Much like "get rich or die trying", violence breaks out at a showing of "ATL"

quote:
Witnesses said the fight was sparked by the movie "ATL" which opened at the mall cinemas on Friday night. The movie deals with drug trafficking in a South Atlanta neighborhood setting.

"We knew the movie was coming out and we knew there might be some problems. We had additional crews and patrols in the area. Still it happened," said Sgt. Richard Murphy, Toledo Police Public Information Officer.

I'm not sure if I'd claim the movie was responsible. If terrible movies caused terrible behavior, then basically any theater showing a movie starring Ben Affleck would subsequently be destroyed in the ensuing riot.

For this and other reasons, I think there should be a mandatory background check and waiting period before a person can buy "jersey girl" or "gigli" on dvd.

True about the Ben Affleck thing, Sharpie. Although after I left the Fantastic Four movie, nothing happened... except for the fact that I'm no longer a FF fan anymore (damn you, Jessica Alba!!!)

Anyway, here's something interesting. News about the upcoming Simpsons Movie:

quote:
Originally by Comingsoon.net
This weekend, 20th Century Fox surprised moviegoers with the first teaser for The Simpsons Movie which played in front of Ice Age: The Meltdown on many screens. The studio has scheduled a July 27, 2007 release for the anticipated big screen adaptation.

The teaser aired during Sunday's episode of The Simpsons on Fox, and you can now watch the clip online in QuickTime format here!

In related news, Variety says that executive producer James L. Brooks and his co-conspirators are in the storyboarding stage following two years of script drafts and three covert cast readings.

"We've taken script security to the point of lunacy, though it helped that we wrote it in Aramaic," quipped Mike Scully, who wrote the script with creator Matt Groening, Brooks and series veterans Al Jean, Ian Maxtone-Graham, George Meyer, David Mirkin, Mike Reiss, Matt Selman, John Swartzwelder and Jon Vitti.

David Silverman, the "Simpsons" supervising animation director who co-helmed 2001's Monsters, Inc., is set as director.

Deals are done with show regulars Dan Castellaneta, Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright, Yeardley Smith, Hank Azaria, Harry Shearer, Pamela Hayden and Tress MacNeille.

"We've also set Albert Brooks, Minnie Driver and the real Erin Brockovich, so you should be able to deduce the plot just from that information," said Jean, who is running the show in its 17th season.

EDIT: There's supposedly going to be an 'Underdog' movie.

And here's a little bit of news about Sin City 2.
Peace.

Underdog as in the cartoon show? geez they will make movie of anything it seems. Also I hope ScI makes another SS Doomtrooper, that movie was so bad it was good.

It's going to suck. Right there, it's assured to suck.

This formula is never, ever conducive to anything remotely good. Or even bad enough to be funny. With the exception of who framed roger rabbit, I'm straining to think of one live-action/animation hybrid thats worked..on any level.

So...beyond the normal suck factor for those? Wow, I need to see this.

It was quite good. It's been a long while since I've seen it but..I remember it as being quite good at least.

It's great a must see. First off the thing looks like a purple Hulk and this is in the middle of the snow, awful accents on the Germans,French, and the one "tough guy" from new york was great. Funny thing is though, the Nazi's made the monster from some black guy (they put people in some tube thing and it turns them into the "Doom Troopers).

Well, thats because most of those(save WFRR) lack Bob Hoskins.

I have to agree with that. Except for Who Framed Roger Rabbit. I didn't see the whole thing but from what I did see, it wasn't too bad. Also, I used to watch Underdog all the time when I was a young'n but I just don't see a good plot and a decent screenplay coming out from using Underdog. I just don't see it all. It probably is going to suck hard, and yeah, Bob Hoskins is pretty damn sweet.

Anyway, I found this to be interesting; Steven Spielberg is teaming up with Fox (that's not the interesting part) to do a reality show called "On the Lot". Check it out.

quote:
Originally from Comingsoon.net via Fox
Aspiring director/filmmakers from across the country will vie for the opportunity of a lifetime when Mark Burnett, Steven Spielberg, DreamWorks Television and Fox join forces on the exciting new unscripted series On the Lot, which will air next season on Fox. The competition will air over two nights weekly, with an hour "Film Premiere" episode, followed the next night by a half-hour "Box Office" results show. Ultimately, one filmmaker will rise above the rest and will be rewarded with a studio development deal, On the Lot at DreamWorks.

"All through my career I've done what I can to discover new talent and give them a start," said Spielberg. "This opportunity with Mark Burnett, DreamWorks and Fox allows all of us to reach out directly to open a much wider door."

