I just got laid off from my miserable newspaper job two weeks ago and all of a sudden my future's wide open. Although I had made a New Year's resolution to look for a new job, those pinheads beat me to it by laying me off with nine other people from the building. My paper is losing millions of dollars because of creditors they can't get to honor their debts and they had to drop some dead weight somewhere. The reason for laying me off specifically was that I was last into my department and therefore had to be the first out. I feel like I have been let out of jail and yet in order to keep the unemployment checks coming in, I need to demonstrate to the New York State Department of Labor that I am indeed looking for work.

Sigh....

Can't I just get a pass for mental health reasons? Like for enduring four years of intense verbal abuse and harrassment from a supervisor?

Aw, hell, enough whining...As one of my best friends told me before the Easter weekend: I'm going to be OK, because I'm neither stupid nor weak.

I have a family wedding to attend on July 16th, but a trip out to your crib would be so sweet.

I will let you know if I can seriously entertain your offer.

And even if I can't come, I will supply your fete with a Rochester, NY favorite: red AND white hot dogs!

As you know, a job will be flying along and you'll find out that its the thing you've always wanted to do your whole life, and start a career, and before you know it, your on top of the ladder.

What's the pecking order mentality (is it like the thing with chickens)? i guess your right, seeing how, jobs are a mighty fine confusion to me (i was hired as a clerk in Mt.Sinai, and a busboy at Grey Dog's) but since i was in school, they didnt really look at my resume, they just interviewed me, maybe it's a an adult thing?

Actually, that's not really a hindrance to getting employment. It's hindrance to not being driven insane by the job you get.

You're absolutely right, ravenlore....if a nail dares to stand up, it gets hammered down eventually. It gets better every day...you guys are right, I will be fine.

maybe we should have a roster of: ppl who are sure they can make it, ppl who are kinda sure, ppl who are skeptical. for each setting. you know, to keep track, (and maybe stir up some competition: which setting can rally the most ppl)

No prob, Cerpin - I got you and Spoony down 'for sure'. Anyone else from that neck of the scrub?

As mentioned, I'll be asking for addresses to send out invites in early May. And you don't have to be sure if you're coming - sometimes having the invite with the host's number/email on it will help parents decide.
