ADV Films News

ADV Films talked about one new license and anime on Cartoon Network at their panel today.

--------------------------

ADV Films announced that they have a license to release the original Macross TV series in North America and will, for the first time ever, produce an English dub for Macross.

[...]

More details from ADV's Anime Expo panel will be included in our full panel report later today.

Personally, I'm rather surprised that ADV was able to claim the rights to Macross. Until late 2004, smaller company AnimEigo held them and had released the series remastered and subtitle-only on DVD. I'm under the assumption that AnimEigo lost the license a result of pressure from Harmony Gold (producers of Robotech and supposedly the holder of Macross' international rights).

Unless there are gimmicks involved, I think I'll stick with my subtitle-only AnimEigo Macross DVDs for now.

They got it via HG. The only picked it up for a couple of years, when they lost it the rights when back to HG.

ugh an ADV dub, no thanks on that. I will also stick with Anime ego's sub only's even though I never bought them, in fact I've never bought anime ago...wonder how they even stay in business? X_X

If Robotech: Macross's license is now under one company's control, maybe they'll be able to pursue a live action movie like some had mentioned a while a go. If done right, I can see it being a sweet trilogy.

Whats wrong with ADVs dubs? They are usually always high quality.

Let's join hands and pray for a MUCH better Minmei voiceover and singer ...

Of course, just finding someone else would qualify as much better.

I'm just glad that FINALLY Macross is out of licencing hell!

GG ADV!

This is truly amazing news. Not only did ADV manage to pick up Macross, they actually got Harmony Gold to let them dub it! That's basically a "hell has frozen over and Satan has started a hockey league" moment right there. ADV's dubs have impvroved a lot over the years and they are dedicated to getting classic anime released in America. If only they'd had the last bits of legality worked out at AB and announced it then. I was at their panel, I probably would have fainted.

Heh heh... ever seen Soul Hunter? ADV easily takes a backseat to Bandai or Geneon/Pioneer when it comes to dubs. Though, that is my opinion. I haven't seen too many good ADV dubs, but that doesn;t mean they don't exist.

No, but i have seen Angelic Layer, Azumanga, Burn Up W/Xs, Chrono Crusade, Excel Saga, Getbackers, Gunsmith Cats, Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi, Najica, Pretear, SuperGals!, Super Milk Chan, Voices of a distant star, Zaion and probably a few more i cant remember

All of em good or better dubs, and i include NGE (despute the age of the dub) in that list of good or better.

Sounds more like youve only seen bad ADV Studio dubs, and want to tar them all with the same brush.

Oh and btw, Bandai and Geneon dont do dubs themselves.

Don't get your hopes up for a dub.....

Macross Update
English Dub not Guaranteed
------------------------------
ADV Films has updated us on their possible Macross dub, informing us that they hope to dub Macross in English, however it isn't a sure thing yet.

Whether or not Macross is dubbed in English depends on ADV being able to secure the necessary material from licensors.

I've seen quite a few ADV dubs. most range for good too average. I like alot of monster islands past work, it's a shame the better of the two studio's went outta business =/. IS&M's suffer's from "OMG!1!!1 Where overrated" Syndrome
although IS&M's has put out some decent stuff lately. just my two cents

Oh, here comes the rub. Why the *bleep* does Harmony Gold, who we haven't heard hide nor hair of since the 80's want to keep the licence in hell untill doomsday?

Seriously. They screwed it up, and I'm suprised that HG hasn't had their licence stripped by the Japanese Companys responsible. LET ADV DUB! I want to see a better dub of SDF Macross and have it released UNCUT!

WE DESERVE THE BEST!
