The Offical Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex/SAC: 2nd Gig Thread!

Good episode with the action of "assault on Section 9." Too bad that Togusa returned (yay!) only to get arrested.

As for the discussion between the Major and Batou, it was kind of odd to be talking about it right then and there as they were escaping. I think the Major was a woman, but she's been so "macho" as a soldier that her "ghost" would be just as fitting in a male body.

I'm liking the intricacies and political twists of these "complex" episodes. One complaint is that some of these episodes feel like they could be crammed from two episodes into one. Sometimes not much happens that could be compacted a little. I got the same vibe when I watched the second half of Wolf's Rain. Maybe it's better to watch in snippets of DVDs.
Ano Hito 04-24-2005 06:50 PM
Is it me, or have they drawn Togusa's face slightly different in the new episode?

Anyway, the manga implies the major frequently changes her identity, so maybe she was a man when first meeting Batou? In any event, she had to have started out as a girl, since what kind of boy would play with dolls? A wimpy one, right? And our dear Major doesn't exactly seem wimpy to me.

I can't think Aramaki would just give up like that, I guess he knows he is powerless against the military so he just gave his crew a headstart.

Aramaki didn't give up. It was a public relations strategy so that he could get the prime minister's cooperation to go after whats-his-face the party leader. (Is that correct?)

Though I do wonder why the prime minister would cooperate with such an investigation since it would surely lead to the toppling of his party's hold on power, and thus his ability to be the PM.

Can anyone tell me how many episodes are left in the season?

Only 2, both complex episodes.

And I'll have to wait until next year to see season 2...and hope I get adult swim when I'm in college..

I don't much like this arrangement. Why did this show have to be so good.

EDIT: I think its implied the major always had a female body. Hence the stuff about the watch that wouldn't fit otherwise. Or I missed the point totally.

Also I suppose that..nameless bald guy is pretty much dead, or it seems implied.

Crap on a stick college! I've been taking cable for granted....

Anyway, I know the major is a female, but I'm just saying maybe Batou doesn't know, or most likley that he is just wondering why she never picked a stronger male body, (he asks her something like whether its becuase its thinner).

I definately predict that retarded bartender guy is going to leak the info that one dude left in his ciggarette.

I personally think that Aramaki had no choice but to cooperate with the shutting down of section 9.
Ano Hito 04-25-2005 07:56 PM
Perhaps Aramaki chose Togusa personally because he knew Togusa couldn't survive the assault on Section 9?
BabyGhia 04-25-2005 11:39 PM
This wasn't where I thought the show was going to go. But a nice twist. Aramaki and everyone else have some kind of trick up their sleeves.

About Batou and the Major, I've always thought that he's in love with her. He hides it with his off the wall comments but he does. Got that feeling from the first movie also.

Going to be interesting to see how they finish this.

I thought that was odd too.

I never predicted it but it does make sense that Batou would have a thing for the major, at least from a writing point of view. I'm gonna keep my mouth shut on the reasonings because I feel silly about it Big Grin

Steven Blum is seriously freaking me out as the laughing man. All of his soft spoken roles totally creep me out.

I think I'm going to see if my library has either one of the GitS movies.

I'm a little late, but I thought this was a great episode. Very sad, though...

Poor, poor Tachikomas... =(
Raven 05-01-2005 12:13 AM
I don't really think they will kill the Major, so I doubt she is dead. She could have pulled another trick with a fake body like she did with Batou.

Plus I thought it was obvious that Batou had a thing for the Major. I don't know if I'm right or not, but it seemed as if they even got it on in today's episode. The thing I found to be the most funny was the fact that this was the first episode I saw where they use her actual name, and I have seen just about every one.
Negotiator_Roger_Smith 05-01-2005 12:21 AM
what is major real name? how u spell it ?

Motoko.

It was so bizarre to hear it.

Japanese words are spelled (in roman letters) pheonetically.

I've got to say. I HATED the dubbing in the movie (the first one, rented it from Blockbuster.) Normally I'm not too picky about that, but whoever was doing the Majors voice sounded like they were on horse tranquilizers or something.

Overall I found myself liking the series better, but thats just me.

Also, if you find the ending of the first one confusing (and in the context of the show, it really is), the show is kind of like an alternate version (maybe a prequel?), so thats why
spoiler (highlight to read):
The Major isn't in the child body like she is in the end.

Anyway, I'm sure something will come out of left field to explain away the Major getting her head blown clear off, I mean there has to be..theres a second season and all. It seems like nobody ever stays dead in this show, theres always some kind of loophole (they hacked someones eyes, they used a dummy body, etc, etc.)

But yeah, they're really bumping people off left and right. So far three have been arrested (somehow I'm guessing there will be either a jailbreak or a sudden exposure of...the...drug squad or whoever it is that keeps rounding them up, either in the last episode or early in the next season). 2 are dead..well..it's implied one is, and then there was tonights. And the Tachikomas were all basically slaughtered.

Not really an upbeat note they're ending the season on, but I doubt anyone expected otherwise.

Yes, but it was definatly a cool end I must say. It took us from anger, to suspense, to relief, to the Major's underwear drawer, to sadness. The action was also very good, especially when the tochcoma's showed up. I was sad to see them destroyed, even if I didn't care much for them.

Laughing
I'd forgotten about that one. We see this hidden drawer pop out with a few guns, ammo, and some gernades hidden in the bottom of it and then cut to a view from the top and what do we see? A bunch of lacey ladies underwear. I guess there really is a literal connection between sex and violence after all.

OWNED

This episode/show rules my face.

Big Q: Is the major dead or not? Normally I'd doubt it but I wouldn't be too sure. I mean the 2nd season wasn't planned when this one was finishing... whatever.

Who is alive?

Batou, Togusa, Iskikawa*, Saito (Sniper guy)

*I think his head imploded so I'm not completely sure.

I missed part of the dialogue between the other tachikomas, but did they explain why they never erased their memories before releasing them to the public?

Anyway that whole sequence was pretty cool.

Otherwise I'm a sucker for all this sci-fi politcal intrigue crap and all this action is only helping.

EDIT: FYI, the GitS movies and TV show are both based off of the manga but are not in the same continuity.

Although the TV shows has alot of references to the movie.
