It would be more interesting if it hadn't been a year since I took calculus and I was still able to understand all of that.
Have you heard of the Rogerian method of negotiaton? No,
really!

Whoa, heavy stuff!

I had no idea such thing existed... I wonder if the creator of Big O was aware of this fact. Just as I wonder whether he was aware of the mathematical Big O. The first I'm not so sure... Is Roger even "Roger" in the Japanese version? Not some popular Japanese name that starts with an "R"... The latter, though I think he was aware, because the Japanese go to school for 13 years, from 8 or 9 am unitl about 6 pm... Their school curriculum is very strict. They're way ahead of U.S. school-wise. They're all like genuises. And they take Calculus in the 10th grade. Or was it the 9th grade? Don't remember exactly, but they're totally out there as far as math goes, so I'm sure that we might have discovered another pun.

All of the names are the same between the Japanese and English versions of the show.
Also, I remember going over "big-o notation" on these forums a while back. It's used to calculate efficiency for mathematical algorithms, usually to determine how much time it would take for a computer procedure to run from start to finish. I've done a fair share of big-o problems in my algorithm analysis and discrete mathematics classes.
I'd like to think that it would be easy to tie this into the show, but there's an interview on one of the first season DVDs where one of the writers (Konaka?) is asked how he came up with the name for the Big-O, and the reason he gives is completely unrelated to this.

The reason I thought this might be relevant to the show was time. Time seems to be a big symbol in the show, all those hourglasses...

You're not the first to bring this up as the possible namesake for our beloved Megadeus. But the name is a homage to some older robot anime, where characters chanted "Oh! Oh! Oh!" Weird reason, but that's what they said.
Lots of weird stuff on those interviews. Like the fact that the whole show was conceived as a way to sell toys...

Amazing how something so shallow and cliche could give birth to something so complex and deep and attract so many followers/fans... In Russian, there is a saying that goes: "All that is genius is always
simple". Right on.
About the interviews, can anyone tell me what else was said? I haven't had the pleasure (and luck!) to see any.

Was there a show or were they on DVDs as extras?

"Gotta pay the rent" is probably the most powerful creative force in the universe.

And the name Becker comes up too!
The closing paragraph of that page is exactly the paradigm that Alex Rosewater invoked and made true in his world.
Does all this mean that if we watch Big O we get smarter?

I think they added that because they had some C.S. geekdom inside of them and wanted to make a big subliminal motif into the story. i doubt we get any smarter, but more entertained, a definite.

Big O does mean some strange things in english, i recall seeing that big-o notation while searching for big-o things, and i found that big-o also means something naughty

Or try searching for the Schwarz inequality.
It fits.

its hard to see that the creators thought about all these refrences to math and stuff was planned. its probaly a coincendence.
im A GEEK NOW, oh god help me. Well i better go yell at some comic book owner about how the ultra eternal was really a clone

This is really cool! I'm already a geek so it doesn't matter to much for me. Actually I prefer the term nerd. Whatever... It is possible they knew. Whenever I write, my characters names are sometimes chosen by its meaning, etc. Of course sometimes I do things that I don't even notice.
