Be sure to avoid any trial or demo software, because those will almost always add their logos to your screensaver (and so will most shareware). Instead, see if there is any freeware that accomplishes the same thing.

is there a way on Windows Media Player 10 to set it so when you put a CD in, that a picture of your choice from your computer is the album picture displayed?

I don't use WMP, but I think this is what you're looking for.

OK, I'm having a problem. On my old computer, Firefox would play wmv's in the window. But on this one, I have to download them and play them in Winamp. I've downloaded Media Player 10 like five times and it seems like it's not installing the Firefox plugin.

Oh Snap!

Alrighty, here is my predicament. I was given a video codec pack which name escapes by some person or other for the purpose of running a single thing, which afterwards I don't need it.

I did have another codec pack installed, which is the K-Light pack.

This one I didn't use festers on my hard drive for a couple of months, and eventually I say 'hell, I'm not using it,' and uninstall the thing. Almost immediately my entire video playing capabilities get all screwed up, for everything, even things that have the correct codecs and have nothing to do with the pack I had installed. It's essentially got a bright gloss over it and horrible quality to boot. I'll post a picture in a bit.

So I try researching the issue and find nothing on it beyond a similar, but not quite the same, problem. More or less the solution presented by the majority is to simply wipe out all of your codecs except for the bare essentials and start over. I try that and if fails miserably. So I'm stumped, any suggestions?

Edit: In addition it doesn't seem to affect videos streamed off the net.... Why I have no clue.

Try searching your hard drive for a file named "npdsplay.dll" and copy it, along with "npwmsdrm.dll" and "npdrmv2.dll" from the same directory, into your C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins folder (you will need to close Firefox before copying the files). Firefox should now be able to play embedded WMV files.

First, try uninstalling all codec packs and individual codecs. Then, try downloading and installing a single DivX-compatible codec such as XviD and test it out (if you need a video clip to test with, feel free to use one from Paradigm's multimedia section). If it works, I would recommend installing individual codecs as you need them rather than using codec packs. If not, uninstall the XviD codec and try installing ffdshow-alpha instead.

I think this qualifies as technical help...

Yes.

First, get the newest version of ITunes.

Second, the best thing to do is make a seperate folder and copy all your desired pictures to that exact location.

Now plug in your iPOD.

Then, go to preferences, and click on the iPOD tab. Click on the PHOTOS subtab.

Your screen should look like this:

Check the "Synchronize Photos" box, and select "Choose Folder". Now find the folder where all your photos are saved under. Next time you update your ipod, all your photos are transferred.

Alright thats perfect thank you!

Hey. I have a problem myself.

I play WWE Smackdown Vs. Raw on the PS2 online. However, I am unable to create a game, and whoever I play against has to create the game in order for me to play against him.

According to a friend, I have to unblock some ports. Now, how do I do that?

If it's any help, I have a Linksys Broadband Firewall Router.

I searched for those files, but none of them were found.

Most routers have a browser-based configuration utility, so look in your router's manual for the correct IP address to visit in your browser (usually in the 192.168.x.x range) along with the username and password to use. From there, you should be able to forward the correct ports to your PS2.

In that case, you can download them from here and here.

sort of technical, though i'm not sure this will be the place to get my answer.

my new mp3 player is a SanDisk sansa m260. it's pretty good but there's one thing i can't figure out.

it has a function where you can select a playlist. now, tho i loaded files on the thing, i haven't loaded a playlist. so there are no files there.

i loaded the files in the form of directories, ie Anime, Anime\FLCL, Instrumental, etc.

lots of my files don't have precise or exactly the same artist names or albums. like, i could have Big O, The Big O, and Big-O, but they all end up as their own album and artist. that's why i want a playlist. makes things much easier.

the manual says you can make a favorites list. i thought maybe i could do that and it'd appear as a playlist and i could make multiple ones.. but nope. that didn't work.

i tried loading two different kind of WMP playlists on the sansa. it wouldn't accept the files. ok. so i can't figure this out.

it supports playlists... but doesn't!

so far is seems like the only thing i can do is make sure to put the same artist and album names on each file, which i CAN do but want to avoid. anyone know how to make or upload playlists for this sansa m260 (part of the m200 series)?

