Why do Big-O fans don't seem to hate Gamecube as much as most people do?

paul1290 05-08-2005 05:15 PM
I know this isn't true for all of us, but the number of Gamecube owners here seems to be higher than average. I'm beginning to think there may be some correlation between being a Big-O fan and not hating Gamecube as much.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Of course, it also could be that I'm just not used to seeing this many Gamecube owners because I'm usually surrounded by people who hate the Gamecube. I might just be living in an area that generally hates Gamecube so naturally I might have assumed that this is the case everywhere else.

Also, don't get the wrong idea, I don't hate the other two systems. In fact, I also have a PS2 and I'm planning to get an X-Box pretty soon.

Um... no.
Travis Bickle 05-08-2005 06:13 PM
I highly doubt they're related at all. Plus, it seems that there are a whole bunch of PC, XBOX, and PS2 gamers on here, so that was a terrible generalization to start with.

I'm not saying they like it more then their other systems, I'm just saying that they seem to like Gamecube more then most people do.

Again, this might be because I'm usually surrounded by people who hate Gamecube.

Oh shoot, I guess I typed it wrong. Sorry. I'd better go back and edit it.

And, again, I'm telling you that's a bad assumption. If you browse the Pool Hall, you can see that the opinions of the members here greatly vary from the other members. I, myself, prefer Nintendo and Sony over Microsoft anyday, but there are people on here that would flat out tell me, "OMG! GAMECUBE IS TEH S UCK!" and sign onto XBOX live a minute later. With that said, I suggest you don't go making such broad statements without evidence to back it up. I'm not telling you what to do; I'm suggesting it.

Thanks for the tip. I changed the title of the topic to something more appropriete so people don't get the wrong idea.

Let's just say I'm used to a LOT more Gamecube bashing than what I see coming from this forum. Again, I'm living in an area that hates Gamecube so naturally I've just assumed that this is the case everywhere else.

Actually, my friends Jon and Matt were the only two kids in our circle of friends that owned a cube (everyone else called it GayCube), so I can see where you're coming from...sort of...

Yeah I'm..not a huge gamecube fan either.

I keep it to a minimum, so I don't become that guy (the one who rants about consoles he dosen't own and dislikes.). Usually if my friend explicitly mentions it around me, I'll make a "gaycube" joke or something. But thats pretty much the extent of it.

Like I've said though. If I saw a used one, I'd give some thought to buying it (really mostly for RE4, The remake of RE1, and..maybe zero while I'm at it.) So I'm not as...stridently opposed to it as some. Likewise I'd also buy an x-box if the opportunity arose.

Or..if I wasn't so lazy. It's probably a combination of factors.
Volt 05-08-2005 07:35 PM
I own all three current systems, but in the last 6 months I've played one decent game for the Cube (RE4), so that's why I'm not too big on it at the moment.
So, yeah. Nobody can call me a fanboy now.
But I honestly haven't noticed the crowd of Cube "don't haters" you've mentioned. I haven't really noticed any definite preferences for or aganst any systems, with the exception of AndroidZeroX and BigOZ. Roll Eyes Tongue
Mugiwara Luffy 05-08-2005 08:25 PM
Well I am indeed a Gamecube fan. I suppose I'd buy a PS2 if I had enough money so I could play all the games I'm missing. Sure, a lot more games come out for the PS2 or X-Box than the 'Cube, but that's no reason to bash it. People call it a kiddie console and I can see that because there are a lot of, well I'd actually say "family friendly" games for the system. First of all, a lot of these are actually really great games. I bet if you looked at game lists, you would just as many games aimed at a young audience for the PS2 and X-Box, but you don't hear about them cuz they suck.

People who bash the GC are also forgetting about all the great games that are aimed for an older audience. Or games that aren't necessarily aimed for a Mature audience, but are certainly completely acceptable for an adult to play.

If you don't play the Gamecube then you are missing out a lot of great games. I'd say the best course action would be to own a Cube and one of the other systems. You know, except X-Box. Tongue
Patsai 05-08-2005 09:27 PM
Let's just say a lot of us are old school gamers and that the GC attracts that audience (which is true in real life too).

It's all really based on people's preference. Most of my friends who play the PS2 and X-Box hopped on the video game wagon after the 16-bit era and so they've been filled in the head with peer pressure, false advertising, and misguided conceptions about the "kiddie console".
Negotiator_Roger_Smith 05-08-2005 09:29 PM
i could not answr ur question! dont have a gamecube! sorry

Go Sanji. They just dont like us because we dont go out of our way to stick a M rating on every game.

I own a Cube and an X-box. Not to mention a laptop and a PC that is a few years old...so talk about oxymoronic.

Arr. Thank you for resisting The Flood(of trickery). Much like the Halo Enemies, no matter how many you kill, there is ALWAYS more and your best defense is a shotgun. Salute to the Loyal Gamers.
Captain Maw 05-08-2005 11:34 PM
decent Gamecube fan. i guess some of us (maybe the masses too) like the Gamecube for the reasons they advertise. (sorry, too lazy to list them). also, we don't fall for hype! (yeah!) and many of us used to be old-school gamers who like the Big N for keeping us plugged in. (NES, baby!) a few reasons i guess....
TanookiJoe 05-09-2005 12:39 AM
I can see where paul is coming from. Apart from Nintendo sites or fans, the Cube usually attracts such disregard or hatred that any moderate upswelling of favor, like it seems exists on this forum, seems like a bastion of support by comparison.
BethMcBeth 05-09-2005 12:56 AM
Hmmm I would guess that maybe since alot of us here grew up with Nintendon products we still are biasied to them? That would be my guess.

I own all three consoles. I only have two games for Gamecube thus far so I don't play it as much as it's other two siblings...only because I usually I'm buying releases on either the PS2 or the X-box. The Gamecube is a solid system and diffenately the fact that it's a Nintendo system lends to it's reliability. The best feature is it's compact and portable design. I don't believe that there is a higher consentration of Nintendo fans here than anywhere else, it's just that our discussions are always very respectful even if there is a difference of opinion.

i grew up with nintendo and sega, so i can relate to their products better. Happy
Sir Nise 05-09-2005 02:06 PM

IT owns your soul now!!!
