Are DVD ROM drives region specific?

I googled it, but didn't find any answers. Roll Eyes

On mine, I can change the region a few times before I am stuck with the region.

I have no reason to think that isn't the universal case.

So, I've been trying to get the sites on ytmnd.com to work, and if you aren't familiar with ytmnd, it lists a bunch of pages that have gifs and sound in preferably humorous combinations. The problem I've been gettings says that Firefox needs to install missing plugins. I followed the little wizard thing until it told me I needed to manually install Quicktime. Which I already have. What gives?

The most likely problem is that Firefox doesn't know where to find the QuickTime plugins. Search your hard drive for files named npqtplugin.dll, npqtplugin2.dll, npqtplugin3.dll, npqtplugin4.dll, npqtplugin5.dll, and QuickTimePlugin.class, and copy these files into the "plugins" subdirectory of the location that you installed Firefox (if it's the default location, C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox, you would copy these to C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins). Close your browser, and when you open it again, it should be able to play the background sounds.

I'm having a problem with my Netscape. My perosnal toolbar won't work. I can't drag anything into it. I use Netscape 7.2. I am not upgrading. And I am not changing my browser.

AND I keep losing my bookmarks. Luckily I have most of them saved on a file but I keep having to load it. What the hell!

On the Tools menu, click "Switch Profile..." and then click "Manage Profiles." Create a new profile, then select it in the box to the right and click "Use Profile." Restart your browser, and see if the problem goes away (your settings will temporarily be gone, but they are not lost, just under another profile). If the problem is fixed, you can start copying settings over from your old profile to your new one, and delete the old one afterward. If not, you may need to try uninstalling your browser and installing it again (you can still download Netscape 7.2 here).

Type this into the address bar of your browser:

code:
1:
about:plugins
and press Enter. Do you see any entries for QuickTime? If not, you will need to uninstall QT and install it again, since it does not recognize your browser. If you do see QT listed, go to the QuickTime control panel and check your MIME settings under "Browser Plug-in." If the plugin is enabled to play the multimedia files that you wanted it to play, the web page is most likely using MS-specific code that Firefox does not natively support. In this case, try this.

Oops, I'm using Mozilla, and I assumed Netscape would have the same menu items. In that case, create a shortcut to Netscape.exe anywhere on your hard drive. Once it has been created, right-click it, select Properties, and add -ProfileManager after the shortcut name (you may also need to add quotes if there are spaces in the path). So, for example, if Netscape.exe was located here:

code:
1:
C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape.exe
you would need to change it to:

code:
1:
"C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape.exe" -ProfileManager
Keep the modified shortcut around, since you'll need it to switch profiles afterward.

Also, about the MPEGs, which plugin are you using? If it's QuickTime, try the steps in my post above.

It says it's not valid.

In your Start Menu under the Netscape 7.2 program group, is there an icon for "Netscape Profile Manager" (or "User Profile Manager" or just "Profile Manager")? If so, that will do the same thing. If not, try modifying the shortcut to say:

-profile_manager

instead of:

-ProfileManager

You'll need to close your browser first before using that shortcut, but be sure to have a copy of my previous post available.

It sounds like a problem with one of your startup programs, so try this: Go to "Run" on your Start Menu, type "msconfig", press Enter, then look at the Startup tab and see if there are any leftover entries from uninstalled programs or any strange-looking entries (for example, random characters). In addition, try scanning for viruses and spyware using the latest definitions for each. If that doesn't work, could you take a screenshot of one of those error messages?

Ok, so I was having trouble with mIRC, and I found out that it doesn't like to work in a directory with a space in the name.

So I uninstalled it, and downloaded an updated on and put in in a folder on my C drive.

But, when I click on a irc link on a page, FF doesn't open it in mIRC like it did before.

How do I change FF's settings so that it will?
