Well, recall in a previous episode, they said that the sketch artists they got to sketch LM couldn't do it. Poor Togusa. Nothing good ever seems to happen to him, even in the manga or movies.
Doesn't Aoi mean blue in Japanese? I wonder if that's significant to the story or just a random trivia thing.

Accualy he was. I looked it up on Crystal acids.....So I guess we were both right, because I was thinking that too

.
But anyway, I picked up on the episode being an altered verson of the manga chapter. But it was WAY diffrent in a way, too. Sure they used some elements from "Super Spartan" But it was diffrent, like I said, from the anime verson. But I must say...those eyes in the plugs were really freaky

.
omg a kid hiding in a place for retards is the laughing man.
this is a shocker...I always figured he was a homless guy or something.
Don't ask me why I just did...

What exactly was it the kids were all suffering from in that hospital?
Closed shell what the mah who?
Otherwise it seems togusa got too close to the laughing man (boy) and was being fooled the whole time. We can't really tell if anything he really saw was real, I could have sworn when the major and batou showed up it was a statue on the floor with bullets in it, and the headmistress was gone.
And based off the quote it seems the laughing man (boy) is faking the syndrome, is he taking advantage of the kids talents too? Or what.
Oh and I noticed the headmistriss lady died when she found out he was section 9, I bet thats some sort of defense mechanism.

Wasn't that the Cyborg guard? Because I remember Togusa shooting it. But now that you mentioned it, when the saw it, it did look like a statue. But still, maybe like you said. maybe the things he saw really didn't happen...it was a really freaky episode like I said....

I think what Togusa saw was real, but nobody is going to believe him.
Also, when Motoko found him, the pool of blood around his head was missing...
Laughing Man/Aoi looks suspiciously like Fruit's Basket's Akito.

Learned a bit about the Laughing Man (or Boy in this case) in this episode. Pretty good episode.
I'm really going to have to watch it again. I saw it days ago and I can't remember the things I was going to mention. I know that I had liked it. See... I didn't even notice Steve Blum voicing that character. Gotta watch it again.

Okay, I need to go back to the previous episode first........
I think we get a really good look at Batou in this one. He's a pretty steady character, if a bit snarky. There is a sense of humor in him that doesn't seem let you know what he has experienced in his past. The fact that he could get so worked up about this...which I guess was predicatable for the CIA guys...lets us know that he's actaully got a compassionate soul. It's not just justice, but being actually pissed off that the guy could do this. It also seems that a lot of people underestimated him, both Section 9 and the CIA. They really seemed sure that he was going to blow the guy away.
Okay, this weeks episode:
Poor Togusa. He seems the least ready to jump into situations like this. However, his demeanor also seems the most likely to fit in. I mean, could you imagine Batou doing this? As far as his brain getting hacked. Seems very likely.
If you think about it, this episode makes "Chat ,chat, chat" more clear. Okay, say the LM is hanging out with the kids. Getting online seems to be a privledge for the kids. If one is online and decides to take the Major for a little cyberride and then the LM sees what he's doing and pulls him off. I'm thinking it was the real LM that she faced in the "library" as opposed to the kid. Or perhaps, the guy in the white suit was him all along. Lost yet?
Well, I totally missed that being Steven Blum. I guess i'll have to kick the kid off the Tivo and rewatch it.

I think that it's because Togusa isn't as strong or as tactically smart as Batou and Motoko that I find him a more interesting character. So I enjoy episodes that feature him and I hope to see more in the future.
Fortunately, this series doesn't have any characters yet that I can't stand, and I love all the main characters, so I'm happy no matter what happens.

Just a quick question - I thought Togusa was the only 100% human of the Section 9 team - no cyber-enhanced body or such. But does that mean he still has a cyber link to his brain?
Could someone explain the technology of this? Thanks!
Another comment - interesting that it turned out to be the Laughing Man. Up until the last minute of the show, I thought the episode was a stand alone.
The Laughing Man hanging out in this institution makes perfect sense - plenty of youths to tap into the net.
From what I understood, the place was for children/adolescents who couldn't adjust to their cyber bodies (or who became too attached to them, like the head mistress mentioned).

According to the first movie, Togusa has a "slight brain augmentation." Otherwise he is all human. Not sure about the rest of it though. Maybe they explain it some other time? Not sure.

Crap Crap Crap Crap Crap Crap Crap Crap Crap!
I wanted to see what was in that movie that made the major cry!
I guess the Tachicoma's are stuck with the synthitic from now on. Or in human terms, being regulated to only decafinated coffee.

Last night's episode was like two short stories combined, both fun. Slightly based off of a page of the manga where a Fuchikoma (that's what they're called in the manga) finds a cyber brain in a marketplace. Otherwise, it's all original.

Cute story. I was wondering why no one seemed to care that a little girl was following a tank around the city.
ha and batou can't ever get lucky with the major.
but I think someone needs to quickly explain ghosts and ghost hacking.
Is a ghost like a soul?

One question about that episode... Who was that shady little girl who looked kind of like a young major that was following the tank and the other littl girl around?

It probably was the major in a different android body.... I think.

I was wondering the same thing and theorizing the same thing.
Interesting episode. I noticed for the first time on the title screen above the running numbers they wrote "stand alone episode." Have they done this before? I'll have to pay closer attention!

Yes they have. Last weeks was a complex episode, as it had something to do with the Laughing Man.
Yes, a ghost is like a person's soul or concusness. That also explains why in the first episode a person was able to assume the role of another by swapping their cyber-brains out into a different body or shell.

Essentially, though it's more scientific than that (well, some would say so). Ghosts are essentially brain patterns, mind states and most specifically, memories of the past. That kind of thing. You can transfer them from cyber-brain to cyber brain (as in the first episode), or dub them (as with the South American revolutionary). All humans have them, but AIs "don't" (though there are always questions about that 'fact')
Ghost hacking is a sort of hacking that lets someone access the ghost in a cyberbrain and mess around with it, allowing the hacker to control the victim's actions. A minor example of it when the Major caused Batou to punch himself in their contest of "strength" a few eps back.

I rented the movie and watched it over the weekend.
it was a bit shorter than I thought it would be, but otherwise it was pretty awesome. Keeping in mind its been almost ten years the animation is still great.
the concept has been played out since it came out, but it was still fresh, and I got to see a slightly different take on the characters I've seen in this show.
