Hi, a just picked up a copy of Dragon Rider. Everyone I know says that the author writes great books, but are they telling the truth?

What is this Dragon Rider? It might help if you included the author. I'm thinking of Dragon Riders of Pern, and I have a feeling that's not what you're talking about.
