[Suggestion] Slightly increased avatar size for Veterans?

X Prime 11-07-2004 11:07 PM
I mean... I know that the mods get them, but I don't see why it's barred for Veterans...

(Yes, I have an ulterior motive. IS THAT SO BAD!?)
Zola 11-07-2004 11:24 PM
I actually would enjoy that, I have the 125 X 125 one that I use at the backup boards and I am very fond of it Smile
X Prime 11-07-2004 11:35 PM
I was thinking more like 115x115, but eh, as long as it doesn't force changes in the sig rules so it won't stretch.
Krang 11-08-2004 12:56 AM
Ok, I increased it to 115x115 for Forum Veterans. If everything works out, we'll see about increasing it further later on.
X Prime 11-08-2004 01:32 AM
Yay, thanks Krang!
Seraphim 11-08-2004 01:37 AM
You know, at first I thought the 15x15 increase wouldn't make much difference, but now I see that I was wrong.

Cool edit! Maybe eventually we'll get the tall ones.
X Prime 11-08-2004 01:42 AM
Eh, I don't see much point to the tall ones... Maybe I'm too big a fan of squares.

...Wait a moment. Out of curiousity, what happens if a Veteran is warned? That might cause a few messups...

My guess is that the forum software would let them keep the larger avatar, but when they go to the User CP to change it, the new avatar would have the 100x100 limit.

Thanks, Krang. Just to show you relative size, here's the same avatar at 125 x 125 with the very slightly shrunken one below:

Crap, now that forum veterans actually have some sort of extra perks, I might think about reapplying...

But right now I'm fine.

Krang, I believe the Forum Software deletes the avatar if you're warned. I recall when Almasy and Nein were removed as Moderators, their tall avatars were deleted. This would lead me to believe that the Forum Software just removed it.

Well you had to be a mod to have the big avatar so being unmodded would take that away.

Good point, but out of curiosity I just tested it out, and it appears that my original guess was correct in this case. I guess those two must have changed their avatars themselves when they were removed from the Moderator group.

I don't want to be given and inch and taking a mile here, but is an increase from 115 X 115 to something like 125 X 125 possible? Just wondering/suggestion/pondering/thinking out loud/go backslashes!
X Prime 04-23-2005 11:03 PM
Really, avatars can go up to... 150 pixels width with no change in table size simply because the tables are automatically spaced with an invisible GIF to always be at least 159 pixels wide.

So yeah. Your only obstacle is whether Krang cares about the difference in filesizes in some posts.
Krang 04-24-2005 03:16 AM
It would be possible to increase it, but it wouldn't be a good idea to make the difference in size limits between regular users and Forum Veterans too much because then regular users would want the limit increased also, leading to overall larger file sizes. I guess a slight increase (5px or so) in the limits for all groups wouldn't be much of a problem, though...
X Prime 04-24-2005 03:26 AM
How about 105/115 for normals, and 125 for Vets? *Is shot for that kind of suggestion*

(I honestly just want the final or second digit to be 5.)
evanASF27 04-24-2005 10:52 AM
Personally I don't see a need for an increase in avatar size..well not one for the Vets at any rate. The Regular users could have an increase of avatar size to 105x105...but I don't think the Vets need anything bigger at the moment Cool
Mr. Fortnight 04-25-2005 01:34 PM
I'm all for a somewhat greater height for Vets and Regulars alike.

But I think the 115 width should be the ultimate width cap. I think a 150 height max would not be too damaging to the tables.

Of course, I can work my magic on a 115x115 canvas anyways, but a higher height limit would be rocking.
X Prime 04-25-2005 03:32 PM
...I will say it once more, for those who didn't notice, or chose to ignore it. There is absolutely no effect on tables until picture widths exceed 150 or so because tables are fixed to be at least 159 pixels wide. Zilch. Zero. Nada.

It would be kind of strange to just increase the height part, as that 'does' change tables (depending on the post and signature).
