MouseKeys didn't work (or i didn't know what to do) but that program worked great, this is so sweet! i don't even need a mouse anymore Big Grin

For some reason, whenever I recieve a file via AIM, or MSNm (don't know about YIM as I haven't used it in a while, but I assume the same would happen), I get a message about ccIMScn.exe either not being found, or I don't have the rights to access it.

I've double checked both MSNm and AIM, both are directed to the file, and there's nothing wrong with it.

I'd really like to solve this, since I'd like Norton to automatically scan any files I get via an IM service, but if it can't be corrected, then I don't have any qualms about having to do it myself.

Try using Windows Explorer to go to C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus, then right click on ccIMScn.exe and choose Properties. Go to the Security tab, and check the permissions. If your account is not an administrator and your account or group does not have access to the file, you will need to log in as an administrator and change the permissions to allow it. If you already have permissions to execute the file, it may be corrupt and would need to be installed again.

Hmmm....... I don't have a Security tab. Oh Well

Also, my account is an administrator.

Oh, in that case, it is probably a corrupt file. Try uninstalling NAV and installing it again to see if it corrects the problem (don't forget to update your virus definitions again afterward).

Hmm, question since NAV came with this computer, and I upgraded it when it was needed, how would I go about reinstalling it? Do I need to download it again, and if so, do I just enter a key or something like that so I don't have to pay again for an order?

Sorry if this seems like a simplistic question, but I'll admit I don't think too clearly when I've been up for 17hrs. Dead

Oh, in that case, I wouldn't recommend trying to reinstall it (you could try to find the original installation files if they came on a restore CD or a hard drive partition, but there's no guarantee that they will be there). Unless you buy NAV again or know of someone with the exact same version of NAV to copy the file from, unfortunately your only option is to manually scan the files you receive.

Ah, alright. Thanks as always Krang.

Here's a question that may, or may not have a solution.

Is there any way to increase AIM's file transfer speed?

Currently, I'm sending a large file, and while myself and the other person both have high-speed connections, it's only being transfered at 16kb. It started out at 21kb, but dropped quickly.

I don't have any other uploads/downloads in progress, and the only other program that's using the internet is Firefox.

I googled it, but nothing. I figure if anyone could come up with something, it'd be you Krang.

Is the other person downloading or uploading anything? To get the maximum speed, both of you would need to make sure that you're using as little of your Internet connection as possible besides the transfer.

One more thing to note is that although you may both have fast download speeds, most Internet connections actually have comparatively slow upload speeds. Go here to get an idea of what your maximum upload speed is (when you're not transferring any files), and if it's much higher than the speed at which you're uploading, let me know and I'll look into it further.

My WinAmp keeps "performing an illegal operation". And I NEED WinAmp in order to live! How do I get it to stop doing this?

First, try disabling all plugins that did not come installed with Winamp. If that doesn't work, try completely uninstalling Winamp, then installing it again. If it does work, you can try enabling the plugins one at a time to determine which one was causing the problem.

The uninstall/reinstall thing worked. Thanks a bunch man!

if i have a flash program that i can view on Internet Explorer or other web browsers, how do i insert it into a web page (and make it take up a specific height and width)?

To include it on a web page, you will need to use the <object> or <embed> tags. For maximum browser compatibility, it would actually be best to use both of them. Here is some example code:

code:
1:
2:
3:
4:
5:
<object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,29,0" width="384" height="288">
<param name="movie" value="file.swf">
<param name="quality" value="high">
<embed src="file.swf" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="384" height="288"></embed>
</object>

You will need to replace both instances of "file.swf" with the name of your flash movie, and both instances of 288 and 384 with the height and width of your movie.

that works, now here's a question unrelated from the last one

i'm trying to save themes on Windows so i don't always have to go around reseting my icons or whatever...but it won't work. i go to the display settings and tell it to save the theme as a file, but the file never appears.

i tried copying themes i already have as new files, renaming them, and then overwriting them w/the current theme... the file just disappears...registry then says the most recently used theme is the one i saved with the extention .sdtheme, which i assume is StarDock (i have WindowBlinds) but why doesn't the file appear?

also, what would be like the registry settings to change folder icons, or disk drives?

and..oh great..now my folders won't open right AGAIN.. last time i had to fix this w/System Restore.. if u double click, it opens a command prompt, instead of opening the folder..u have to right click on the folder and go to Open to make it work..BLAH

I'm not familiar with WindowBlinds, but you could try uninstalling it then installing it again to see if it corrects the problem.

First, backup your registry. Then, use Regedit to navigate to:

code:
1:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Icons
Create a new string value, and name it: 3
For the value, use the full path to your folder icon. Then, repeat the process using 4 instead of 3 for the opened folder icon, and again using 8 for the hard drive icon. Once you're done, restart the computer and the icons should be changed.

Check your (Default) value for the registry key:

code:
1:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell\open\command
It should be:

code:
1:
%SystemRoot%\Explorer.exe /idlist,%I,%L
If that's not the problem, look under "shell" and delete the value listed under "(Default)".

I've checked these values and they already have been the icon I want them to use set to them. in fact, 0-15, 18, 28, 29, 31, 32, 34, 36, and 40 all have the icons I want set to them. but it still doesn't appear.

I checked this value, too, and it was correct. so i went to delete the valued listed under "(Default)" but because it was the only key there, it would not allow itself to be deleted. it had no value given to it. so today i did a system restore and that fixed the Folder navigation problem.

but the icons still annoy me. and i will try reinstalling windowblinds as soon as the icons are set correctly.

Try deleting your icon cache. Go to C:\Documents and Settings\(your username)\Local Settings\Application Data and delete the file named IconCache.db (it is a hidden file, so you may need to change your View settings under Tools > Folder Options). Afterward, restart your computer and the new icons should appear.

it worked! later i'll uninstall WindowBlinds and see if that allows me to save my themes

no..uninstalling WindowBlinds had no effect, i still cannot save a theme

i wouldn't care about the theme so much, if i could just find a way to save my icon setup, so i can switch using sets of icons very easily and not have go through each individual registry entry when i want to use an entire icon set.

In that case, here's something you could try. Navigate to the Shell Icons registry key, then right click the Shell Icons folder and choose Export. Leave the "Selected branch" setting as it is, then save the file anywhere on your computer. Next, change the icons to your second icon set, then save the registry key again. Repeat the process until you have a .reg file for each icon set. Now, whenever you want to switch to a new icon set, just double click one of the files you saved, answer "Yes" to the prompt, and restart your computer (you may need to delete the icon cache again).
