This is a small problem so give it less priority over the rest.. I installed Yahoo! Messenger, and have set it to start up w/Windows. So the taskbar Icon is there, and I will go to the taskbar setting 'Hide Inactive Icons' to make it 'Always Hide.' But unlike the other 'Always Hide' applications, every time I log on, it returns itself to 'Hide when Inactive' and it reappears on the taskbar outside of the hidden arrow thingy.

So...I don't know if there is a file to modify, or a Registry setting or what, but I just want the stupid icon to stay hidden, I'm sick of it reappearing again and again..I want to start Yahoo! Messenger w/windows but I don't feel like seeing the icon.

According to a site I found when I plugged the number into google:

quote:
Error: 0x80072F76
The reports are this is a benign error and does not cause any loss of functionality, the Auto Update Client is able to continue its detection, download and installation functions.

Just let 'er run. Smile

Ok, so I was having trouble with mIRC, and I found out that it doesn't like to work in a directory with a space in the name.

So I uninstalled it, and downloaded an updated on and put in in a folder on my C drive.

But, when I click on a irc link on a page, FF doesn't open it in mIRC like it did before.

How do I change FF's settings so that it will?

Is this problem Firefox-specific, or does it also happen when you try to open IRC links in IE? If it also happens in IE, go to Start > Run > regedit, navigate to the key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\irc\Shell\open\command, and make sure that it is pointing to the correct location of mIRC.

Try this: Go to Start > Run > regedit, then navigate to the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ CurrentVersion\Explorer\TrayNotify. From there, delete the values IconStreams and PastIconsStream (this will clear your preferences for showing/hiding icons in the system tray, so be sure to write down that information first). Restart your computer, then set Yahoo Messenger to Always Hide, and on the next restart your preference should be saved.

I tried it, but it didn't work. I noticed, that after deleted the values and restarting, that the settings on the tasbkar hadn't changed though, so maybe it isn't the only key value that needs to be modified/deleted.

Although this sounds unrelated, try this: Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs > Add/Remove Windows Components, then highlight Networking Services and click "Details...". From there, uncheck UPnP User Interface, click OK, and restart.

Make sure that you have the latest version of Flash installed. If you use a browser other than Internet Explorer, be sure to install Flash using IE as well.

No, still didn't work.

I've paid closer attention, and I realize that this problem only happens when I'm not signed into Yahoo! Messenger... apparantly, if I go to the taskbar settings, there are multiple Yahoo icon things..and the one that continues to reappear is called <no title>, I'm not sure if that means much or not, though.
Green_Bird 06-30-2005 11:08 PM
Theres really nothing on the start up that shouldn't be there....so....here's the win32 error:

Here's the weird part....it doesn't pop up every time....only sometimes....not to mention that it get's even stranger....the error I took a screenshot of I got when I turned my computer on at 11:15 PM EDT, but yet it said it occured at 4:12....Why would it do that now? Because I didn't get an error of any kind when I was on around that time, only after I turned off my computer and turned it back on.....

Are you sure that you're using the latest version (7.0)? That's really the only thing that should prevent it from working...

Do you see an entry for "<no title>" under the Hide Inactive Icons list, even if it has the wrong icon? If so, try setting it to "Always Hide" as well. If not, one more thing to try would be to delete those registry settings again, then after the next restart, set everything to "Always Hide" and see if it affects the icon that you're trying to hide. If it works, you can enable the icons that you want to appear while leaving everything else hidden.

First, try scanning for viruses and spyware using the latest definitions for each. If that doesn't help, try downloading and installing this update from Microsoft. One more thing to try would be this: Right-click the system clock and select "Adjust Date/Time." From there, select the "Internet Time" tab and set your time server to time.nist.gov. If none of these work, could you take a screenshot of the error report that you get when clicking the "click here" link?

Adware/Spyware scan - Nothing but Ad cookies...
Virus scan - Nothing, it found an exploit, but it quarantined it....

So here's what I get when I clicked "click here" I also included the technical details.......

Did you try the update from Microsoft that I linked to in my last post? One more thing you could try is to right-click the system clock, select "Adjust Date/Time," and on the "Internet Time" tab, change the time server to time.nist.gov.

Another thing to try is to empty your Temporary Internet Files from Internet Explorer (Tools > Internet Options > Delete Files... and click OK) and to empty your temporary files: Go to Start > Run, type "%Temp%", click OK. When the folder shows up, delete all the files. If a file can't be deleted, skip it and delete the rest. Once this is done, restart your computer. If you have tried these three methods and you still get the error, let me know.

Setting it to 'Always Hide' makes it Hide, but as soon as I logoff and on again or restart, it changes back to 'Hide when Inactive' and reappears.

Still, I tried what you said about the deleting the registry setting again and stuff, but upon restart, all the icons remained at Hidden and the <no title> Yahoo messenger one turned back to 'Hide when Inactive' and reappeared.

Another thing I noticed: when I close other programs w/tray icons, they go to the 'Past Items' list of icons, if I close yahoo messenger, the <no title> simply disappears from both lists, instead of being a Past Item..not sure if that means anything.

I'm starting to think maybe I should just deal with the problem, or are there other solutions?

If this only happens with Yahoo Messenger and with nothing else, it is starting to sound to me like Yahoo designed it that way on purpose. Windows probably cleans up the <no title> entries automatically, and Yahoo may be taking advantage of that by giving the window no title so that it can't stay hidden. If this is correct, there is unfortunately no way around this unless you use some kind of external program to hide the icon. If you notice similar behavior with other icons, let me know, but otherwise, that's my guess as to why you can't keep the icon hidden.
