Half-Blood Prince Release Date

Neko 12-21-2004 01:54 AM
So, according to JKRowling.com, the new Harry Potter book is completed, and the release date'll be hopefully announced sometime today. Yaaay.

(If you want to see the message for yourself, get to the room with the door and the mirror, click on the Christmas tree in the mirror, then click on the presents, answer the questions, and when all the lights are lit, click on the card with the star. ^^)

I kinda figured she was done with it when she announced the title. She learned her lesson well with the previous books not to gab about titles until she was done.

Although I am glad she got it done before she progressed too far into her pregnancy. We may have never heard of it until 2006 or so.

If I understand the publishing industry correctly, the book will be released either summer or fall of 2005.

(My bet's riding on Dean Thomas of being the prince in question - sort of ironic that just after she annouces the title, Dean's bio at the HP Lexicon gets updated with his family history.)

Update from the HP official websites (including JKRowling, HPANA, and Scholastic):

The release date for 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince' is July 16 of this year.

Barnes and Noble and Amazon (both online) are accepting pre-orders; the book will be $29.99.

From JKRowling.com:

Door Open - A VERY Happy Christmas, Everyone!

The door is open again on JKRowling.com. Click below to find out what you have to do to open it, and more about what's inside. Thanks speedy Emily!

There is an EXCELLENT message waiting inside but we're not putting it on the main page for a few more hours yet!

Click the Christmas tree in the mirror; apparently the gifts under the tree, when clicked, only turn off the lights in the room thus far. Perhaps we have to wait until Christmas morning?

Update: Ellen says you can drag the presents up and they levitate, and the room doesn't go dark. There are six unlit candles, six presents, six Christmas lights of each color and six people in the picture up on the left, six points on the star - remember we're hoping for info on book six. And now there seems to be something floating around about questions and answers...hang tight.

And - there are only five cards. Which means perhaps we're searching for the sixth?

UPDATE: A ha. There are questions when you click the presents. Click away!

The tags hold questions, one of which is this riddle:

I cannot be other than what I am
Until the man who made me dies
Power and glory will fall to me, finally
Only when he last closes his eyes

And this one:

Two in a whole, and four in a pair
And six in a trio, you see?
Eight's a quartet,
But what you must get
Is the name of just one of me.

Say you'd never seek to lose me
While you live we cannot part
I must dwell lifelong inside you
Locked within your beating heart

Also asked:
What is Ron Weasley's least favorite luncheon meat? (CORNED BEEF)
What form does Hermione's Patronus take? (OTTER)
What city did baby Harry fly over? (BRISTOL)

When you're done, there's a message from Jo that says there will be a release date from her publishers for HBP IN THE NEXT 24 HOURS.

Oh, Jo. Jo, Jo, Jo. We hope you're laughing at us crazies.

Here's the text of her Chirstmas message:

I know you all expected this to happen on Christmas day, but I was sure that those of you who celebrate Christmas have better things to on the day itself do than to fight your way into my study, whereas those of you who DON'T celebrate Christmas would definitely prefer not to wait until the twenty fifth so...

'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince' is COMPLETED and has been delivered to my English language publishers, who hope to announce the publication date within 24 hours.

Although I have joked about HP&THBP racing my third baby into the world, I have in fact had all the time I needed to tinker with the manuscript to my satisfaction and I am as happy as I have ever been with the end result. I only hope you feel that it was worth the wait when you finally read it!

Wishing everybody a wonderful holiday and a happy and peaceful 2005,
With love from,
JK Rowling."

Thanks to Leaky Cauldron.org and Knives from Gundam Plus Forums for the information.

It will probably be released in the US around summer 2005, it's hard to say at the moment.

Just thought this would be good news to some, myself included.

And there is just one more to go. Where everything gets wrapped up in a nice little bow.

It's been one hell of a ride for HP fans it looks like. We LotR fans can relate.

XD My friend and I did the whole waiting-in-Borders-for-the-next-HP-book thing when Order of the Phoenix was released. Good thing Borders had a cafe; I consumed three iced coffees while standing around. X3

I've heard about this. Sounds good, I was expecting for there to be some more of a wait for this.

My friend just had a theory as to who the Half-Blood Prince will be:

spoiler (highlight to read):
Hagrid. He is half-giant and half-human, I believe.

Sure took her long enough...two years is too long...I, personally, hope it's Snape...I haven't figured out how that would work yet, but I'm sure we...er, she could think of some way...

I'm not putting this in a spoiler because it's actually on J.K. Rowling's Official Site, but she says that neither Voldemort nor Harry Potter fill in the spot as the Half Blood Prince.

Personally I think it could be Dean Thomas (more info as support in her website) but after talking with some of my friends, there's just as much to disprove it. But I'll still back Dean.

We shall see...soon enough..
Lady Tesser 12-23-2004 05:04 PM
You and me both, NVWC2006. I'd actually like for her to disprove my bet on Mr. Thomas.
