Um... how do I find older versions, go to the manufacterer site, or try the rollback driver?
in Event Viewer, under Application, there are literally thousands of the same error. i think 2227 of them.
"The COM+ Event System detected a bad return code during its internal processing. HRESULT was 80070422 from line 44 of d:\qxp_slp\com\com1x\src\events\tier1\eventsystemobj.cpp. Please contact Microsoft Product Support Services to report this error."
Also, under System, there are some 2400 errors...

Try the manufacturer's site, since they usually have the previous few versions available for download. Before you install it, though, go to Device Manager (Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager), remove the wireless device, and reboot the computer.

Neither of those seem to be related to the problem, so it doesn't look like the error is generating any events.
Somethign seems to have broken my Direct X. Every game I try doesn't even load, it just goes right back to desktop. Finally, one game told me "direct x error" and sent me to Microsoft's site, I redownloaded it, and it's still broke.
Also, I got new ATi drivers yesterday, could that be messing with it?

My computer has been freezing up whenever I try to install a game. It would start installing the game but part of the way through it would just stop and freeze with no error messages at all.
The only games I have been able to get working are Half-Life 2, Counter-Strike: Source, and Day of Defeat: Source. All these games use Valve's Steam program. Whatever the problem with my computer is, games using Steam are immune to it somehow.
Not sure if it helps but it seems to have started shortly after installing the external DVD drive.

Yes, it definitely sounds like a video driver problem. First, check Windows Update to see if there are any updated video drivers or DirectX updates. If so, try installing them, but if not, you might need to roll back the driver to an earlier version until they get the problems worked out in a future version.

Check Windows Update to see if there are any updates for Windows Installer. If not, try scanning your hard drives for errors by going to My Computer, right-clicking the drive, selecting Properties, and clicking the Check Now button on the Tools tab. You also might want to try
testing your RAM to see if there are any problems.
I tried downloading Direct X again, and the second time it worked. The first time it told me it installed but actually didn't, probably because I used Firefox. So now everything works except Half Life 2.

Anyone know of either video editing software, or a video player that can slow/speed-up the video/audio?
I know that IrfanView can, but I've found that it can only do so on certain formats, and for some reason despite converting video to the format that works(*edit seems to work on some, not on others. doesn't matter what format) it won't do it(or play it for that matter).
This is purely for entertainment reasons.

You can speed up or slow down video using Media Player Classic. To do that, use the double arrows below the slider.

I don't know of any video players that can do any better than that, but some video editors (such as Adobe Premiere) may have more advanced features.

The easiest way would be to use
TMPGEnc to convert it to an MPEG, although it usually doesn't reduce the file size very much. For better compression, use
VirtualDub and a codec such as
XviD.

BSPlayer can do it. Right click on its on playback I think. Gives you options for increments.

How do you uninstall Cinemaforge? I need all the memory and HD space I can get so to do so I need to un install uneeded programs. Cinemaforge is one of them. I downloaded it a while back to get some videos off of youtube for some AMVs, but not until after I downloaded it I found out that it didn't have an uninstaller.
So can anyone tell me how to do a semi-clean uninstall and tell me what files to delete without making my computer die quicker then it alredy is?
Also I want to know why I keep getting windows exsplorer errors that crash my computer....

See the May 4 review on
this page for the correct files to remove. To unregister the .ocx files, go to Start > Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt, and type these lines one at a time:
regsvr32 /u xmirageu.ocx
regsvr32 /u xmirage.ocx

Check the Event Viewer (Start > Settings > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer) for any errors or warnings. Also, check the Device Manager (right-click My Computer > Properties > Hardware > Device Manager) for any problems to see if you need to update any drivers.

I have tried a number of different versions of the driver from the manufacturer's website, there seems to be no change in the problem.
And, another problem, on my main computer. I put in a DVD today, and it wouldn't play. It's FF7: Advent Children.
It has played before.
Windows Media Player said there was a problem, that the screen resolution or color quality was too high, and to lower them. (lowering them did not help).
Intervideo WinDVD just does nothing. I hit play and it does nothing.
Media Player Classic brings up the video, but it plays no audio.
I've tried a few more DVDs, and I'm getting the same problem.

It sounds like some sort of conflict in the codecs that allow DVD playback. Try completely uninstalling WinDVD and see if the problems with WMP and MPC are resolved.

What is lorer.exe what program is ascociated with? CinemaForge? Because I never herd of it before....I mean I know XviD is a codec I downloaded when I downloaded the AMVapp from AMV.org for my videos. But why would it be crashing my computer? should I just like uninstall the AMVapp thing and re-install it or do I just need to update XviD?
I say CinemaForge for the simple reason is that lately (Namely, 4 hours ago) every time I try to use it to covert flv files to avi files it always seems to currupt the file and I end up having my computer crash on me. I haven't tried it since I did a defrag...frankly I'm afraid to....

That's actually "explorer.exe," but it's wrapping around since the column is only 8 characters wide. I've never been a fan of codec packs since they tend to install too many unnecessary codecs/programs along with the necessary ones, so I would recommend uninstalling AMVapp completely, then installing the individual components that you need. Since it sounds like you're both encoding and decoding using XviD, installing the latest version of it from
here would be a good place to start. From there, you can install the other codecs as necessary.

For encoding, I think a better option would be either
VirtualDub or
VirtualDubMod. These two don't require any installation and make very minimal changes to the registry unlike other programs, so they are much less likely to cause stability problems.

Dr. Watson is a debugger built into Windows that is supposed to help collect information about and recover from errors, but in this case it looks like it's causing them instead... It's hard to determine the cause of the problem when components of Windows are crashing, so I would recommend scanning for viruses and spyware using the latest definitions. You could also try
MemTest to see if your RAM has any problems.