Here's a small question.

Whenever I open up my tower, I unplug everything, and once I plug everything back (I try to remember which USB plug went where), the devices always get named ______#1, 2, etc. And of course I can't removed the #_ because there's already something named that.

Any way to get around this? I remember doing it before, but I've completly forgotten.

Unfortunately, I am not familiar with that MP3 player, but my guess would be to try sending it a standard *.pls playlist through the USB connection. As for building a playlist from the player itself, I couldn't find much information on that, but I did find this in a review:

quote:
There is a playlist on-the-go feature on this player as well. It is called "Favorites" though and you add songs to it by pressing and holding the enter button when playing a song you like.

Hope this helps.

If you always plug them into the same ports as before and in the same order, they should always end up with the same names. Depending on the device, you could also rename it right after you plug it in, although I'm not sure if it will retain the name after it is unplugged.

Nah it wouldn't accept the *.pls and i know how to do the Favorites. ah well, i can deal.

i'm thinking about a change in my internet programs.
Right now I use the browser that came w/my dsl (SBC Yahoo). i also have internet explorer and netscape on the computer. i've heard of Firefox and of Opera... i'm wondering what would be the fastest and best web browser to use.

also i'm going for a new IM program.. i currently use Trillian, which allows me to log in and access my AIM, MSN, and Yahoo messengers all from one buddy list. i like the program, but it lacks webcam support and sometimes customized changes i make end up reseting to their defaults for no reason. i've found a few more IM programs online that can cover the different accounts and stuff, but i'm wondering if anyone knows from personal experience about some programs. otherwise i'll just have to download each and try them out.

For the web browser, it depends on your needs. If you want to have a complete application suite that includes email and other items, you can try out the Mozilla Application Suite, Opera, or the SeaMonkey Application Suite. If you don't need that, Firefox and Opera are good choices.

The fastest browsers on my Linux system are SeaMonkey, Firefox, and Opera. I currently use SeaMonkey. However, your experience may vary depending on your computer setup.

If you don't want or mind webcam features, Gaim is pretty good. The only problem is that file transfer with other users doesn't completely work (this was tested in Gaim 1.3.0, so it may be fixed by now). Version 2.0 is going to have webcam features, so stay tuned for that. I've also had good experience with Miranda, which is pretty fast.

I hope that helps.

Can I set up the web browsers to work with my Yahoo mail account? It isn't super important, just a matter of convience. what will it save me, 15 seconds to go to yahoo's website and type in my passwords?

Are the browsers and IM programs free? and i DO want webcam capabilities... Gaim 2.0 seems to already have beta releases, so I may try that one out.

You can. Go to this page for the instructions. Enter the information as provided on that page on the mail client. You can use Thunderbird or another email program to access your Yahoo! Mail.

All programs I've mentioned are free. If you want webcam support, I'd stay with the default programs that support webcam (such as AIM or MSN Messenger) until Gaim 2.0 final is released. I'm not sure if the beta version has webcam or voice support yet.

Yay, my firefox can play WMVs now. Thanks.

I was wondering...I know there's a thing you can download so that Japanese text won't just appear as ???????? or a bunch of boxes, but I can't find it. Do you have to download it from Microsoft?

If you have Windows XP, go to Control Panels and double click on Regional and Language Options. A window will open. Click on the Languages tab, and make sure that "Install files for East Asian Languages" is checked. Click Apply after that. The files will install, and will prompt you to reboot the computer. It's been a while since I've used Windows XP, so I could be wrong, but I remember doing that to get Japanese text to work with my perferred audio player. Hope that helps.

Here's the deal, I was playing some flash games and then both the windows (The one with the flash game and the main window) closed again like it did back here with the w2k Dell computer I had. This was the first time it happend on this computer.

I'm runing IE, and I have XP now and I keep it up to date....unless it's the mother board like it was in the Dell....then I don't know what's going on because the mother board shouldn't be going seeing as how it's a brand new computer (got it back in Aug.). And that's the first time that happend since then. Please tell me if there's some fail safe that closes the window(s) if there's an error....because nothing popped up saying that there was such an error....
