Any assistance would be appreciated.

I use the same service, and text pictures from my phone all the time. You have to send them as Multimedia messages, which you might have to have a special account for (which I have).

Recently this "isearch desktop search" thing showed up on my computer. It's this annoying little bar that shows up on top of my taskbar (I have XP) when I start my computer and the only way to get rid of it is to go through task manager. Is there any way to get rid of this crap permanently? I'm not sure how I got it...a while back an isearch toolbar showed up in my IE on its own, too.
Dingo 02-09-2005 06:51 PM
Try the looking for it in the add/remove programs thingy in the control panel. And lets not forgot using adaware and spybot search and destroy too.
Mike 02-09-2005 07:00 PM
Nope, it doesn't show up under add/remove programs, and Adaware and Spybot didn't kill it.

Download and run Hijack This!, and attach the log here (preferably zipped). The isearch desktop bar is notoriously hard to remove, so this should help track it down so that you can get rid of it.

Hmm...that link didn't work. And when I tried looking for Hijack This on Google I found something different that didn't work at all.

It's possible that the spyware is preventing you from visiting the HijackThis site through a modified HOSTS file. Try this link instead: http://216.180.233.162/~merijn/downloads.html

WOW. That is PURE EVIL for someone to block an anti-adware site like that.

er...I got this error when I tried to attach. The file is only 4kb.

Sorry about that, I'm still working on setting appropriate attachment quotas for the various usergroups. I fixed it, so you can try uploading it again.

Thanks.
I think I have a ton more spyware than I thought, my computer has been reeally slow lately.

Wow, that isearch bar is some of the most persistant spyware I've seen. It disables you from visiting anti-spyware sites, it sets itself as your homepage, and it even embeds itself into the HTML filter. Anyway, here's how to get rid of your spyware:

First, make sure you have a copy of this post, since you won't be able to access the internet from safe mode. Now, boot into safe mode (reset your computer, then repeatedly press F8 as it's starting up until a menu shows up that allows you to start up in safe mode) and run HijackThis again. When it displays the results, check the boxes next to these items:
code:
1:
2:
3:
4:
5:
6:
7:
8:

Now click "Fix checked" and exit HijackThis, but don't reboot yet. While you're still in safe mode, open Windows Explorer under Start Menu > Accessories and select Folder Options from the Tools menu. Also, delete the following folders and everything in them:
code:
1:
2:
C:\WINDOWS\isrvs\
C:\Program Files\WildTangent\
Now restart your computer again, run HijackThis again, and post the new log to make sure the spyware is gone (you can delete the one from your previous post if you want).

I just got my new computer from the school today! and alredy, there's problems.....the mouse doesn't want to move....I mean it moves but not that much! What's happening is it doesn't want to move it's like its gunked up, but it's not. My dad and I cleaned it out the best we could and nothing helped it! I also tried diffrent mouse pads and they didn't work eather! And I dont think my other mouse that I used with my other computer's final months is the right kind for this one. or doesn't it matter? I mean they're both PS/2 mice, but I don't think they're the same voltage. Does that matter or not? I'm confused....

Also, I need to find a place to re-download Ulead Gif animator. Also do you know a free zip file opener like WinZip? Because I want to re download the fonts I had on the other one, and I can't do it without one. Thanks....

For the GIF animator program, you can get a trial version of it here. As for a free zip extraction program, try either 7-Zip or WinRAR. Both programs are free and do a good job of extracting zip files and the like. Smile As for your first question, sorry, can't help you there.

As long as they're both PS/2 mice, the voltage won't matter. I recommend trying the old mouse and seeing if the problem remains. If it still has problems, try going into the control panel under Mouse. From there, click either the "Pointer Options" or "Motion" tab (depending on your OS) and try moving the Pointer Speed slider to a faster setting.

Ok, this is really strange. The little volume icon in my start bar, by the time is gone. I checked the properties and it's set to be shown, but there's nothing there. I also restarted, and still no volume icon.

I've gone into Control Panel/Sounds and Audio devices, click on the 'Place
volume icon in the task bar' and get the following message

'Windows cannot display the volume control in the task bar because the
Volume Control program has not been installed' message.

Don't know what happened to it and would like it back, anybody got any ideas
please.

What in the world is going on here? Confused Confused Confused Confused

*edit*

Nevermind I solved it myself *does "i fixed it on my own dance"*

I googled the problem and got this

http://support.microsoft.com/default.asp...kb;en-us;319095

Did what it said *thank goodness I had the cd* and I got the little icon back!

*Hugs volume icon* Don't you ever dissapear on me again!

Hope this helps anyone who might have this problem at sometime. Smile

For the past few weeks, if not months, whenever I try to access Hotmail, I get the following:

I've talked to other people, and this problem is not happening to them.

Here's the deal. We have two un-used mice and the one that came with the pice of junk. The one that came with it sticks. Then the old mouse from my mom's computer sticks, then the other one from my old computer doesn't work at all. it doesn't make the curser move. So basicly I'm thinking bad mouse drivers.....

Here's another problem that just popped up. the moniter blinks! this didn't happen yesterday. But for some reason the screen just starts blinking and changeing contrast on me! I tightened the conection (It was loose) and it didn't help it none.

Is is posible that I have a virus? because for some reason the Corprate Norton won't update.....and hasn't updated since november, and I just got it yesterday!!!!!!!

That looks like a server-side error, so unfortunately there's not much you can do other than wait for Hotmail to fix it. However, there is the possibility that there is adware on your computer that added an entry to your HOSTS file to redirect hotmail.com to somewhere else. To check for that, visit this URL:
http://64.4.32.7/
If that brings you to the Hotmail site and http://www.hotmail.com/ doesn't, I recommend scanning for spyware using the tools linked to in the first post in this thread.

Yes, try reinstalling the mouse drivers and see if that helps. If not, try the Mouse Control Panel advice that I mentioned in my last post.

It could be a virus, but first, try double-checking all connections for the monitor (from monitor to cable, from cable to PC, from monitor to power cable, and from power cable to outlet). If that doesn't work, try updating the video drivers to see if the problem goes away. As for updating your virus scanner, if LiveUpdate doesn't work, try this link: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avc...s.download.html
Choose your product and OS, and download the appropriate virus updates from there.

Thanks, Krang! That damn isearch is gone, but I couldn't find all of the files that I had to delete.
code:
1:
2:
3:
C:\WINDOWS\BTGrab.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\toolbar.dll
c:\windows\CaseyVideo[1].scr

These were the ones I couldn't find. And I attached the new HijackThis log.

Problem....again, they gave me no disks....not even the XP or printer disks. I might just get another computer. But I need to keep this one working until I do! I tried messing around with the curser speed like you said, and it didn't help. It still does it...
