White Noise

Trust me—do yourself a favor and do not bother wasting your time or money going to see this movie.

While the premise was interesting and had potential, this movie completely fails to deliver anything other than a few startling moments.

The acting was nothing special—at all. There were a lot of cheesy moments. There were a large ammount of plot holes—many things were also left unexplained.

Oh, not to mention the trailer for this movie is completely misleading. The trailer makes this movie out to be a film about the dead contacting the living through EVP. However, what the film is actually about is...

spoiler (highlight to read):
...people who are still alive contacting other people who are alive so that they can be saved from various situations (car accident, hostage, etc.).

On a good day I would rate this movie no more than a 3/10.

But it's the return of Michael Keaton! I haven't seen him since multiplicity! Is it really that bad?

What the trailers sounded like to me was that it was a movie about the dead contacting their loved ones though the TV like you said, But evil ghost things started to come through. From what you said, Almasy, it seems to be far from that. I haven't seen it, I don't want to see it now, consitering the trailers were false advertising. And it doesn't sound intresting at all now, consitering, like I said, the trailers sounded diffrent then what the movie really is. The truth is reveiled!

Well, I was in a bit of a rush to get to class before, but I'll elaborate...

Basically, when my friend and I left the theater, I felt empty. There was nothing to talk about with regards to the movie (other than how boring it was).

The movie didn't go anywhere. It didn't do anything. The dialogue and events was predictable.

And finally, when the climax did arrive, it was like, "Um...I waited two hours for that ???" Confused Confused Crying

Also, there are basically only two characters in the entire movie. In some movies a small amount of characters might work extremely well (“Closer” 2004—only four characters in the ENTIRE movie) but it certainly does not in “White Noise”.

Michael Keaton's character, and this woman who helps him understand EVP. Keaton doesn't really talk that much, now that I think about it, and the woman is so insanely boring!

When I think of this movie, I think of the following words:

- Nothingness
- Forgettable
- Lifeless
- Repetitive
- etc.

Again, don't waste your time, energy, or money going to see this movie. It's not that it was a poorly made movie or anything...it's just so...blah! Empty!

Aww, Damn it. It looked like a good horror movie too. Why, oh why do people think movies must have something to do with something that has nothing to do with the trailer.

So, not even the Michael Keaton can save this film? Damn it... again... I wanted to like it too...

Time to wait for the DVD!

I made a list of major plot points in the movie containing MAJOR SPOILERS...

spoiler (highlight to read):
1. Before she goes missing, Anna Rivers (Chandra West) tells her husband, Jonathon Rivers (Michael Keaton), that she is pregnant.

2. After it is confirmed that Anna is dead (body found in river), Jonathon tries to make contact with her using E.V.P. with the help of a specialist, Raymond Price (Ian McNeice).

3. When arriving at one of their scheduled meeting times, Jonathon finds Raymond Price dead in his office, and much of the office destroyed.

4. Jonathon begins learning to control/use E.V.P. himself. He briefly makes contact with his dead wife, Anna. Other seemingly "dead" people begin to contact Jonathon.

5. Jonathon soon discovers, with the help of Sarah Tate (Deborah Kara Unger), a customer of Raymond Price, that the "dead" people contacting him are actually alive. They are people who are in near-death situations, who need rescuing/saving/helping.

6. After saving one woman's baby, Jonathon takes it upon himself to locate a local woman who was recently abducted since she has been contacting him through E.V.P.

7. When Jonathon locates the warehouse where the abductee is located, he realizes that it is near the same area where his wife died. We later find out that the wife, Anna Rivers, was abducted and tortured (instead of falling into the river and drowning).

8. The guy who has been abducting these women turns out to be a construction worker who worked for Jonathon (who is an architect). This was a big let down, since this construction worker was just some random guy who we saw for literally ten seconds somewhere in the middle of the film.

9. The reason the construction worker had been abducting, torturing, and killing women is because three ghosts told him to.

10. Jonathon (Michael Keaton) tries to stop the construction worker from killing his latest victim, but the three ghosts who told the guy to abduct the women in the first place swoop down and attack Jonathon. They ultimately toss him into a pit, and he dies.

11. Before the construction worker can kill the woman that Jonathon tried (but failed) to save, a huge team of police charge in and shoot him.

The End! Dead

It looked promising...but I'm going to take your word for it. I've seen too many dissapointing movies. However the real life phenomona is rather intriguing. Thank you for the heads up Almasy! ^.^

You know, my Parents and my sister saw the movie over the weekend (I was on a retreat in Camden, NJ), and my parents said it wasn't too bad. Certainly, not a great scary movie (but what scary movies are any longer), but my parents suggested to me that it would be a good rental.

I thought it was good. Overall it had a solid plot and there were several moments I would deem scary. The ending was somewhat disappointing but I still liked the movie. I would recommed it to others but if you've already read all the spoilers in this thread then you probably shouldn't see it.

I actually liked it. Sure it wasn't the best but it was better than Hide and Seek IMO.
