Brief Overview
Until 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' is released, my dark humor soul is going to be pacified by Lemony Snicket's twisted mind.
December 17, folks!

...I have mixed feelings about the trailer. The sets look great, most of the details seem to be there (if slightly subordinated in places)
...but...Jim Carrey.
I'm hoping it's just the clips they chose...he's a capable actor.

I have to admit I have not read all of it, but my daughter has and I know that's what I'll be doing the afternoon of the 17th.
She now has acquired a taste for tales of misery and woe and won't read anything that seems even mildly uplifting.
I have heard conflicting accounts of how many of the books will be covered in this movie...does anyone else know?

I wish little bro would...he's moved on to Edgar Allen Poe stories.
I'm pretty sure it's the first three books: A Bad Beginning, The Reptile Room, and the Wide Window...which is why you can see Aunt Josephine and Uncle Monty in trailer.

Lemony Snicket

. That guy is really cool.
Then again, I've only read one book from the Series of Unfortunate Events. But, I've read the back on each one. I get a great kick out of the little blirb on the back.
Either way, I'm going to try to catch this movie. It looks interesting.

He he! I'm looking forward to this movie. The sites are hysterical! For example go to
Count Olaf's Offical Site. I got such a kick out of it when I was reviewing it! "Heartthrob, Ultimate Dad!" ROFL
Children love these books and since I was smart, I've got the majority of the series coming my way from the library. Won't see it until I read all of them that I can! I might do the book on tapes too...Tim Curry does some of them. I listened to Book 2 and I thought it was GREAT!
ANYWAY, I'm kind of looking forward to this. I have my worries too (because I thought ALL the books were going to be covered and I know they are not all published yet). I do know that the second book is covered as someone else mentioned. Eh, I'll see it sometime during my break.
Later,

Well, the Chicago Tribune gave it four out of four stars. And if you don't know it, that means it is very, very good. The Trib is kinda stingy on the stars most of the time.
To tell you the truth, I haven't read the books, and I'd much rather read them first, then see the movie. But I still am quite curious about it, though. Four stars from the Trib is something you can't always pass up...

I saw it last night with my daughter (who has read all 11 books thus far).
She couldn't quite get over the fact that it wasn't EXACTLY like the books (kids are like that). I really enjoyed the movie and it is definately worth seeing. It is not neccesary to have read the books. In fact, I would say that it's maybe best that you don't come with the idea that they will be anything like the books. It just makes the movie more enjoyable. Please do stay for the credits, they are worth it.
Oh yeah, the San Jose Mercury News gave it a 2.5 stars...but then again, they are idiots. They gave "The Empire Strikes Back" the same rating back in the day. So WTF do they know?

Funny funny movie. I enjoyed it very much. It had its sad and happy moments as most movies do. But this one felt like much much more. If i could explain it better, i would.
I saw it the other day and really enjoyed it!! ^__^ The best part was that I knew someone in the credits- a family friend was one of the cameramen for the movie! (Also, i saw a poster for Ring Two outside, which I am more or less anticipating... actually, my sister will force me to see it and ill be sleepless for weeks, but thats beside the point! ~cries~ )
I thought it followed the books fairly well, besides mixing things up and adding things in, but you could totally enjoy the movie even without reading the books.

I went an saw it a little while ago... and any of u who loved jim Carrey Ace Ventura style and are tired of his newer "more proffesional" majestic acting career u will be pleasently surprised liek I was to see that he is back to the old goofy acting job, I hope he realized that that is where his real talent is.... comedy, not drama

I also SAw it too! I actually really enjoyed it alot! I love have they gave the movie that gothic (and I mean art style wise not as in Goths although they rule too! ^_^""") And how true they kept the caracters as to the books as well. Jim CArey did a pretty good job pulling off the Count thats a pretty tuff role but what a perfect person to place in! The actress for Violet was fanastic excatly true to the book I beleive! Sunny what can I saw? Just adorable with the sharp teeth! ^_^"" And Clauis's actor was good as well! I will still defently reccommen the book sereis though! They are awsome too! ^_^""

I though the movie rocked. It's the kind of movie that really keeps you going. Jim Carey rocked, but the supporting cast ruled too. So, I'd high recommend this movie.
