Just curious...how do you explain Ridley Scott's 1979 sci fi film Alien making the cut for films to preserve for posterity? Check it out...it's on the list. If THAT film is on the list...there's no way Sin City won't get the nod eventually. Then there's....Titanic.

I think Scott's Alien got in because for a couple of reasons. It was indeed culturally significant (it was a huge box office and critical success), its pretty much revoltionized the science-fiction and horror genre and it was one of the first (if not,
the) to have a female in the starring lead of a action/sci-fi/horror film like this. Also, being nominated for several Oscars doesn't hurt as well.
So in those regards, I can see why Alien is in the National Film Registry. Looking at in those notions, Sin City isn't going and shouldn't be getting in there. And why randomly Titanic, what about it? In the terms of Titanic, yeah I can see it get in there when its up for contention this year.
Just for fun, here is the link to all the movies that are preserved in the National Film Registry.

Can I just say...I consider this movie sort of a horror classic. That little thing scared the hell out of me when I was a kid...I mean...its a shrunken purple alien that flies around in an interstellar fabrige egg, and periodically begins shrieking and is addicted to those awful reeces pieces. Thats not adorable, it's kind of weird and freaky.
(No I'm not saying "why is it deemed culturally significant", just seeking reassurance that someone somewhere found the alien in e.t. unnerving when they were 5 the way I did)
edit: On a much more troubling note, epic movie was apparently #1 at the box office. I know, I know, "you'll never go broke betting on the lowest common denominator", but hell this movie looked like it drilled below the lowest common denominator until it hit oil.

Yeah its great how every mention of this points out most of the main characters die, I mean theres nothing I love more than having movies I haven't seen yet but want to spoiled for me by an overflow of media stories!

You have to say it clearly, or else it'll spawn an army of undead and an evil clone grown from your right hand (which you will have to sever)

Yay, my Mistress is happy. Granted, the use of that smilie freaks me out but happy still the same.
- Since Katie Holmes (Thank Gopd) dropped out of her role as Rachel Dawes in The Dark Knight, they got a replacement...
who can actually act.
- More Speed Racer news.
May 9, 2008.
- The adapation of DC Comics Captain Marvel,
the kid who yells "SHAZAM!" and becomes and super hero, just got the screenwriter to pen the script.
- Here's a trailer of 300.
But wait, there's more:
| spoiler (highlight to read): |
| What the- Supposedly, there's a brief clip of director Zack Snyder's next project in the trailer... the adapation of the Alan Moore graphic novel, Watchmen |
Peace.

Woot, Dark Knight is going to be Katie Holmes-less!
And with Joker..so really, I don't see how this will fail. For me anyways.

Going on with the Watchmen gimmick that D and I have been rocking lately:
-
Watchmen News #1: Ron Perlman mentioning a lil' somethin'-somethin' about the Watchmen adapation.
-
Watchment News #2: Zack Synder wants around $150 million for Watchmen, Warner Bros. wants to keep it around $100 million. Paradox.
Peace.

That rug really tied the room together
Zack Snyder should have stuck to directing the day of the dead remake. I mean the dawn remake turned out so well, this...well I didn't really like the original day of the dead as much either so I'm skeptical about it anyway, especially now with some director I've never heard of involved.

Firstly, I would love to see a buffed up Burt Reynolds or Tom Selleck play the role. I can understand Perlman, since he can act though makeup well and...you know what the comedians deal is.
But this news is still awesome.
So awesome in fact the noise I made when I read this was an unintelligible squeal of joy.

I haven't actually read the watchmen, but I have seen like five minutes of magnum pi once, so I guess I agree?
