Well ladies and gentlemen, tonights the one hour series premire of Naruto on Toonami. After the episode airs you can discuss how the dub compares to the sub. if you fill the need to post spoilers be sure to use the spoiler tags. hope you all enjoy the series
nathjan 09-10-2005 07:43 PM
show starts in about 15 minutes.
dominusofdeath 09-10-2005 09:15 PM
I was right. Naruto does suck.
Sephiroth 09-10-2005 09:20 PM
Well, I have mixed feelings about Naruto. The dub was decent, better than One Piece, but not all that outstanding. I was glad to see it hadn't been edited to badly and the sexual content and violence with sharp objects was left in. On the sexaul content subject, the whole sexy-jutsu seemed really inappropriate for a CN show. Now, all that being said, I'm not much into the show as it stands. It could get better, but for right now it's a little dull and has some overused ideas in it. I definatly like One Piece better, but for an anime on the CN saturday night block, it made a pretty good addition. It's not great, but its not terrible either.

Best. Post. Ever.

I saw Naruto before, and I already hated it. So I didn't even bother watching the dub. Oh how, I have lost faith in you Toonami.
Big Money 09-10-2005 09:57 PM
Wow... That was... awful?

Now, when every twelve year old in the world freaks the Hell out about Naruto, I'm going to have to deny ever watching the sub...

...And I'm going to have to stop saying "cookie no jutsu!"
Wingnut 09-10-2005 10:10 PM
Huh? Why the haterism? Confused
Call me crazy, but it wasn't that bad. Besides, it's only the first 2 episodes. Many anime can royally suck after the first two episodes and totally rock later on.
Big Money 09-10-2005 10:17 PM
I'm going to sound like a total fanboy here, but the Japanese VAs used really were of higher quality.

And some of the pronunciation is fairly aggrivating and nonsensical. Gen-Neen? WTF if they're going to say Jounin right, with the "nin" part intact, it makes absolutely no sense to change THE SAME "nin" in Gennin.

But they kept the title "Hokage", which pleased me.

Naruto...allegedly the show that would "save Toonami". Well, Toonami as we knew it ended a long time ago, sadly--and Adult Swim, while getting decent shows, just doesn't have the style of classic Toonami. The Midnight Run should have continued instead of AS Action, which pokes fun at the anime instead of enhancing the experience.

That said, Naruto is a weird show. Its content would have never made it on the old Toonami, so I'm suprised how this made it to TV. I wouldn't be suprised if some public controversy of one sort or another emerges. Anyways, it has some level of potential to it for creative action entertainment--better than One Piece or Zatch Bell--but overall, it's just too off-beat and goofy. I'll give it a chance, but it definitely hasn't impressed me. I will say its themes will surely resonate with a large majority, so I think it'll be a hit. However, the comparisons to Full Metal Alchemist are not remotely true--and I'm not even a fan of FMA, just a casual watcher.

As it stands, Rah Xephon of G4TV is by far the best anime on TV right now.

I think Toonami just has a different mission statement now--as evidenced by the shows it's been getting and what it will get soon: Bo-Bo-Bo-Bo, Wulin Warriors (a puppet show!), etc. And IGPX seems to have fallen off from its original vision with the racing and CG. Toonami just doesn't seem as focused as it did during the strong times of approximately '98-'01, or even its last stand with great shows like G-Gundam and Zoids: CC/GF around '03.
I still hope Toonami will rise again...

Ya know, 99% of the time someone says that they are talking BS.

But hey, most people who download fansubs use any excuse as to continue the act so.....

Normally, whichever version you see first is going to be the one you prefer. It rarely ever changes. The only exception is if the dub is absolutely terrible.

I had the TV on while Naruto was being shown, but I wasn't really watching. The only thing I have to see is that Naruto's voice is annoying.

99% of people on the internet are lying assholes who feel so bad about themself they have to belittle a person just to make themself feel good.

But on the VA thing. ALot of American VA's aren't that good. But alot of Jap ones aren't that great either.
thebravest1 09-11-2005 01:17 PM
Honestly I thought it was hilarious with some of the VA's of the minor charicters. Like Alacard's VA played the Konohamaru's tutor. I personaly liked certain VA's of the dubed version while others stank on toast. Naruto -sucked, Sakura- great, Hokage - great, Iruka - OK, Mizuki- alright. I still prefer the jap. VA's but all in all I still really like the series. But hey thats my opinion and I really don't care if you guys agree with me or not.

Jesus, all he said was that he thought the Japanese cast was better. Not like he went on a super whiney rant or anything. It's so annoying you have to bash someone because they don't see eye to eye with you. I really wish someone would stop pissing in your cheerios.

You left out a rather important bit there Roll Eyes ... I know that most of the time when someone says that they're being an elitist snob, hence why I felt the need to add that extra bit in.
BabyGhia 09-12-2005 09:26 PM
I ended up catching this when it was on. I won't say that I really liked or hated it. If I catch it again, I'd watch it but I don't feel the need to sit down every Saturday at 9 to see it.

But, then again, I will agree that will some shows, you need to see more than just two of them to get a good idea of how the show is.

Umm.. i feel sorry for all the people that saw it dubbed becuase it just really dosen't do the anime JUSTICE *plays music* as a fan i must say that i just really didn't do a good job naruto's voice is horrible and just two mins. in i was appauled at how badly it was slaughtered.. and also to those of you that aren't to sure on if you like it or not it starts off slow like inu yasha then gets better when it progresses... this is jsut my opinion
The Big Finale 09-12-2005 11:50 PM
Eh, the voices didn't come across as all that horrible.

I thought Naruto was particularly well cast. The voice fit the character perfectly; grating and a total, utter annoyance. A better fit than what I've heard of the original Japanese VA (which isn't much, so stay off my back, people.)

Plus, Ebisu = awesome. That voice pick was certainly a shocker.
poptartchan 09-17-2005 09:33 AM
Well today will be my last day watching i'm just curious to see Sasuke and Kakashi-sensei's voices... i think this will be interesting
Green_Bird 09-17-2005 02:00 PM
I missed it last week...mainly because I wasn't here and CN on satlite is hard to find....I'll be watching tonight though, even if it is edited...
