Those of you who participate in the IRC sessions probably know about my biggest obsession: security systems. After talking about it (more like bragging, sorry!) several times, I felt it was time to show my best one. Here's my main system that I installed in our home.
This is the Ademco Apex Destiny 6100AN 96 zone instrusion/fire detection system I bought and installed last Febuary. This is a much higher-end alarm system compared to what companines like ADT (ugh) sell and install. Our system is set up with seven zones (sensors; I'm about to add thirty) and three keypads.
The Apex systems actually talk; it gives verbal status messages through speakers installed throughout the house with it's 475 word vocabulary. For example, in a well done male-toned voice "Front Door Open, Control is Disarmed." It can also control lights; I have it set up to control most of our exterior porch lamps and pre-programmed to control the lawn sprinkler system we might install this spring.
My favorite feature is the telephone access. We can call in to the system from our cell phones or a phone inside the house and control the system (arming modes, light control, etc.). I can also listen-in on the house through microphones located in the keypads over the phone. If there is someone in the house, I can push another button and talk to them over the speakers.
Here's a fun Shockwave demonstration on the Apex keypad on Honeywell-Ademco's website. Be sure to click on the little window and door to the right:
http://www.ademco.com/dealer_support/demos/apex_demo.htm
More info on Apex products can be found here:
http://www.ademco.com/apex/
Inside the main circuit panel enclosure. I installed the Apex parts over an exsisting system that was here when we moved into the house two years ago. All I needed to do was disconnect all the wires and reconnect them on the new board and replace the keypads. The black box in the lower part is the back-up battery.
Main keypad, located in kitchen near garage door.
Third keypad, located in hallway on second floor. The red light (labled 'HOME') and green light directly below it (labled 'AWAY') mean the system is armed to 'Night' mode. All zones are active and entry delays are cancelled in this mode, meaning the alarm will sound instantly even if a delay door is opened.
