Ah well. No point in fighting with you guys (again). You're all doing the noble thing by ruining the book for people and defending that right.

Well the book isn't out yet, meaning its release date would fall in...yes, the future..albeit the very near future, yet I am aware of this detail about it.

So really, the title of this threads entirely valid, notification was given.

Well, I did X Prime--aside from a few pages being just about unreadable (not very important pages, mind you), the book was rather readable.

I'm not going to spoil anything, that'd be too cruel, but I will say...I predicted most of the general happenings. A certain friendship that is revealed, a certain motivation that is revealed, where (and what) something is...I won't get any more specific than that.

The epilogue was also...well, my first reaction was rather a letdown, but on second thought, it did fit the story, so I won't complain too much.

Overall? I thought the concept, and the story--I thought those were great. Some of the central story arcs were very compelling. Unfortunately, as was the case in the sixth book (and the fifth, to a lesser extent), the execution was rather poor. The pace of the novel was, once again, very off. It wasn't really until one hundred to two hundred pages in that the pace really picked up, but by the same token, there were parts at the end that were unnecessarily rushed. Some of the later chapters were very frantic, and it was very hard to put pictures of what was going on in my head because of vague descriptions. Once again, I was left wanting for certain details, as some things were left underdeveloped (I'm not referring to loose plot ends, those are mostly tied up, but there were certain feelings and relationships I really wanted explored more than they were), and the overall descriptive style was certainly not up to the standard of the first three books (but then again, that's been the case since book four, really).

Still, the climax of the book, I think, is fantastic. And again, the story itself, well-thought. Due to execution, however, I'd give Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows a 7/10, and that's being generous. I'll still buy a copy for myself, I really only got the JPG ebook out of impatience (and so I wouldn't be spoiled by someone else, which would have happened).

I think most Potter fans are going to be generally happy with the result.

I got my copy from the mail lady. I wrote a funny message on the inside cover. I don't know why though. It just begged to be written.

Mathamatics say I've read about 40% of the book so far. . . I'm having fun.

I want to take this opportunity to voice how disappointed I feel after finishing Deathly Hallows. I was engaged through most of it, but it doesn't feel satisfying at all. Too little Snape, too predictable, and too many cop-outs. Too cliched. Too many instances that I had no idea who was doing what because of all the use of "he" instead of real names. Just...meh.
Sharpshooter005 07-23-2007 12:22 AM
Snape kills-

Wait no, he DIES. Whoops

Spoiler'd, 'cause I'm a nice guy.

spoiler (highlight to read):
Thought it was a pretty good read. Main grievances were

1.) Lack of detail in descriptions. Places and things could get confusing, or just not memorable. Plenty of places where 3 words woulda done better than 1.

2.) Epilogue was made of suck and fanfiction. I won't read it next time.

Seriously, what the sh** was that about.

3.) Crabbe destroying the horcrux. Real, real random, especially if it coulda been Malfoy. Though its still fun to say "I GOT CRABBES!"

Other than that, it was pretty awesome. The last few chapters were real, real fanservice-y, what with OLIVER WOOD??? showing up, and all. This is not a complaint. Also, some of the details that were included were great, like the Ravenclaw door asking impossible questions.

Lastly, I'm still mourning the loss of George's ear. That is tragedy right there, folks. Bawled my eyes out.
