code:
1:
about:plugins
and press Enter. Do you see any entries listed for QuickTime? If not, try uninstalling QuickTime and installing it again, copying the plugins again if necessary. If you do see them, go here and click the "The 12 Days of Christmas" link (you may need to temporarily enable popups if a new window doesn't appear). Do you see a QuickTime player in the popup window? If so, does it start automatically, or do you have to click the play button? If everything works properly (i.e., the song starts automatically and you can hear it), the problem is in the JavaScript code (I can also help you debug that).

There were plugins for Quicktime on thelist. I went to the site and did as you said, and got the error saying "additional plugins are required to display all the media on this page" and it had an 'install missing plugins.' it then said the plugin was Apple Quicktime, and when I said OK, it took me to the Quicktime installation site.

So.. i'm guessing, either reinstall quicktime, or maybe go to Quicktime's updater and see if there is a Firefox plugin to install?

I know how to fix this.. I think. Open up quicktime, go to edit > preferences > Quicktime preferences

When there click on MIME settings, check in audio and make sure WAVE is checked then look in MP3 maie sure MP3 audio file is checked.

Eh.. that had absolutely no effect at all ^^;;;;;;

edit: strike that. now i can't view movies on Google Video x.x it comes up w/a big Quicktime logo w/an X. so i undid what i changed and it still does that.. i can't see the little mp3 players on Myspace either...

whoops...

That's strange, the plugins should work if they are listed on the about :plugins page. I would definitely recommend closing Firefox, uninstalling QuickTime, removing any remaining npqtplugin.dll files from the plugins folder, and installing the latest version again. After the installation is complete, restart your computer, configure the MIME settings (as Dingo described), then start Firefox and try testing the plugin again.

Ok did that... and things got worse x.x i STILL can't use the player for the code I gave before, when using Firefox i can't see the audio or video players (there is a dimmed Quicktime logo w/a "?", sorry i said "X" b4 that was a typo), and now on Internet Explorer, i can use the audio players but the video players have the same Quicktime problem.

Since these are all quicktime things, could it be that that problematic program from the beginning was Java or WMP, and by messing w/Quicktime, i'm making it worse?

If both Firefox and IE are having problems viewing the QuickTime video, it sounds like a problem with the source video rather than the plugin. Try a different video, such as this one, to double check that QuickTime is installed properly.

The problem with the code on your friend's Xanga is definitely QuickTime related, but the code you posted could work with either QuickTime or WMP. If you want to try setting up WMP to work with Firefox to see if it helps, see this post (and this post if you can't find those files).

That animation works on both IE and Firefox.

I copied those files over (they were already in the Firefox plugin directory but I just copied over them anyway). It didn't do anything for the player.
The reason I don't think it's the videos is because until I started messing w/the Quicktime MIME settings, the audio players on Myspace and all of the video players still worked, and now they have those Quicktime logos in their place instead. Maybe they originally ran w/other programs (java, flash?) and I've messed with the original settings by trying to fix the original problem.

EDIT: i've decided to see how things work currently w/all 3 of my browsers: Firefox, IE, and SBC Yahoo Browser.
originally, before, IE and Yahoo worked fine for all the audio and video, and displaying the stuff on my friend's xanga.
Firefox just could not correctly use the code for the audio player i posted before, and had problem's w/my friend's xanga.

IE and Yahoo can currently both run the audio players I have, as well as the ones built into Myspace. Both show the Quicktime error if I use a video code like this:
code:
1:
<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/6rYBrM8JHB4"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/6rYBrM8JHB4" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

yet, if you go to the website that gives this code and displays the video, you can watch this on SBC Yahoo and IE. Neither Browser will play videos on Google Video; it just appears as blank white space.

Firefox still can't run the audio player from my xanga correctly, and cannot display my friend's xanga correctly (nice pretty borders he has put up). It brings up the Quicktime error for all other audio players, with the exception of those that appear as WMP. It can also play movies that are WMP. But it cannot play movies from yourtube.com, or Google Video, and shows the quicktime error instead.

EDIT: booyah.. some of my personal experimentation actually WORKED. on a hunch, i uninstalled Flash and Shockwave player, disabled Quicktime playing Flash files, then reinstalled them. poof, i've repaired Firefox to how it was before! i still cannot view MY audio player, and my friend's xanga still does not work, but all other audio players and video players work again. so we're back to square one. but i think that's better than where we were b4..

Glad to hear you got that working. I almost forgot that QuickTime has the option to handle Flash files, although it does a very bad job of it...

However, after testing the music on your friend's blog on Mozilla and IE, I realized that the problem is not with your browser or the code, but the fact that the MIDI file is no longer available and generates a 404 error instead. But since the QuickTime test video worked for you, it seems that Firefox should now work with embedded audio.

I also tested your music player in Mozilla, and the problem actually appears to be some IE-specific code in the JavaScript (object tags with class IDs are not supported in browsers other than IE). It would probably be best to look for a more compatible music player, but if you can't find one that has the features you want, I could help rewrite this one to work with Firefox as well.

Yeah, I could go to the quicktime site and see their little video but I can't watch your 12 days of Xmas right now..