"When you have the opportunity to work with people like Mark Burnett and Steven Spielberg, artists who've redefined this business, you jump at the chance," said Peter Liguori, President of Entertainment for Fox. He added, "In this age of digital cameras, cell phones with cameras and the Internet - with hundreds of thousands of people creating their own movies at home every day - the concept of this series is completely relevant, tapping into a cultural phenomenon as it happens."

"Movie-making is completely relatable to the American public," added Mike Darnell, EVP Alternative Programming and Specials for Fox. "Everyone enjoys going to the movies, reading about the movies and learning about the movies. Most Americans consider themselves amateur film critics and this will give viewers the opportunity to create the next big filmmaker."

After a nationwide search, applicants will be winnowed to a group of 16 undiscovered talents. The finalists will be brought to Hollywood, where they will be divided into several teams and will begin the hopeful journey toward their "big break." As the competition begins, each team will produce a short film from that week's genre, running the gamut from comedies to thrillers, personal dramas to romance, sci-fi to horror. With one member selected as the team's director and other members helping produce, they'll have access to the best resources the industry has to offer. A pool of professional writers, cast and crew will be made available, and if the contestants are resourceful enough, they may even be able to land Hollywood celebrities to star in their films. With the clock ticking, however, and other teams working with the same genre, premise or unique challenge, they'll all need to match their vision with decisiveness, execution and flexibility.

Each week, after the teams have battled time frames, budgets and all the usual chaos that goes along with filmmaking, their films will be shown and critiqued in front of a live audience during the "Film Premiere" episode. Judges will include a high-ranking motion picture executive, a prominent film critic and a succession of well-respected guest judges, such as directors who are experts in the week's featured genre. But they'll also be subjected to perhaps the harshest judge of all... the public.

It will be Fox viewers whose votes ultimately determine which film should be left on the cutting-room floor. But, just as in Hollywood, where the director's work and vision have an enormous impact on the success or failure of a film, not all team members will pay the price. On the next night's "Box Office" results show, only the director of the losing feature will be sent home, leaving that team with fewer contestants to help produce the next week's film.

As the competition continues and directors are eliminated, eventually the remaining filmmakers will have to work individually, creating a new short film every week until only the most talented individual is anointed the winner, whisked away to the DreamWorks studio, met by Steven Spielberg and shown a new office... On the Lot.

Peace.

Yeah, more or less. Except this one sounds like it actually going to go somewhere.

You know on the topic of Ben Affleck, I have found out that I really, really, loathe him. He's just a pisspoor actor and it sucks even more that he has something that I want: an Oscar. Seriously, how much of that screenplay do you think Affleck really wrote? (Remember that Family Guy episode where all he did was smoke pot and fart as Damon did everything. Yeah, I'm thinking that really it home.) I was watching Good Will Hunting last night and I was really getting into it... then Matt Damon's bitch came on and starting to try and act. That man should never swear in movies. He's just not good at it, and I didn't think it was possible for someone to actually suck at swearing but hell, Mr. Jennifer Lopez er, Garner figured it out. God, what a sada** actor. How he gets work in the movie business is beyond me.

Okay, I'm going to stop there (I can go on all day).

Anyway, not much as been happening (nothing important anyway. Just Jennifer Aniston rumors. Fun). But I saw the commercial plug for "United 93" and even though I think its a little too early to be doing September 11th movies, some theaters are already pulling the trailers of some presentations. Also, 24 gets extended to three more seasons and there might even be a movie in the works.

And here's a new movie clip from X-Men 3: The Last Stand of Multiple Man with Magento and Mystique.
Peace.

What really STUNNED me, is he's been on real time with Bill Maher...and he actually sounds moderately informed on things. I missed the one episode he was on, but they brought up the "stand your ground" law in Florida. And apparently he was the only one who could actually explain what it actually did.

And usually at least one person on the panel is...I don't know...at least functionally intelligent. But apparently you had the guy from Gigli correcting people on the finer points of firearms law. If I'd seen this theres a large probability my head would have exploded, or I'd at least have been forced to ask if I'd fallen into some bizzare parallel universe.

Is this the same one that Oliver Stone is (was?) directing, or is this now an actual bandwagon.

Whats next, "Saudis on a plane"?

EDIT: Okay this is...less than exciting news.

Know how I've been trying my hardest to keep optimistic about Silent Hill? Something just shook that a bit.

Games to Film

So recently, I've been reading lots, and lots of fim force, and I found a thing of Silient hill. I was happy to hear that one of my favorite games was coming to the big screen. Then I realized. What if it sucks? What if it drifts away from what made the games good? Then, when I heard about who its being directed by, I threw away those thoughts, and started thinking what limbs to give away to watch the movie. (The movie theater I go to is expensive, but it will be worth it!)

