The Offical Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex/SAC: 2nd Gig Thread!

Schoolie 05-29-2006 05:30 PM
Could someone help me? Who was "that prick" that Batou recognized once they stormed Gouda and the Americans(?) close to the very end?

Interesting how Section 9 first acted like they were going to arrest Gouda, then blackmail him into staying in Japan, then they just let Motoko rip him to pieces with her machine gun. That's GitS justice, I suppose.

Oh please, please, please let them repeat this.

edit: Apparetly on June 1st they're airing "selecon" so..is that the episode in question? I'm incredibly confused as to what airs when since apparrently they've shifted the whole lineup

Sorry, according to Cox Communication's interactive guide thingy for digital cable, there's nothing involving Ghost in the Shell schedualed for Thursday night AS.

=\
Schoolie 05-29-2006 10:16 PM
I checked AS's website and they only have shows scheduled up to June 8. They had been showing the episodes on Thursday late nights, so I wonder if they'll eventually get to the final episode again.

I see it's scheduled for next Saturday at 12:00 a.m. Eastern. Wonder if they'll start re-airing Season 2 from the start. (Also, I notice they're pushing back Eureka Seven to 1:30 a.m. Eastern - I'll vent about that on E7's thread! Mad )

Season 2's season finale, Endless Gig, was alright. The music was amazing and I didn't really feel the ending with the cherry blossoms. But Ano Hito said that it was from the manga, so maybe that's way it didn't make that much sense to me.

He thinks he's slick (with that letter and the whole drama) but Goda got F***ED UP like you know what, and it sucks that Kuze died, let alone like the way he did. Come on, lethal injection? He should have been gunned down in a heroic way protecting the refugees and dying in Motoko's arms, saying that he remembers her, loves her, and then gives her a paper crane as he dies...

...But then again, I am secretly a romantic.

Also, this is subtle, but when Kuze was captured by Batou, I really liked how Kuze's aura was diminised so fast and effectively. Nice direction, and some nice payback for Batou and the limbs he losed as well.

quote:
I found it very amusing that they shot Goda's face in like that. It just, exploded.

I thought so too and damn, that was so damn cool though. I just keep rewinding it to watch that whole sequence. Couldn't have happened to a better political sociopath.

quote:
I liked it, but do they have to end every season with the Tachcomas bravely sacrificing themselves? ¬¬

That's a very good question. Although I liked how they died in the first season, I thought this one was nicely done and very noble in their part. And also, during that whole sequence, I knew they were sacrificing themselves but the strange-as-hell singing just kind of threw me off for a minute.

Yeah, that confused me too. I'm thinking he was in the very beginning of the season but I had no idea who he was as well. And speaking of this, what in the hell did the Prime Minister do? Who did she call and what was that whole thing about the Japanese fighter planes flying right over the American sub about? I knew she made orders to get the American sub out of their waters but the way it was handled was confusing as well to me.

quote:
Oh, and we all know that Batou totally has the hots for the Major.

Of course, and as she said, she does for him as well. In a distinct way I guess you can put it. Also, I liked that sequence between Kuze and Motoko with the hugging and the apples. That was a nice touch.
Peace.

Has anyone heard anything about a boxset for the first season of SAC? I was looking at an offer for all the individual DVD's for a fairly good price, but I'd rather get something smaller instead.

*I'm bringin' it back...*

I found this on YouTube and thought it was pretty funny. So I'm sharing it here.

6 Hot Japanese school girls talk about Ghost in the shell! This is a must watch for Ghost in the Shell fans!

Peace.

Thats...probably one of the most bizzare things I've seen in a while (then again I've been busy). As with most Japanese television I'm not even sure if I want to know the context of it, because it's just funnier if there is none....then again from what I've seen alot of their t.v. programming is pretty whacked out even if you're aware of the context its supposed to fit into.
Wingnut 11-12-2006 11:42 AM
That was good. Espically when they placed clips of the show in at certain moments to respond to the girls' comments.
That one at the far left was a bit odd though. At the end the rest ask who she is speaking to, and that would be us, you know, those behind the 4th wall that watch the program.

School girls talking about Ghost in the Shell. Although you are right, it would be funnier if they was no point. And... it looks like there wasn't. Or, yeah.

I like the cut in with Saito. But really, Boma?

Although I will say this, those girls were actually fine.
Peace.

I might not be Asian, but I bet I could totally PWN those girls at Ghost.

Well aren't you special, you know more about an anime than girls that are more than likely working off a script.

This isn't the Bleach thread...

...OH WAIT!

Anyway, adult swim is replaying the 2nd GIG season again for anybody who didn't watch the whole thing the first times around. Tonight they played the second episode, Night Cruise, which is heavily based off of Martin Scorsese's Taxi Driver. And its damn amazing. Obviously it can't touch Taxi Driver, but its cool how they take the given material, go the same route and show a different side to it as well. With the anti-cyber terrorism undercover and the cybertechnology and what else have you as well.

But yeah, they're playing 2nd GIG again on Saturdays on 1 now.
Peace.

You obviously messed the point, those girls probably don't really know anything about Gits and are only reading what they were told to read. So you saying you know more is like a "No sh!t!" moment.

I haven't heard the English dub... but it sounded nice in Japanese.

Anyways, I think it's a repeat of the first season ending, where their "ghosts" went to a safe place before their "shells" died.

Right before the Tachikoma satellite started losing its arrays, there was a short cut of a Tachikoma in cyberspace, fiddling with the "safe area" that they'd established according to Kuze's original plan. The Tachikoma floated in front of a pop up, reading, "TACHIKOMA ALL MEMORY." I wouldn't be surprised if at some point in the next season, those Tachikomas' memories end up in the Uchikomas.

I don't even remember watching this. I assume it was somehow so f***ing trippy even I just brushed it aside.

edit: Speaking of dubbing, do not watch the movie (the first one, ghost in the shell) dubbed if you've only watched the series the way I did. Or if you do go in forewarned.

I'm pretty much the last person to go "LULZ I HAET THIS DUB". I swear, whoever did the majors voice sounded like they'd just ingested several bottles of vicodin before reading the lines. It's the most sedate, monotone thing ever and not even remotely like the show.
Sharpshooter005 06-11-2007 09:43 PM
And the movie airs on sci-fi channel (I know, they've decided to air something potentially good instead of megashark versus superiguana, or a stargate rerun) in like...20 minutes.

Or you can watch the bleach rerun they've apparently swapped into shin-chan's 12:30 weekday slot. And be dead to me from here on out.

edit: Usually I can excuse transitioning widescreen to fullscreen, this is so noticable I thought my t.v. was broken though. Also if this isn't the same dub cast they used for the series it sounds almost identical, which is great and I was hoping for that.
Wingnut 06-12-2007 01:13 PM
It was the same english cast as far as I could tell, at least for all the section 9 guys anyway.
Oh, BTW, our little blue friends are back.
