Laughing Man Story Arc Compiled
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----
Bandai Visual has announced (Japanese) they are releasing a 140-minute compilation movie of the entire Laughing Man "complex" stories from Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex season 1.
In addition to animation from the series, the compilation movie will also feature some new footage and a complete re-recording of the voice track.
The straight to DVD movie will be released on September 23rd on 2 discs for 8,190 yen (US$75).
Disc 1: 140-minute feature, Dolby Digital 5.1 and Stereo, 16:9 Anamorphic Wide screen.
Disc 2: 30 minutes of extras, Section 9 Science File EXTRA "Tachikoma Days", GitS:SAC Documentary "Archive". |
The big question is....why are they doing this? I mean, just because they want/need money, or do they have something else in mind? I mean all you really have to do is watch all the complex episodes with only some scenes from the stand alone episodes and then you have this! Not to mention no one knows what the 'New' footage will be, cut, diffrent angles, Stand alone? Who knows...do you guys have any views on this?

Hmm . . that's an interesting idea. I guess it would work, if some people are just interested in the complex Laughing Man episodes.
Although, there are some plot points - like the Tachikomas getting deactivated and redistributed - that may be missed since that story was part of a stand alone episode, if I remember correctly. Maybe this is some of the bonus or additional material they're adding.
An interesting move. I wonder if it would work for any other anime series.

This isn't totally uncommon. Theres a similar thing going on with the x-files right now, they're releasing the episodes that dealt with the overall "conspiracy" plotline (the one I and many other people couldn't figure out by the end. But in my case..I didn't watch the later seasons entirely) as seperate dvds.
It makes more sense with that show, since you've got those episodes bunched in with the other ones in a season. And buying the entire 9 season series would be drastically expensive. But ghost in the shell...thats only 26 episodes.

Yay! I now have the ability to be in on this thread, too.

Too bad I missed all of the episode discussion. Oh, well.
GITS: SAC was totally kick-ass. It kicked many types of ass. It was one of those series where filler episodes are actually fun to watch! (Or at least in my opinion.) Amazing animation, music brought to us by the lovely Yoko Kanno, blistering action, gritty drama, and... tachikomas.
Although, needless to say, all the Salinger references nearly caused me to lapse into a coma. I had read
Catcher in the Rye only a few months ago for my English class. After thoroughly dissecting a novel in a high school class, that novel and anything remotely related to it gains a certain stigma that causes you to die slightly every time you encounter it again.
Anywho, I guess all I can do for now is wait for 2nd Gig to arrive. I hope it'll be as good, or even better, than SAC!

For whoever wants to see the first episode of the 2nd gig before November or when the DVDs come out, pick up the September issue of Newtype the DVD....
Just thought I would spred the news (I still like the first opening animation better, but for just a normal animated opening, I guess it's okay...)

Oh good, now I can get a head start on seeing what else is on.
Damn though. 2 months? It could be worse...I think it'll be at least january before season 2 of venture brothers, or the new ATHF episodes.

Yay! For whoever didn't see the commertial yet, new episodes start next Saturday at 12:30. I was pretty excited since we've been waiting several months for this and they already started showing more new FMA episodes.

My local library had the first DVD of 2nd Gig (It's a happenin' library), so I got a chance to see the first four episodes of this 2nd season.
And my judgment? . . . . Just as good if not better than the first season. The first episode has some neat action that has some reminiscent sequences for those who've seen the first movie.
Like the first season, it's a little confusing at first - with the new politics and a new conspiracy on the horizon. I wonder if some of these early episodes have ties to the larger overarching story - much like the first season's Laughing Man story.
The second episode (I think) is interesting - how it features hardly any of the regular cast at all.
The third episode is a little cheeky - but neat in a heist sort of way.
The fourth episode features some solid action with some welcome cast members.
Oh, and the new opening song/sequence is more jazzy/peppy than the first one. Different but just as good if not better. (Just like the show.)

I'm uber-excited because I loved the first season. Except I'm convinced since I don't watch too much TV I'll forget to watch it.

This should hold me over until January, when the new episodes of 24 start.
Because really...Section 9 is kind of like the anime equivilent of CTU except every second person working there isn't revealed to be some kind of mole.
EDIT: I guess the eye-hacking is Ghost in the Shells equivilent of "open more sockets", as far as the technology related thing that seems to happen at least once in every episode.
EDIT #2: "Well then. Go ahead and DIE".
Oh yeah, it certainly looks like there won't be any downgrade in the quality of this set of episodes. The

Otherwise this is GREAT.

GITS is back on Adult Swim, cool!
Just saw the 2nd episode of the 2nd Gig last night. It's a very interesting homage to the movie "Taxi Driver." While this episode takes place in the GITS universe, the personalities in the episode purposely reflect some key characters in the classic Scorsese flick.
The main character, a helicopter pilot, is a version of Robert DeNiro's anti-hero, Travis Bickle. Motoko exhibits character traits (at least in the pilot's mind) of both the child prostitute Bickle wanted to save and the woman Bickle wants to be his girlfriend, played by Cybill Shepherd in the movie. Even Batou seems to emulate the pimp Harvey Keitel played in the movie!
If you can, see "Taxi Driver" and then see this episode again. The references will be as apparent to you as they were to me.
And best of all, the GITS production committee didn't use EVERY reference. I mean, if the pilot looked in a mirror and started saying, " Are talking to me?" I would have lost it.

I just finished watching the 26th episode, and 2nd GIG is far better than S.A.C. I...can't believe...what happens…in the end. Nnnnooooooo!
This spoiler will not destroy the show for you but its generalness will bug you until the answers are revealed.

That episode confused the hell out of me for the most part. Was the Major really undercover as a hooker or not? That seems a bit out of character, even for her.

Not terribly. She's used the obvious "diversionary" effects of her figure like that before, most explicitly in the season 1 episode where she

Well, episode 4 of 2nd GIG airs tonight. I have a question.
In the begining of the episode the musical selection is that of a percussiion piece. It has an epic, thrilling tone to it.
Question: What Soundtrack is it on and what track number and title? I've looked through a Yoko Kanno website with all 3 soundtracks for sample listening and I could not pick it out.
If someone could get back to me with the answer that would be wonderful!

The song is called RISE. The approx 1 minute TV Edit version of it is on the first SAC soundtrack--last track.
The FULL version of it appears to be on Soundtrack Volume 2 according to the track list. It's a shame the show hasn't lived up to its soundtracks much yet.