When I found that code there, I used IE as my main browser and it took me forever to find a player that worked (i just wanted one that could play, pause, and choose songs from a playlist). so if there is a way to fix this one, that would be appreciated, but if there is a better one out there online, i wouldn't mind using that either.

edit: ok, here is the most random thing. i have this adaptor that i can use to hook a playstation controller to the comp, i think i posted about it b4. today, i went to play.. and it didn't work. the controller has an LED that lights up, so i know it recieves power. but it didn't operate w/any program. so i checked the Game controller settings. it normally appears as "USB Controller" but wasn't on the list. so i reinstalled the driver. didn't do anything. i noticed that unplugging the controller from the USB and plugging it in different ports not only didn't help, but the computer didn't even make the hardware detected or removed sounds when i did it. i updated all of my USB hub drivers, and downloaded DirectX 9 full and installed that again (it required DirectX to work) but that hasn't helped. neither has simply restarting the computer. what's wrong?! oh and b4 anyone says it's the controller, i tested it on my playstation, and on my gamecube (the adaptor also has a GCN wire) and it worked fine on both.

The QuickTime plug-in appears to be installed properly since you could view the movie, so it probably just needs an adjustment in the settings. After closing Firefox, go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > QuickTime, and under "Browser Plug-in," first make sure that "Play movies automatically" is checked. Then, go to the MIME settings again, and under Audio, make sure that MIDI file is checked. If it still doesn't work, check the 12 Days link using IE and see if it works there.

I fixed some of the compatibility problems, but unfortunately, after doing a little research, I found out that non-IE browsers can't control the media object, so if I recode it, the option to pause will need to be removed (everything else should continue to work, though). Since that was a feature that you wanted, you might have better luck looking for a Flash-based music player (try a Google search for "flash MP3 player"), since that would be much more likely to be compatible with other browsers than a JavaScript-based one.

First, make sure that other USB devices are working to determine whether this problem is specific to the adapter or a problem with the USB hardware. If the other devices work, try fully uninstalling the drivers for the adapter, searching your hard drive for any remaining files from the adapter's drivers and deleting them, then restarting your computer and installing them again. If it still doesn't work, try installing the adapter on another computer, if available. And if it doesn't work after that, it is most likely a hardware failure, and the adapter will need to be replaced.

Sorry to bother, but do you know of a program that can burn .BIN files without converting it to an ISO? I say this because I need to burn a disc and need the .CUE file for the tracklistings and whatnot.

Or something that can let me copy the CD from a virtual drive.

If you're using Windows, burnatonce has support for bin/cue files as well as iso. It works pretty well for the most part, and I used this program often when I was still using Windows.

For Linux, Gnomebaker or K3B both work very well for me. The reason I mention Linux programs as well is because I remember you once used Linux before, so I figured I'd mention those programs as well.

I hope that helps.

i found a flashplayer that seemed good, the one found here. it runs here on my home computer.. but when put on xanga, it can't find the XML file it uses.. so what i did was put all of the player files w/my mp3s, as well as a page that displays the player, and then tried using an IFRAME on xanga to make it appear. while theoretically it should appear, the IFRAME code doesn't seem to work on xanga. is there another way to display a page within a page?

Other USB devices on my computer do still work, and i had already tried uninstalling the drivers and looking for any additional files, but i'll try again. before that, though, i'll try running it on another computer and seeing if that works or not.

As far as I know, an IFRAME is the only way to do that. However, I happened to come across this, which is a modified (older?) version of the same flash player with the ability to use remotely hosted XML files. I haven't tested it so I'm not sure whether or not it will work, but it seems to be geared toward online journals.

I wanted to make an AMV.....but It's just to much of a hassle. Downloading the Ripper and the needed ASPI drivers. But I just want to know something....How do I un install those drivers? Because I really don't want to use something that's out of date (I mean 2002?!) and it's alredy slowed my computer down more then it useualy is....I just want them out of there....so how do I get them out, seeing as how there's no un-instal option with the folder.
Krang 01-24-2006 10:27 PM
First, download ForceASPI from here. Then, run dumpASPI (to back up the ASPI drivers), killASPI (to remove the ASPI drivers), and killDUMP (to remove the backup). Then, restart your computer and the drivers will be gone.

I tried to install Myst 4 on my PC but it froze in the middle of installation. At first I thought it was the DVD drive because my dad says it froze after he removed a disk he was burning from the drive. However, I'm not so sure anymore because my brother tried to install Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic using the CD drive and it also froze during installation. I have Windows XP (Service Pack 2) and my computer should be more than capable of running these games.

I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it, but both games used InstallShield during installation, but lot's of games use that anyway.

First it would freeze but I can still move the mouse, then it would beep and the mouse would also freeze. It usually happens if I try to cancel the installation or when I have to switch from disk 1 to disk 2.
NVWC2006 01-31-2006 09:00 PM
as a brief update, the player is working fine on my xanga now, but i have not yet tried installing the problem hardware on another computer yet.

Have you tried scanning for viruses and spyware using the latest definitions? If so, try an audio CD and see if it has the same problem.
