Playstation 3 Revealed at E3

I know about inflation, dammit. I'm saying that people don't CARE about things being marginally cheaper 10 years ago because of it. I'm saying that if X costs $50 right now and Y costs $60 right now, and they're similar, people are more likely to go for the cheaper one. Of course, barring fanboyism, or if one of them blows the other one away marketing-wise.
X Prime 03-15-2006 07:47 PM
Ohh. Well that's different.
David Ryder 03-15-2006 07:49 PM
just be glad we don't have to pay $800 bucks for a system (Neo Geo) and upwards of 250 a game (again Neo Geo)
X Prime 03-15-2006 07:51 PM
Heh. Certain Neo Geo games now go for thousands on Ebay.

Indeed good thing for my
spoiler (highlight to read):
Neo Geo Emulator

And that's why like 3 people bought Neo Geos.

Indeed, and I never bought one because of the Obvious reason of the ton of Capcom rips *cough art of fighting cough*

You all should stop worrying about the price of games and wonder about the system itself. Be ready for forfeit your next birthday and christmas for the next couple years because all the parts within the PS3 (as of now) will make each unit cost about $700. The cpu chip inside costs close to $300 alone.

DAMN! How are you even going to be able to afford games after that?
David Ryder 03-15-2006 09:00 PM
last I heard it was only costing 400 bucks, but if it's more, I rather pay for something works, and won't screw up my games, get so hot it explodes, and won't even turn on.

From Wikipedia With manufacturing costs for Blu-ray and the Cell being so expensive, it is assumed the PS3 will sell at a loss through its lifetime. Standard pricing practice in the video game industry is to sell the hardware at a loss, at least initially, and then recoup the losses from game sales and developer licensing.

It's the only viable way, if they try to make back the manufacturing costs with the system itself, nobody would buy it.

Anyway...I'm just glad I'll (probably, depends on if all the "IT'LL BE WILDLY EXPENSIVE!" rumors are untrue as I suspect) have a ps3 before my ps2 finally dies...apparently that happens to people, I've only had problems with a used disc.
Mugiwara Luffy 03-15-2006 11:59 PM
See, I've wanted a PS2 for a while now, but haven't succumbed to getting one because the PS3 is coming out soon. And it would be dumb to not wait. But there's no way I can afford both a PS3 and a Revolution. Damn, I need some money....video gaming is an expensive hobby!
StevieV019 03-17-2006 11:28 AM
Wait for the PS3 to come out and then get a cheap PS2 if you want...or just hope the backward capability will cover the PS2 games you want to play.

I said it when the PS2 came out that it would be the last system Id ever buy...but with PS3 coming up...I may have to dump some money into one more system before calling it quits on the video game hobby. The main culprit is time, right now. I dont have the time to play all the games I want to...plus, Ive got games from the first playstation that have yet to be played...plus PS2 games as well...basically, Im digging myself a video game hole that I have yet to come out from...

Aren't they not dropping the current price point? At least not initially?

Unless you mean a used one or something.

I'd heard it'll cover all ps2 games...ps1 I don't know about (probably not)

As long as it works with MGS2, Silent Hill 3 (2 if I EVER FIND IT), MGS3, Mercenaries (that discs got problems though) and Resident Evil 4 I'm basically set.

edit: Oh...wonderful, hopefully my old ps2 won't die. Since I can't see buying these all OVER AGAIN.

Actually the PS3 wont be backwards compatible, but to compensate, Sony's is "borrowing" (don't they just seem to do that all the time?) from Nintendo's Revolution idea and having the entire PS1 and PS2 back catalogue in an online library and will download to the PS3's hard drive. Of course, you ahve to pay for each copy you buy, and how you're gonig to fit those games onto the hard drive's memory I'll never understand...
Generalissimo D 03-19-2006 08:17 PM
I'm guessing it involves sacrificing virgins and the drinking of goats blood.

Can you provide a link to where you read that? On IGN they still say that it's fully backwards compatible. I'm not entirely sure if I'm willing to commit the money to buy this thing, especially since I'll be in college next year, so I might have to spend the next few years on my trusty PS2.

Hmm...I'm sure I read it off of IGN, but now I can't seem to find that same article either.

So....

$499 for a 20 gig PS3

$599 for a 60 gig PS3

But is it worth it?
Inigo Montoya 05-08-2006 10:04 PM
That's more than the 360!! Holy crap, that is so not worth it.

For that cost, I'll just upgrade my PC, and pirate the PS3 games to my computer while playing Oblivion on the 360.
