Computer/Technical Help

i bought an adaptor recently that does PSX/2 > USB, GCN, and XBOX for the purpose of playing StepMania on my computer w/a dance pad.

the adaptor works w/a Playstation dualshock controller and a dance pad, but there is a problem

while the controller has perfect signal timing, the dance pad has a delay in the computer recieving the signal (i first noticed this by missing arrows and tested it in other games and the Game/Joy Pad settings on the computer) for whatever reason, when i use a dance pad, there is like a second delay b4 the computer actually detects that i hit a button.

it's the same problem for different dance pads (i have 2 w/LED lights, and one w/no lights but padding instead).

(as a possible add in, the adaptor works great w/my controller on my gamecube but doesn't seem to detect anything w/the dance pad at all when hooked to the gamecube)

dance pads have less buttons than a normal controller and no rumble support, that may be one problem..

is there a way to fix this? i'd give information on the Adaptor itself, but i actually don't have that much (on the adaptor it says 3 in 1 Converter PS-PXG03 Made in China). it was shipped in a box w/out a brand name, and had a driver CD for like 6 different adaptors, and on the gamepad list it's listed as 'USB Converter' i could try uninstalling the different drivers and reinstalling them, trying to see which specific one worked (because i think that when i installed it, it had the name of the driver)..

Ok, I updated my Java the other night, but now sites that are fully Java aren't loading for me.

I checked the JavaScript Console in Firefox, and here's what it says:
quote:
Error: postamble is not defined
Source File: -input site here- Line: 60

Same thing with another site,
quote:
Error: postamble is not defined
Source File: -input site here- Line: 22

Something I need to set/reset in Firefox? Confused

To correct that, I'm pretty sure that you need to adjust the timing in Stepmania to work with your USB adapter. Try using this tutorial (scroll down past the dashed line) to adjust the timing and see if it helps.

Despite the similar names, Java and JavaScript are actually two completely different things (Java is a separate program invoked by a browser plugin, but JS is embedded into the browser itself). Those errors were most likely caused by incompatible IE-specific code in the JavaScript of the sites you were visiting, so unless they cause the sites to act unusual, there's no need to worry about them (unless you saw them somewhere here, in which case I would like to correct them).

Ah, I see. Embarrassed Sweatdrop

Well the thing is, that the sites aren't displaying anything, all I'm seeing is a black page.

Er.... ok now they're loading just fine. Confused Oh Well

Hmm, well here's an unrelated question. Recently, whenever I make a new folder in my my main folder for all my files, I get the message ""Renaming, moving or deleting 'New Folder' could make some programs not work. Are you sure you want to do this?". Now I didn't always get that message when I made a new folder and then attempted to rename it.

I haven't changed any of the main folder's settings so I'm not sure why that's happening.

That means that there are some registry entries associated with your folder caused by running a program that writes to the registry inside that folder or by installing a program into that folder (meaning that if you rename or move it, it will cause those entries to point to the incorrect location). You can solve this by uninstalling any programs in that folder, renaming/moving the folder, then reinstalling the programs.

Ahh, I see.

Thank you once again Krang. Thumbs Up

Now I've got to figure out what programs I installed there, since I don't see any from quick glance. Embarrassed Sweatdrop

If your current hard drive is feeling a bit cramped, you might be willing to get up early for Staples' early bird sale this Friday. One of the good deals there is a 200 GB hard drive for $30 after rebate.

I'm considering grabbing a couple. One to put in my computer, one to make an external drive out of. Since, I have a relative with a few too many Grateful Dead Concerts (which I need, since eTree took them down for some reason) and extra space is always useful.

Thanks for the heads-up.

EDIT: Oops...one per customer.

Same here, but one question, can you add more spaces for extra drives in your computer?

I only have room for two at the moment, and I'd assume if it's possible to add another slot or two, there's also other connecting cables to use as well?
Dude Love 11-24-2005 11:54 PM
I think it's dependent on the motherboard at that point. Though, I have no clue how to figure out such things. I plan on using an extra drives I have as external ones (buy an external case and hook it up...)

