Forgive me if this has been asked and/or affirmed somewhere else. I didnt find it.
*points at title*
I was looking about earlier and came across something odd.
Wiki entry for Steven Blum(Roger's VA)
That raised questions!
Of course I punched some terms in google and came up with this:
A Letter from David Lucas
That raised even further questions!
Anyone else know anything else about this?

*cough*
| spoiler (highlight to read): |
| yes, the are one in the same |
*cough*
Many VA's have union and non-union names, so they can work between the two.
Although, it's sorta silly when you've got profiles of the people with images, for both names, and then it's pointless, sorta.

Funny story relating to this....
A year ago, I went to a con where Steve Blum & Beau Billingsly (Jet of Bebop fame if anyone didn't know that) were panel guests. Whenever someone would ask a question about Cowboy Bebop the series (not the movie because Blum was credited as the VA for it while Lucas was credited as the VA for the series) he'd respond with something like, "I only worked on the movie. Another VA worked on the series."
Now, whenever someone would ask a question about the first season of Big O (keeping in mind that Lucas is credited for the first season, while Blum is credited for the second season), he'd always have an answer and would never deny working on it. He even talked about how it was a little difficult getting back into the series because of the long hiatus between seasons.
I really wanted to raise my hand and correct him by saying, "But Lucas worked on the first season of Big O

," however, I felt it was probably wise just to keep my mouth shut as no one else seemed to notice his little bobble.
But yes, as R.Smith said, they are one in the same.

I agree, they are the same person. I saw him make a similar mistake in a public appearance a while back, and I already thought they were the same even before that. Notice that the only "proof" that they are different people is that letter, and it sounds kind of forced.

I've always thought they where one in the same. Steve Blum has said that he doesn't want to be connected his David Lucas alias. Many LA VA's have many alias I might add.

Hmmm...one can't help but ask why have two names if everyone knows you are the same person, but as long as it keeps him happy...I'm cool.

He's become prolific enough that he doesn't have to scrounge for work in the industry (believe it or not, not everyone in voiceover makes tons of cash - you have to get as much work as possible so you can pay the rent until you get a 'lucky break' - it's the price to pay when you join a union). He's one of AS's stable of voiceover actors, so he'll have as much work as AS is willing to get anime.

The answer is in "David Lucas's" letter mentioned above. Steven Blum is a union voice actor, which means that any jobs he does have to be under union rules. If he's asked to voice a show that is a non-union project, he has to refuse as Steven Blum. That's when "David Lucas" does the work and gets the credit. In a sense, he's working both sides of the street.

Actually, hes started to use the name "Daniel Andrews" now.
Essentlly, if you hear him in a recentish Bandai show, its Steve. Geneon or earlier Bandai shows, it will be Lucs or Andrews.

- Steven J. Blum
- Steven Blum
- Steve Blum
- Roger Canfield
- Richard Cardona
- Steven Jay
- David Lucas
- Andrew Watton
So, there you have it.

It's interesting because he has such a distinctive voice, you know it's him. And I bet the union knows too, and they're just letting him go on. Hrm.

He's popular, it'd be bad press if they fined him.

You know, if he did get found out, or anyone on his legal team found out people were making connections, the cease and desist orders may fly. And if he gets hit by a fine... oh boy.

You can just hear that they are the same person. This question came up for me a long time ago, but I always thought they were the same. My friend didn't agree though....and that letter up there didn't help my case.

That letter is the only "proof" they aren't the same person. Flimsy proof at that.