And about a castlevania movie... I like castlevania as much as any other fan, but will the movie be as good? I mean, who would be dracula? Who could possibly be as good and cool as dracula is? I know, dracula has been played pretty good in other movies, but they were all diferent. Vanhellsing, dracula was sophisticated. Blade 3, a big mean killing machine. I seriously wanna know what you guys think about this. Who could be a good Dracula?

And finally... Halo...Halo... As much as I would love to have a halo movie, I fear it will bomb... big time. The games are so good because of the gameplay in my opinion. And movies don't have gameplay. So i'm afraid one of my favorite FPS will reciev head shots in the theater.... and by head shot, I mean be majorly owned.

PS: All your base are belong to us.

Sorry.. Had to do that.

--Jesse

"Well Jesse, I'm pretty much in agreement with you. I'm looking forward to Silent Hill and think Gans is the right man to direct it. I got a good impression from visiting the set and the early footage I've seen looks good. On the other hand, Screen Gems recently cancelled the junket claiming that the cast and director were unavailable. They've also cancelled all early screenings of the film. This is generally a pretty bad sign and an indication that people aren't liking the film. Fingers crossed that I'm wrong, I suppose.

As far as Castlevania and Halo, those are indeed very tricky. How do you prevent a generic vampire movie or a generic sci-fi war one? Chances are, you don't. Silent Hill probably has a more elaborate story that better lends itself to the screen than the prior two. You make a good point about the gameplay, which is the reason Castlevania and Halo are good much more so than the story.

As it stands, games keep getting picked up and produced for films. Almost none have been any good. On the other hand, most have made money so studios will continue to rest on the laurels of the familiar names rather than worrying about producing good content until that changes.

--Otto"

Again...they're now canning the pre-release screenings to critics? Usually this dosen't bode well...

I'm still waiting for (dark) comedies based on 9/11.

I still think he's a prick and a bad actor but yeah, that is shocking he knows anything aside from girls named Jennifer, let alone a firearms law in Florida.

quote:

Nah, this is the first one to hit. The one you're talking about should be around by summer time and it has Nicholas Cage in it and there not in a plane but in the World Trade Center while its collapsing as firefighters. I forget the co-star in it (I want to say Jamie Foxx for some reason) but that's the other 9/11 movie hit this year.

A good vampire, huh? I'm not that big on Castlevania so I don't know which kind of vampire the movie will call for, like it says in Sharpie's post, there have been quite a different number of Dracula's in the past. But I'm thinking that Ralph Fiennes can pull it off. Actually, I think he can do any role but at the moment (and I'll come up with more), that Fiennes will do fine in my book.

quote:

That's appaling yet I'm very interested in that department too at the same time.

Also, there's talk of the X-Men spinoffs being written and directed.

And this isn't really news but I was reading Empire magazine (I didn't really like it but it was that or homework) and there were talking about comic books being turned into movies and they mentioned a character that hasn't been adapted yet and one of my favorites: The Silver Surfer. And someone suggested Johnny Depp. Also, I thought this was weird but Frankie Muniz is going to take a break from acting Thumbs Up and become a professional race car driver. Yeah...
Peace.

If he is, he'll one, get another Oscar nomination and two, be cruified if he lets Kevin Costner near the film.

But as long something blows up, then I guess it'll be tolerable. Otherwise it might do strange things to the JD fangirls' minds. Well, stranger than what already exists, I mean.

He called me 'sonny'... Anyway, no, I was just saying that in a Empire Magazine, it was suggested that Johnny Depp play the Silver Surfer. Personally, I'd like him for the role but yeah, that might be strange for Depp and all his fangirls... even for him.

Actually, I was thinking that Steven Spielberg would produce the film, or maybe even direct. But then again who would play Galactus?

Actually, what would really be badass is that in the Fantastic Four sequel (I know, I know. They're bastards...), they should introduce the Silver Surfer and Galactus and have the subplot of Norrin Radd becoming the Surfer, leading the big man to Earth and turning on him to protect Earth with the Fantastic Four. That's sure as hell is a lot better than having the Puppet Master as the main villain, which he will be.
Peace.

Captain Marvel is pretty similar to Superman, except he's really a 12 year-old kid (or something around that figure) that yells the word "SHAZAM" and becomes Captain Marvel. And yeah, I don't know why comedy directors are being hired to do movies like this all of a sudden. Look at Tim Story (Barbershop) and the crap he pumped out which was the Fantastic Four.

Anyway, Wilmer Valderrama is going to be in a movie adaption of CHiPs... Sir Elton John is making an animated movie... And here's the summer movie preview from Fox.

Predicted on MAD Tv, better have Lion King caliber stuff, and the Omen movie better be a worthy remake.
