Shredder usually starts these threads, but I'll take care of it this week. The episode is about to start, so feel free to post your comments here.

Wow, that episode was...interesting. Despite the complete and utter strangeness of the European, he was a rather likable, if nieve, guy. His story kept getting wierder and wierder as it went on, though most of it was pretty amusing. I did not realize that he would actually be all that important in Fuu's quest for the Sun Flower Samurai, but he did prove to be a pretty big lead. I also had no idea that those monks were actually Europeans, though I assumed they had a connection to him.
On a different note, the opening eating contest, really reminded me of the Iron Chef competition. More specifically the announcer and the guest star. Their commentary brought back old Iron Chef memories. Perhaps it was just me. Good episode overall. I'm looking forward to the next section of the journey.

The best part was Mugan's "Like anyone can relax their ass with you around" line. I also liked when Jin goes "My swords are on the line, Now swallow damn you!"

The whole homo thing was sort of weird at first, but once they explained it, it made sense.
Funny episode.

I thought this episode was really funny.
I've watched it in Japanese, and its funny to hear the broken Japanese.
I too loved Mugen's "Like anyone can relax their ass with you around", line.

Me too. I don't really like the English dub as much, but it was still a good episode.
I wasn't paying a ton of attention, but it was a cute episode. I heard people often react to the whole gay thing with an "uhhhhh..." sort of attitude, but I thought the guy was kind of goofy and endearing with his life story. (And that actor-boy. I'd go for him, too. :B)

I like that episode. I like them all, but that one had a bit more comedy which was cool. It also left you with the urge to find out what the nagasaki pendent thing is all about too.

was homosexuality persecuted in Japan as well? (i'm guessing yes)
pretty good episode. but:
who would've won: Fuu or the Dutch guy? i'm guessing Fuu, but i'm one to root for the home team.

I'm not that big on cultural history in Japan, but I know it was pretty durn common and/or accepted among samurai and their ilk. I seem to recall hearing that affection between men was regarded as the highest level of interaction/relationships possible (what with, face it, women being viewed as kinda inferior).

This was a good episode. This show keeps surprising me. My dad was watching bits of it with me. I guess we'll see if the Dutch guy really gave Fuu a good lead or not. I wasn't expecting him to be that important to the storyline either.
And, as usual, Mugen gets most of the good lines.

Well, it was like that in Greece, but whether or not it was like that in Japan is not within my expertise.

Ha. That episode was great.
It was the first episode I saw of the series, and I think this series will be a new favorite. ^^
I cracked up when I saw that the Norweigen blushing, and his back story was so great and tragic. Heh, all of it reminds of so much of cowboy bebop,,, heh, we have the sensible and serious man, I must say that fae(sp?) and the samari girl aren't quite the same... being 1 like... 14 and hasn't even finished puberty and certainly isn't as flashy and fruity. But we have the remaining samarai taking the place as spike... he even looks like him.
