Best Movie Score..

Generalissimo D 04-14-2005 09:32 PM
Note:I was debating whether to put this in the Amadeus Pub or here...but finally decided here since its more movie related I guess...Feel free to move it.

Several, if not ALL movies have some little tune or jingle that causes instant recognition upon hearing it. Whether it be the deep dark tone of Batman, the Heroic orchestra of Superman, to the resonical sounds of The Matrix, to the soft melodies of Forrest Gump, and even to the well selected songs of several other movies. What ARE the best movie scores/OST in your opinion?

Mine:
1.The Matrix Revolutions
Favorite Track:Neodammerung
2.Edward Scissorhands
Favorite Track:The Ice Dance
3. Lord of the Rings
Favorite Track:Err...I'll get back to you on that...
Travis Bickle 04-14-2005 10:12 PM
-Blade Runner
-Sin City
-Donnie Darko
-Napolean Dynomite
-Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
-Kill Bill (the Rza pwns. WU TANG! WU TANG!)

Well I like pretty much all the Star Wars movies' scores. Imperial March owns. Duel of the Fates kicks ass. Yoda's Theme and the Asteroid Belt are a couple of my favorites too.

I like the main theme for Spiderman also.

The soundtrack for Kill Bill also kicks major butt. Battle Without Honor or Humanity and Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood are on top.

I would like to make a mention of Master and Commander as well. That movie wouldn't be nearly as good without the string music.

All 3 Indiana Jones movies
Speed
Batman 1,2
Mr. Peabody 04-14-2005 10:45 PM

3. Star Wars
4. Patton
5. Indiana Jones

John Williams is going to be placed next to the likes of Mozart and Bach 200 years from now.

I agree - anything with John Williams doing the score is best.

Don't forget Danny Elfman - Nightmare Before Christmas, MIB, etc.

My favorites would also include The Last Unicorn, Sister Act, and the Blues Brothers (which probably don't count as scores, but actual soundtracks).

Lets see....here we go:
(no particular order, and we're only talking about scores, not soundtrack music [songs, etc. only orchestral pieces])

Rocky
Terminator (1, 2)
Blade Runner
Indiana Jones (all three)
Star Wars (all of them)
Hero
Hoosiers
Field of Dreams

I think this might be more better suited to the Pub, so I moved it. Though you have a point!

None the less, fave soundscores...I can't pick seriously. I own a lot of what I like and I have a feeling after this summer, I'm going to own a lot more.
None the less, a few I can think of:

Villiage Soundscore
What Dreams May Come
Pirates of the Carribean
All of the Lord of the Rings
All of the Matrix sound scrores (not the inspired by)
Oklahoma (the most recent soundscore-does that count? I mean, it's a musical, but it's a soundscore too. GOSH, I GOT TO PLAY THAT MUSIC!).

That's all I can think of now.

I must agree with Zop,

Anything with John Williams scoring is ALWAYS good (in my opinion). Have you noticed that each main charcter (or group) has its own 'tune'.

Howard Shore does some good scoring, (Lord of the Rings)

The music from Dark Crystal deserves a mention as well as Without a Clue (but I'm biased as there is some brilliant clarinet stuff in it Big Grin )

Blues Brothers (both films).

And me must not forget the Big O music.

I'll stop, I could easily carry on for hours...
