Sun City

This was a benefit project that Steve Van Zandt put together in the mid 80s. The project was following the tradition of other projects like it (eg Band Aid, We Are The World, etc). And I liked this better than "We Are The World". The project featured loads of people. Too many to list! Just a few that contributed in addition to Steve Van Zandt are:

Joey Ramone
Peter Wolf (from the J. Geils Band)
Daryl Hall
John Oates
Bob Geldof (of the Boomtown Rats)
Pete Townshend
Peter Gabriel
George Clinton
Bobby Womack
Darlene Love
Bruce Springsteen
Michael Monroe (or Hanoi Rocks)

and too many others I don't have time to list!!!!

It could've also featured Jack Blades, Kelly Keagy and Peter Frampton. I think this is one of the best benefit singles ever made along with Hear 'n Aid's "We're Stars".

While the Sun City album was a noble effort: protesting Apartheid and the South African resort which the album was named after, many bands and singers who performed there got a lot of criticism, whether they performed to desegerated audiences or not. One of those bands was the rock group Queen, who released a statement saying they didn't support Apartheid, but were a non-political band. How refreshing!

Now there's something that's really confusing.
