Star Wars has only ever been nominated in best sound or best effects category (I think..) so unless they're going to totally change that and try to award the entire series one retroactively...
Brokeback Mountains getting nominated. If you make a movie, and it's somehow controversial, that usually assures a nomination...also Ang Lee is involved.
Syriana...I really want to be nominated. I'm not sure what it would be for though.
King Kong...yeah. I think they just can't wait to give peter jackson another award.
edit: Unrelated note.
Anyone remember "The Omen"? Yeah, that movie that was perfectly fine when it was released back in the '70s?
Oh, yeah, they're remaking that now also.

I think in '77 Star Wars was nominated for Best Picture. I pretty sure it was along with Annie Hall and Diane Keaton and Woody Allen beat Mark Hamill and Alec Guinness for the award.
Yeah, I heard an update that 311 pictures were currently being nominated for the Best Picture awards by the Academy voters. Personally, my five are King Kong, Good Night and Good Luck, Syriana, Munich, and Crash.
When will the remake madness END??!?!
Peace.

There's a disaster epic coming out this year in April that's about the September 11th attacks in 2001. Here's a quote from it:
quote:
The clip opens on a black screen, with sounds of a normal takeoff -- the pilot and crew welcoming passengers, the roar of the engines. But then, over computerized imagery of the flightplan, we hear a commotion, and a woman's recorded voice: ''Honey, it's me. My flight has been hijacked.'' Then, the dialogue of passengers planning to overtake the terrorists, followed by a single, shaky shot of the plane's cabin (above). Needless to say, the trailer is very unsettling, and -- to me, at least -- somewhat reminiscent of the way Michael Moore handled the attacks in Fahrenheit 9/11: a black void as you hear the tragedy unfold.
Peace.

Surprised they didn't make one sooner. Sounds like it might be pretty good.

Really? I think that its a little way too soon to be a September 11th disaster movie epic. It was just around five years ago and it may be the same implications that Saving Private Ryan had for old WWII veterans.
There's this one article about updates of some sequels such as
'The Bourne Ultimatium, Jurassic Park 4, and Indiana Jones 4.
Peace.

Please tell me they're using the "genetically modified dinosaur strike force" script.
Yeah, theres this script for jurrassic park 4...involving dinosaurs that have been conditioned to carry out military operations, and apparently the opening sequence is some pterodactyl just butchering up a little league game. It just sounded so incredibly crazy that my interest was piqued. I'm sure its floating around on the internet in some form by now (unless..they're actually using it)
edit: There is/was some talk about Oliver Stone trying a 9/11 movie.

That's plenty of reason to go see it. Or maybe they fight the dinosaurs with giant snakes, with military equipement...lol sounds like a Sci-fi original.

Unfortunely my man, there was. Oh, God! There was. Thankfully the only thing I remember was that the only character worth mentioning was Dr. Grant and William H. Macy did something in there too, married to Tea Leoni if I remember correctly...
Anyway, here's a report on what Jackie Chan's being doing lately without Chris Tucker. (Damn, actually come to think of it, I wonder what Chris Tucker is doin'
without Chris Tucker

...)
quote:
Jackie Chan is sticking to making films in China, at least for the time being. The veteran action star's last movie, "New Police Story," was a big hit in his homeland. Variety reports that Chan has just begun shooting another Hong Kong feature, "Baby." The local production features Chan as a bad guy (a rarity for him) who steals a car without realizing a baby is in it. The action comedy should be out in Hong Kong next fall. There is no U.S. distributor yet, but if it's family-friendly, someone will jump on it. Chan will follow up "Baby" with "Rush Hour 3."
Peace.

It's terrible, but I love it because of that. It's honestly funny. It's a modern B-movie not meant to be a B-movie. Despite what people will tell you, those are rare.

Would you stop with the snakes, and the plane, and Samuel L. Jackson already?! You crazy kid

I know I did this for Disney earlier and now, here's one for Warner Bros. They released a preview of their schedule of movies that's going to be released this year.

I know this is probably gettin' annoying but I found a detailed article listing the most expected movies coming out this year. And I found this summary rather interesting... or is its distrubing? One of those words but check this out:
quote:
“Nacho Libre” (June 2), from “Napoleon Dynamite” director Jared Hess, stars Jack Black as a Mexican priest who doubles as a wrestler to raise cash for his orphanage.
Peace.
