Rate the Avatar

It is not all that bad, to be sure, but it is not really all that great, either. Though the image quality is fine and it is lacking grain, the light contrast seems a little too low. The background is a little too bright for my taste, and it tends to overpower the foreground (Big Fau) at a moment's glance.

Since moment's glances are generally what people get out of avatars, that is a pretty cruical point.

The colors seem rather bland, though that could be because of the bright light overpowering everything else in the avatar. I think the black border is put to excellent use here; borders, I think, are a little overrated at times (and the black border especially seems somewhat overused), but it works extremely well with this image.

Overall, I think it is a decent avatar at best, a mediocre avatar at worse; or, in other words, fairly average.

Take a look at the timestamps before you jump to accusations. When I started typing up that critique, neither yours nor Wienberg's posts were made. Case in point: my post was made at 09:48 PM EDT, yours 09:47 PM EDT. Right, so just because I happened to take a few minutes to type up a decent critique that overlapped yours, I should be skipped? The fairest way would be to have both our avatars rated at the same time; I do not see why yours should take precedence.

But whatever, I'll rate yours anyway since you asked so kindly. But since my (relatively) detailed critiques (and I stress the relatively) seem to go unappreciated, I'll keep it short and sweet.

Good stuff. Though my edit is blurred, it's probably worth a 6.7/10 (a vast improvement).

Cutie Honey, again, eh? Well, you're certainly milking it for all it's worth...

...not that that's necessarily a bad thing, but just watch out for when it starts to become overplayed.

It's really a very good avatar, Umino. Though the edges are a bit sharp (presumably from resizing it), it's got lots of clarity. My one complaint (and this is minor) is that there's a lot of red. It's really hard to do, but if you can find a background that provides enough contrast to let her jump out at the viewer, while also not blinding, it really ties the avatar together well (at least in my opinion).

Rating: 9.5/10

PS - Almasy, the original image I used did not lend itself to a square box. And, I'd like to add, that my most well received avatar (the one with the Brooklyn Bridge in it, from Once upon a Time in America, was a tall rectangle (though not to this degree). Additionally, the reason I chose my border is because it works on both colored backgrounds for posts. As you've noticed, post background color alternates between lighter and darker. On the darker ones, the black border just doesn't stand out.

Weinberg: It's Clint! The avatar's clear and neat, although there's something about it that bugs me, but I can't put my finger on it. Nonetheless, 8/10

I love Fujiko she's so funny 10/10

Very generic, more 'powerful' picture of Big Fau would be better. 7/10

This one's better, but there are also a few miscolored pixels (generally congregating towards the top-right corner). The edges are a bit too pixelated, too. It just isn't smooth.

PS- Just as a personal thing, and an explanation of why I'm very brief. First of all, there's not much more than can be said. Also, I've never been a fan of the "Rate this one and my current one". It's the Rate the Avatar thread. The "the" is emphasized because, as a definite article in conjunction with the singular "Avatar", it means that you only need to rate one avatar. Hence, I'm never a fan of being told to rate more than one (and you'll see me do it very rarely). But, then again, I'm being very uptight.

First of all, white backgrounds are always really bad. They're uninteresting, and, as I'd always suspected and only recently have confirmed, drain the color from the rest of the image.

Which is a segui into my next grievance. There isn't much color to it. It's all very similar tones.

Next, the black black border is disappearing. I had to confirm its existance on the right using the Firefox Color Dropper extension (it can copy a specific color value). So, the border's fairly ineffective.

You had better ones, long ago, when you didn't have so much bright white and had more color to it.

The only thing redeeming this avatar is that is has decent clarity.

Could someone rate this one. It's accualy Kohta Hirano verson of Spike. Anything passed his nice drawing of Spike is so wrong...The kind of Bad wrong that you will be trying to get the images out of your head for a week after seeing them. And they're really, really wrong....But what can you do. The guys demented . So I suggest you do not look for it unless you are over 18 and/or like the stuff. The only reason I found it is, it was on the Hellsing LJ community (And I kind of regret it -_-). It's not like I like it or anything. I just like his verson of Spike....that's all!

Green Bird...that's a damn good Spike avatar. Good quality, and the look is just perfect for Spike ...dunno bout the border though. Perhaps a slightly lighter shade of blue? Or maybe a red border. 7/10
