give some respectability back to the NL single-season Home Run record.
Nine Kuze 05-17-2006 04:11 PM
On Eddy Curry's rebounding, I think he averaged like 6.5 rebounds a game.. so for a 7'0" center that is supposedly 'the best player on the team' that's really pathetic.

Yeah, FP, I thought the Nets/Heat series would go at least six or possibly even seven games. And last night, the Nets had a damn good chance to win but Dwyane Wade and his stockings got in the way. Nenad Krstic's improvement this year was pretty incredible, and Richard Jefferson improve as much as well. Jason Kidd is still one of the top pgs in the game and when will Vince Carter learn that he can't shoot to basically save his own life? Yeah, I was completely blindsighted by Clifford Robinson's suspension (he picked now to do something like that? During the playoffs? You'd expect that from Kwame Brown, not a 17 year old veteran. And besides, if he was going to abuse drugs for basketball, I'd think when he was on Golden State would have been the most appropriate time.)

As far as the inside presence goes, that's right on the money. Something, hell anything, as to be done if Jason Collins is your starting big. There's also this article talking about if the Nets should clean house.

Who would have thought that the Cavaliers would pull two wins out of you know where to tie the series against Detroit? I don't like Cleveland all that much but you have to give them credit for that.

My friend and I have been going over this for a while now (and when I mean a while, I mean since February in heated discussions) and I'd like to ask this question: If you were the GM's of IND, MIN, and PHI, would you trade Jermaine O'Neal, Kevin Garnett, and Allen Iverson?
Peace.

Damn, I really wanted New Jeresy to win that series. I love them as a team, their bench just didn't perform at all in that series. And that's probably an understatement. The Big 3 can't carry the load against Shaq and D.Wade. Walker finally got into his game this series, as well.

And don't knock Kobe, he's one of my favorites Wink Did you notice Jack Nicholson was at the Clippers-Suns game? Kind of funny if you think about it. And tonight, Dallas better perform.

Man, I almost care about the Texas Rangers. Except for the fact that I gave up on their chances of winning a World Series long ago.
Nine Kuze 05-17-2006 04:35 PM
I'm not knocking Kobe. I really like him as a player but most of the times, he takes it too far when he even doesn't have to. And yeah, I saw JJ Gittes there. Very interesting, I thought he was with the Lakers!

As far as that game goes, the BEST moment of the night was when Sam Cassell was walking the ball up the court, with the cockest smile on his face like a kid in a candy store with all the money in the world... but then he gets called for the eight second violations. I love Sam.I.Am and everything but that was priceless.

Also, the Larry Brown/Knicks thing is getting very dramatic, just the way Larry likes 'em. Apparently, James Dolan (the big moron who owns MSG) is saying that the rumors of buying out Larry Brown's contract are false but on the flip side, there's reports saying that Larry Brown is telling his friends that he'll probably be fired soon and that he hasn't talked to any official (if you can call them that) of the Knicks' organization for three weeks. And, it still looks like Isiah Thomas is the leading candidate to become the next coach of the Knicks. Well, lets just say that Isiah the coach is a helluva lot better than Isiah the GM. Isiah likes to give his point guards free reigns, which would be good for Starbury, Francis, Robinson, and other point guards that they have and will have.

My friend and I have come to a hypothesis to explain the Knicks trades: Isiah Thomas plays a lot of X-Box. Think about it, when you play an NBA game during the Franchise mode, its not that hard to convince other teams to do trades that you want to do. So Isiah probably plays X-Box in his skybox at Madison Square Garden, does a trade like the one for Jalen Rose, Eddy Durry, and Steve Francis, and figures if he can do it on the X-Box, why can't he do it in real life? If it works for NBA Live 2005, then it can surely work in real life with a real and tangable basketball system and a real payroll...

Surely!

EDIT: I just read this; Isiah Thomas' grand plan! Yes, I guess we have to assume that he has a plan for the Knicks.
Peace.

And look who's in the Eastern Conference Finals! Big surprise, it's a cinderella story out of Detroit! Oh wait, maybe I was getting confused there. Detroit comes back to the Eastern Conference finals again, and Miami is coming too! And how about those Mavericks? They've shown they can beat a championship caliber team, and maybe now they'll get the respect they've deserved all season.

Eastern Conference Finals:

1. Detroit Pistons vs. 2. Miami Heat

My Prediction: Pistons in 6.

Why: If the Detroit defense can deny penetration in the lane like they did to LeBron in game 7, then D.Wade doesn't have much of a chance either. I expect to see his numbers drop significantly as he will probably be forced into outside jump shots. Shaq is always a factor, but I suspect Ben Wallace will be able to work him over better than Collins did for the Nets.

Western Conference Finals:

2. Phoenix Suns vs. 4. Dallas Mavericks

My Prediction: Mavs in 6.

Why: As we can see from the San Antonio series, the Mavs can ratchet up their game to full speed. While they may not be able to run with the Suns all 48 minutes, they won't lose that many players as a result of the game pace. The Mavs should be able to use their defense to clamp down on the Suns as well. And since Phoenix defense practically doesn't exist, I predict Dirk to have big games. That and the home court advantage for the Mavs seems to put a lot in their favor.
Nine Kuze 05-23-2006 04:50 PM
ZOMFG! The Dallas Mavericks actually defeated the San Antonio Spurs!!1!!

Well, 088nd, you called it buddy. The Dallas Mavericks had too much offensive power, speed, and youth for the 'former' defending World Champs. Devin Harris and Jason Terry were running wild, enough said.

