I did. Though it's not showing anything when I try to connect so I don't think it's blocking anything related to it.





Well I'm a fool, I didn't realize the program for some reason didn't have the right sever selected. Problem solved.

Argh! My home server got a virus and I can't get it out! (good thing for libraries)

In order to fix it, I need to install service pack 1 (Why it wasn't on there I'll never know), but to do that I need to be online. Whenever the modem is on and the server is on, the server won't work.

AHHH!!! WHAT TO DO!!!!!

It sucks what happened to your computer man but shouldn't this have gone in the Computer/Technical Help Thread?

Assuming you're referring to XP SP1a, you can download the entire pack here, then transfer it to your server when it's offline. And like Nine said, this belongs in the Computer thread, so I'll merge it soon.

i have a network folder of my university WebDAV drive. is it possible to set it up to appear as a network drive, or would i have to be physically on the network?

My university gives this information in regards to access the drive from a remote computer:

Open http://myhome.utoledo.edu/USERID in a web browser

In Network Neighborhood or Office Programs, go to My Network Places and connect to http://mysite.utoledo.edu.

At first I could open only in a web browser (which did not allow uploading) so and the others didn't work right... Using the web folder address in MS Word I was able to get the network folder working. WebDAV says online that it's normal for it not to work correctly with XP SP2.

so then... from the stuff i'm using on my network folder, can i make it a drive? nothing i've tried so far has worked.

Sorry, you can only map a network drive if you are directly connected to its network (so that it shows up under My Network Places > Entire Network).

i'm double posting right now, and i apologize, but the last time i edited an older post with a question, it went unnoticed, so yeah.

i bought a Bluetooth dongle, and installed Widcomm drivers for it (i can now use my Nintendo Wii Remote for all fun uses on a computer). the annoying thing is that the software installed an icon to my desktop and My Computer called "My Bluetooth Places."

I don't want the icon on my Desktop. But it's not a shortcut, it's like a direct link to the program and it cannot be deleted (i've tried). It's not listed in the Display Properties icons for your desktop like My Computer and Recycle Bin, so I'm guessing there's a registry edit or something to take care of this but I haven't found it.

Speaking of icons, installing Windows Live Messenger placed an icon for "My Sharing Folders" in My Computer. It's taking up the beautiful white background space of my screen! Make it go away!

I like My Computer having just my drives, User Folders, and the Control Panel. I don't need anything else there.

That can be removed by making a few changes to the registry. Back up the relevant registry keys first, then follow the advice given here (you can use either the suggestion that removes keys or the one that adds some keys about halfway down the page).

Go to Start > Search > For Files or Folders... and look for "fsshext.*.dll" (without quotes). Once a file is found, copy its name, then go to Start > Run and enter:

regsvr32 -u "FILENAME_HERE"

Replace FILENAME_HERE with the file's name, and be sure to leave the quotes in. Press Enter and the icon should be removed.

I was looking through that page, and one person had said "you can do this instead of installing TweakUI." I already have TweakUI, so I opened it up, and found that I could remove the My Bluetooth Places AND My Sharing Folders from the Desktop and My Computer. Kind of. It still appears in my Start Menu if I hover over My Computer but that doesn't bother me quite as much.

You may be able to remove it from the Start Menu if you turn the Bluetooth folder on from TweakUI, then make a backup of the keys mentioned on that page, turn the folder off again from TweakUI, and compare the two backups. If there are any keys altered on that page that aren't altered in your second backup, you can manually change them.

I got surround sound and a new soundcard. ALl the drivers are right and everything is connected correctly. But the sound is not surround. Any thoughts? ANd I also went to sound devices and did that setup. And still nothing.

Which sound card do you have? There may be additional software (besides drivers) that you need to install before it will work correctly. Also, make sure that the application you're using is set up to use surround sound.

It is a Sound Blaster Live! 24bit. Old but I don't have moeny to toss around. And I went through all options and everything is set and it still deosn't work.

Anybody got any idea why might my MP3 files all corrupped themselves?

I mean sure I did have this weird problem happen earlier where I downloaded another version of something and didn't change the name on the shortcut and everything went haywire...but that was a game that I know does not harbor any viruses. But ever since then my MP3s are dead! I'm doing a scan right now but I don't know what to think...my computer probably only needs rebooted or something.

Nevermind apparently it was because of some missing codecs....Codecs that I didn't need before O_o

Microsoft includes the codec to play MP3s in Windows. I personally had a problem in the past for when i installed ffdshow to default settings, and it messed with all of my codecs, so it's possible that a media player or something you might have installed or removed had messed around w/what is the default codec for mp3s and didn't revert it back later.

Now my Mic is constantly broadcasting.

First, double check all the connections and make sure all the speakers are connected properly and are receiving power. If that doesn't help, it is most likely a software problem. Try this troubleshooter to diagnose the problem (or this one if the first one doesn't help).

Go to Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices, and on the Volume tab, click Advanced. From the new window that pops up, go to Options > Properties and make sure that each of the boxes are checked. Now, check the Mute box underneath Microphone and see if it helps. If not, try muting other devices one at a time until it takes care of the problem.
