Wow I think MultiMedea has pretty much just sumed it up! ^_^"

It is truly a very interesting story between the two, my opnion well theres a lot of thigns that have to be read inbetween the lines and such I mean why elese would Roger decide to paint Dorothy? Or Dorothy decide to save Roger with a tank of Oxygen and so on. I support the love between the two not only because I feel that it is there in the series but for me for some reason it just seems to feel right. ^_~"

Is Dorothy Fully Fuctional? Very old thread.

Eventually the 'Is Dorothy Fully Functional?' discussion turned into a rather in depth analysis of Dorothy and Roger's realtionship or rumored 'lack there of of'.

Multimedia and a few others are on the right track. It is possible to find out for sure if Dorothy and Roger are in love but it takes a lot of work and I don't exactly remember how it goes right now.

Yeah, and if all that isn't enough, there is the fact that they end every episode with the two of them sitting on an hourglass together with a LOVE SONG playing. I thought that kind of made it obvious Wink And personally, I'd get more of a hormonal kick out of a girl like Dorothy anyway. Shocked I've dated girls like Angel before, and I wasn't really very happy. There's kind of a trophy effect when you show up with the bombshell, and the thrill from that is very temporary. At some point, you really want to be around someone you can talk to and spend time with. But I think Dorothy's more attractive anyway. She's subtle and mysterious, and even the little intimacies of things like riding in the car together, or just spending time together, would be a big deal with someone like that.

Roger loves Dorothy, Dorothy Loves Roger?

I have always wondered why everyone supports this so much, there is hardly anything to indicate this minus a bit of mind control, a joke, and a parting "gift" I dont see it.

and I 'm not doing this to troll, I really want to know.

Let's examine these three examples you give:

"Mind Control": Obviously you mean Beck's little trick on Roger in "Beck Comes Back". It's the one time Dorothy says "Roger, I love you", obviously under the control of Beck's golden headband. However, look beyond that. When Roger stared into Dorothy's eyes and Dorothy, even through the haze of the controller. Something clicked inside Dorothy then and she shorted out her own circuits in order to short out the the headband rather than crush Roger to death. Likewise, Roger dragged Dorothy (who weighs somewhere in the ballpark of 280 pounds) with him as he summoned Big O.

"A Joke" - Though most scenes involving the nature of their relationships *have* been played up for laughs (such as Dorothy calling Roger "the man that I love" in "The Greatest Villain"), one cannot doubt that they feel greatly for each other even in the midst of it. One of the best moments they share is immediately after that when they completely ignore Beck (stuck to an electro-magnet). Roger again reciprocates immediately on Dorothy's saving of his life by rescuing her from Beck's elctro-magnet in this scene as well.

"A parting gift" - Back to "Beck Comes Back" again. Dorothy is very forthright and tends to fluster Roger by asking questions that are difficult for him to answer. However, this indicates he is not certain of what his answer should be. He cannot say "no" because that would be lying and he cannot say "yes" because he's not sure if he can bring himself to consciously love an android (albeit an android who tricked him into thinking she was human no less than twice).

Roger's relationship with Angel is an equally complex story. They look good together, they're both tall, good looking, snappy dressers who tend to get into a lot of trouble togther. In this regards, they make a good couple. As a gentleman, Roger always makes the effort to help Angel and he obviously considers her a potential lover for some time. Yet at the same time, playboy extraordiaire Roger Smith cannot even bring himself to kiss her and is always hesitant around her without even meaning to be. It's not the same kind of holding back (societal pressure) that's holding him back from Dorothy, it *is* Dorothy. He *should* be able to kiss Angel and *should* be able to make their relationship work but he cannot. This indicates his feelings are somewhere else. Angel picks up on it even before he realizes it himself. Beck picks up on it and taunts him mercilessly for it. Alan Gabriel knows it as well, using it to his advantage on more than one occasion. Norman clearly knows Roger's feelings as well, though as a good butler he is tactful about it. It wouldn't surprise me if Alex Rosewater and Dan Dastun picked up on it as well. Roger manages to hide his emotions from himself but isn't very good about masking them from those around him, which is probably why he cut himself off from all his old friends when he left the Military Police.

Roger Smith prides himself on being a rational man, you see this in Underground Terror when he says in a tone of surprise, "Me! Afraid!"

If you've ever really fallen head-over-heels in love, then you'll know exactly what I mean when I say there is an element in it that is just completely out of control, and while you can ride the wave, you can't harness it.

It is no surprise that Roger would be fighting tooth and nail against those kinds of feelings for Dorothy in every way he can--talk about upsetting his well-ordered world! Of course he'd like Angel to be his girlfriend--he can keep his distance with her, keep everything under control. And when he goes to kiss her, he realizes it is completely empty and he can't go through with it.

The appeal of the Roger and Dorothy relationship may, for some, be the element of forbidden love, but for many more of us, I believe it is the story of two soulmates who complete each other and make each other more than they are alone. We find ourselves hoping that somehow, some way, they will overcome all obstacles and find the happy ending that is their just reward.
