Forum Upgrade Tonight (Planned Downtime)

Just wanted to let everyone know that we will be upgrading the forum software soon (probably this weekend), so expect a few hours of downtime during this time. Smaller upgrades (e.g. 2.1.4 -> 2.1.5) are quicker and do not require planned downtime (plus, they are applied immediately if they are urgent), but this is a bigger, non-urgent upgrade and will require more time. As for new features, there are a few that deal with attachments, searching, and private messages, but most of them will be on the administrative side. If you have any questions, feel free to post here.

Thanks for letting us know in advance! ^_^
It just so happens that I'll be out of town this weekend, so when I get back PCF should be back up, and it won't even feel like it was ever down at all! Hehe.
Just a reminder that we have the
NeoSpeakeasy if the outage takes longer than anticipated--bookmark it now!

You say the forum software will be upgraded. Will this affect the rest of the site?

The only other part of the site that depends on the forum software is the news page, so there shouldn't be any noticeable changes to the rest of the site (and if the upgrade breaks the news script, it won't be hard to fix since I wrote most of it myself).

Ah good.
Hopefully someone will be at the Neo-speakeasy to pluck me out of the water when I Jump overboard for the upgrade. (Checks life vest to see if it's buckled)
See you guys after the upgrade!
*jump... SPLASH!*

...A few hours? If anything, the upgrade should take all of five minutes UNLESS Krang wants to redo all his mods then and there. At that point I'd give it an hour. I'm seriously betting he won't have to do much of anything as most settings are retained. The update from 2.0 to 2.1 was a far worse nightmare.
Either way we won't be waiting very long at all.

Nothing will change that we'll immediately notice, except maybe the External Link notes, the addition of an Attachments section to the User CP, and the Posting screen.

Yeah, I'm overestimating a little, but it's better than underestimating.
I do need to backup the database, reapply all the template and language changes, double check the settings, and make sure my custom addon scripts all work after the upgrade, so there is still some work to be done.

Oh yes... If you want to rewrite your scripts, basically you only need to revise the session hash variables into their appropriate new replacements, and revise some language variable calls if they have variables inside. That's kind of it. For the most part everything should work. What template changes did you make anyway? Besides the % thing in profiles and quote boxes, I'm just not seeing any.
Oh, by the way... You might want to add no-cache meta tags to headinclude when done. There's a nasty PHP caching bug in Opera.

There's also several corrections that I made to the date format on the various calendar pages, the changes to fix the cellspacing, and various other miscellaneous changes here and there. And thanks, I'll look into the Opera problem once I upgrade.