My thing is, is that I'm a pretty big fan of Dallas (actually, I'm a pretty big fan of all three of the Texas teams, Houston's 1st in this hustla's heart. SAS and DAL are evenly tied) and its great to finally see Dirk Nowitzki become the leader that we all knew he could be in 2003 (don't get me started on Dirk and 2003). But the thing that worries me about Dallas is... Detroit. The way things look now, it will be Detroit and Dallas in the Finals (finally, a team that hasn't been to the Finals yet. Some fresh blood) and Detroit has a really HIGH chance to win again. And I'd rather have the Apocalypse occur than that happen.

In all retrospects, Dallas is still a soft team and Detroit is the best (aside from SAS) defensive team in the NBA. Billups is bigger, better and just as quick as Harris and Terry, Hamilton is pretty going to Rip them up with his speed and picks without the ball, Rasheed Wallace can actually defend Dirk quite well with his size, strength, and length, Prince and Howard is actually balanced out (that would be a very nice matchup), and Ben Wallace is better than Dallas' center. Period.

Although, Dallas is as deep as their owner's pockets (and his blog), Detroit can still matchup with them and I'm just worried that Detroit will win because they are the better team. But if San Antonio was the best chance to beat Detroit and Dallas beat them, then... Also, hopefully (but probably not) Miami would defeat Detroit but they don't have home court like last year, even if they did blow it then. But if Miami wins, then it will probably be Dallas in 6, at most seven.

And much love for Phoenix, but sorry, without STAT you guys can make a serious run at the title yet. Also, the whole no defense thing expect for Marion and Bell REALLY hurts.

Anyway, forget the Eastern Conference Finals that starts tonight. Tonight is for the Draft Lottery. Who will get the first pick? I hope its New York, becuase then it will go straight to Chi-Town via that Eddy Curry trade and NYK will have more things to look bad about. Pleased I'm just playing but I'll be watching out for that as well and hope that Minny gets a high pick (go, KG)

Again, congrats Dallas. And I should have known about San Antonio. They have never been able to win repeat champions. Damn, and when the Lakers made it look so damn easy.

EDIT: Dirk Nowitzki is now the man, even though he sings Hasselhoff at the free throw line...
quote:
Originally from SLAMonline.com
So, the Mavs were down three, but hey they're the Mavs and don't they just love jacking up bad threes? Apparently not. Dirk demanded the ball and changed the way he will be talked about forever. He went right at the Bowen collector with a spin, got to the hoop, made the layup and drew the foul. Just an awesome display of German engineering at its most deadly. He hit the free throw, tie game.

EDIT: For the soccer fans here in Paradigm City (do we have soccer fans?), the schedule for the 2006 World Cup has been released.

A quick message to my fellow Knicks fans: Tim Thomas and Keith Van Horn are facing each other in the Conference Finals. Ah... life.

Double posting, I know but that's the funniest case of irony regarding basketball I've heard in awhile.

EDIT: NO... NO... NO! Amare Stoudemire is changing his number for next year. First Kobe, and now Amare.

Not too much in the NBA World; Detroit beat Miami last night to tie up the series and PHX (without Raja) and DAL play again tonight.

The NBA Draft Lottery (you can do it yourself here!) was Tuesday and this is how things shook down:
1. Toronto Raptors
2. Chicago Bulls (via NYK)
3. Charlotte Bobcats
4. Portland Blazers
5. Atlanta Hawks
6. Minnesota Timberwolves
7. Boston Celtics
8. Houston Rockets
9. Golden St. Warriors
10. Seattle Sonics
11. Orlando Magic
12. NO/OKC Hornets
13. Philadelphia 76ers
14. Utah Jazz

Thank you, Bill Walton.
Peace.

What did I tell you, Nine? Dallas and Miami will be in the NBA Finals this year, after a great performance by Dallas to beat the lackluster Suns in game 6.

NBA Finals:

4. West - Dallas Mavericks vs. 2. East - Miami Heat

My prediction: Dallas wins the championship. The series is very similar to the San Antonio one, with a big guy that can get points like Tim Duncan in Shaq. The Mavs will throw Diop and Dampier at him to slow him down, and eat up the fouls. Dwyane Wade is more of a Ginobli type player, and Howard will probably see some time covering him. However, no one has an answer defensively for Nowitzki; add that to the homecourt for Dallas, and you have a winner.

I'm happy the Mavs took the series at Phoenix. A little revenge for what they did to us last year.

Yeah, you got me. But hell, don't me wrong. I'm so damn glad that the Heat beat the Pistons. Now I can rub in everyone's face up here in Detroit. But also, I'm glad that the NBA has finally some new teams in the Finals, and also two teams that aren't San Antonio, from LA, and mostly Detroit.

quote:

The Dallas/Phoenix series wasn't that surprising with Phoenix losing. They have like what, eight players able to play (and with Raja Bell getting injured didn't help at all), they played two straight seven game series, Amare wasn't there (like year, you know what's up), Phoenix is the second best team in the NBA (1st: Miami) that plays next to no sort of defense what so ever and lastly, Dallas is just better.

All in all, I don't know who is going to win and I'm really excited to this series. Once again, with no Spurs and Lakers (last time THAT happened was with the Jazz in '9Cool its not so predictable as usual. True, Dallas has homecourt, but both teams are very deep but Miami has experience and overall Dallas is better and has homecourt advantage. But still, I have no idea who's going to win and I'm lovin' that.

Also, I hope that sometime during the Finals, Antoine Walker and Keith Van Horn end up guarding each other because that's just criminally wrong that those two are both in the Finals. In the first place. Also, Erick Dampier vs. Alonzo Mourning!

Also, it sucks that Albert Pujols got injured after having the game in a chokehold for a while. And the Stanley Cup Finals start tonight, Edmonton vs. Carolina.
Peace.
