I can't say this for certain but I know when it comes to CDs, there's a few things you can do. Water or windex or some cleaner can help on the bottom of the disc as long as you spread from the inside of the disc outward, NOT circularly. follow the radius.

i've also heard of throwing a cd in the toilet. the swishing of the water is supposed to clean the thing out.

the final thing i can think of is toothpaste. if there are scratches that defract the light, toothpaste is an abrasive that MAY smooth out the scratches.

now, my own question, lol

converting fat32 to ntfs. http://www.aumha.org/win5/a/ntfscvt.php that page says i should make sure the clusters on the drive or partition are correct before converting. any thoughts?

also, right now i have 3 partitions. Vista, XP, and unallocated space. i want to expand the 2nd partition, XP. the unallocated space isn't enough. i don't know of a program that can move partitions backwards or anything like that... so let's say i want to expand the 2nd partition. i can ghost an image of the partition, then mess around with the partitions and create a 2 partition drive, vista and extra space, and then ghost the image back. will that cause any issues? i'm sure XP will want to perform chkdisk just to be safe but could it mess up anything else on the computer?

took care of the last issue.

any idea on how, other than getting a job, i can get some good, notable IT experience, preferebly in network engineering?

Anyone know how to send a newsletter to over 1,000 mailing list subscribers? So far everything I've tried (php script, gmail, email address from my host) haven't worked very well.

I found a trojan on my computer, specifically, one called MGRS.exe.

Anyone know a way to deal with this I can understand?

well i don't know that trojan off the top of my head, tho it's name sounds like some new form of Metal Gear ready to take over the world..

method 1) format and reinstall windows

methods that are probably actually worth trying:

1) updating and running your antivirus. if you can do a scan that runs before windows fully boots up, that'd be the best way to catch it. what antivirus do you have, if any?

2) updating and running ad-aware/spybot/windows defender. they can on occasion catch things more malicious than popup advertisements.

a quick check online says to use the method of killing the process and deleting the file. i would say, see if u can locate every instance of this file on your computer, and then try to kill the process and delete. if it won't let u delete, or it respawns in 5, 4, 3, 2.. etc. try it in Safe Mode. if that still doesn't work, u can try going through Windows Recovery Console if u know how to use a command line and going through it there.

and if anything i said sounded confusing or you don't know how to do it, report back immediately to be debriefed

Well, I got rid of it with a program called SUPER Anti Spyware.

Ending the process and deleting it doesn't work, by the way. No matter ow many times you do it, the program will somehow reconstitute itself.

But no matter, it's gone.

That program itself may be spyware as well. Grab some free anti-virus software (AVG or Avast! work well).

I'm using Norton '07.