Hmmm, I've got a really big question here. I've set ports 6060 and 59 in Zone Alarm Pro, so that it will allow transfer, and I've lowered my firewall to medium, yet I still get the message to switch to either 6060 or 59, and I have to go back to get the file that wasn't sent due to the Fserve not being able to send.

I normally have to exit mIRC, and start it again so that I can get at least one transfer complete, but the next winds up not sending.

I really wish I could figure out what's causing this problem. I've followed a guide on how to set ports in ZA, and I don't want to have to turn it off.

Due to the way ZA works, you shouldn't have to manually open any ports at all or lower your security. Allowing mIRC to run as a server in ZA should be sufficient for allowing those ports to open when necessary. This is more likely a problem with the other person's fserve or your configuration settings in mIRC. To eliminate one of the two, first try disabling hostmasking. This is usually done with the command:

//mode $me -h

although it can change depending on the IRC server. Second, make sure mIRC is listening for DCC commands. You can either set this in the options or use the command:

/dccserver +s on 59

The first command needs to be issued every time you log on to an IRC server, but the second will only need to be issued once (unless the fserve requires a different port). If it still doesn't work after making those changes, the most likely problem is a configuration error on the fserve.

Alright, I entered the first command.

DCC is all setup right.

I've spoken to a few others in this server, and they say sometimes it happens to them to.

Strange thing happened just a moment ago, I was anticipating it giving me the same message as before, and acting in the same manner, but once it couldn't send one file, it was able to send the second, and even stranger I was able to get back into the Fserve, unlike before.

Oh well, who knows, might just be this server, though I rarely go to anyothers besides this one.

How is everybody? I hope someone can help me as I am about to take my computer outside and take a chainsaw to it.

Yesterday it was acting really über-slow so I restarted it. Now I had used a program to customize my logon screen but the blank for me to type my password would never appear. I went to safe mode and changed it to the normal logon screen and it would say "Windows is starting up . . ." and it said this for half an hour. I know Windows does not take thirty minutes to start up. So I reinstalled Windows. But my hard drive still has 9 GB taken up from something, and when I looked up Program Files, all the folders from my old programs are still there. Can I get my programs back, or should I just delete the folders and reinstall them? I'm so confused.

Also, how in God Gundam's name do you get rid of those stupid Messenger Service pop-ups?

Brownies for anyone who can help me please, I had such a cool looking desktop thanks to WindowBlinds and now I lost it . . .

Since Windows was reinstalled, there may be some registry settings or system files missing from when you installed your programs earlier. Some of them may still work the way they are, but it would be safest to install each program again. Some programs, however, may remember your previous settings if you reinstall them to the same location as before, but that depends on where each program stores its data.

Download and run this program and it will prevent the popups from showing up.

That does help, thanks. I haven't found an Auto Adjust thing yet so i'm going on trial an error, it's better than it was though.

Is there a way I can use my controller as mouse/keyboard like device and scroll through normal programs with it while in Windows or other programs? that's not of any real importance but would be a fun thing to do.

Quick question, because I can't personally get a hold of someone who knows what they're doing.

I have a video a friend wants. Its a comedy special. Now, here's the thing. Said friend wants a part chopped off because said friend's parents would kill them if that part was ever played.

R. Smith told me I could do it with VirtualDub, but I haven't the foggiest as to how to do it.

Help!

Laughing

Then why didn't you ask me?

I'll whip up a screen shot telling you what to press in a second.

Hmm, I forgot that VirtualDubMod had more options on the format you want to save the file in.

Download that, and it's essentially the same thing.

Looks more or less the same too.

So do what the images say, then go to 'file', and 'save as', then choose a file type, if you can only do avi, then do so.

Then go down to the menu that says "video mode", and select 'fast recompress', then go to 'change', and then if you have the option on one of the encoders (i have quite a few, you may not), lower the quality a bit, so you don't wind up with a super large file. Then hit ok, then save, and wait a bit. Depending on how long the video segment your saving, it can take anywhere from a few moments, to a half hour.

Also, uncheck 'show video ouput/input' to speed it up a bit.

You can use this program to use your controller as a keyboard. If you would like to use it as a mouse, you could see if MouseKeys works with it.
