Well those Tochcoma's did call them robots, so thats what I always thought the secretaries were. For some reason, I never thought of robots and androids as the same thing. Anyway, I found it amusing when they confused the one robot so that she just stood there frozen for hours.

Oooh, so I'm a cyborg! I wear glasses. Even though I'm getting contacts next week, I will still be a cyborg.

That's exciting in a very weird way. So... basically grannies with hearing aids are cyborgs? And so are people with prostetic arms/legs... And people with artificial vein inserts (varicose substititions). Wow.
By the way, does Ghost in the Shell tell us a short background story on Major? Or Batou? Besides the facts that they are cyborgs and are in the Section 9...

| spoiler (highlight to read): |
| As for the major, its brought up maybe..once or twice that as a child, when she first was switched to an artificial body, she crushed a toy without realizing her new strength. This is also in the opening credits. Otherwise..I don't think it's brought up, or if it is, I missed it. |

What would be the difference? Enlighten the ignorant.

And thanks so much for all the help, now I can actually get some things. And, since Major still has her human brain, then she is human. All the emotions and feelings are. She isn't just a machine, because she thinks like a human and has human feelings. |
A cyborg is a human modified by technology. Technically speaking, anyone who wears glasses or has a pacemaker is a "cyborg", but that's a very loose definition. The members of Section 9 are all cyborgs of varying degrees (though then again, so are many people in the general public of GitS). They vary from people like the Major and Batou with almost none of their original bodies left to people like Chief Aramaki or Togusa who are mostly human save for Cyber Brains.
An android is a completely artificial being. The secretaries that Section 9 uses, the Geishas from the first episode and others are androids. The technical difference between an android and a person like the Major are minimal to say the least. Hence where the concept of the "ghost" comes into play. Most people believe that only humans have Ghosts and that androids do not. But since Ghosts are essentially just memories and memories can be altered, who knows? At that point, it gets like trying to figure out who's a Replicant and who's a human in Blade Runner. |
One thing I want to add on to this: Androids are built to resemble humans, either so they can function better with humans or for artistic reasons. Robots are built in a shape that best suits their function, and it's pretty obvious that they are artifical. Reading this reminded me of how Data had to correct people who caled him a 'robot.'

I'm behind. I haven't commented on the last three shows. Oh well.
Batou and the Boxer ep. Very good. Really liked that episode.
Wine ep. Very much a filler episode.
This last one had some interesting twists in it. I wonder how the boy will do. Will he go back to being the same boy before all this happened? Will he be someone else? Interesting.
Show is still growing on me.

Well an appearence of a fimilar VA made itself known tonight. The assistant of the female cyborg kidnapper was voiced by Chuck Farley aka Dastun from season 1. It was quite distinctive.
I imagine the working relationship between Roger and Dastun in the MPs must have been similar to the one between Batou and Tougasa.

GitS is like a Big O va reunion or something
Anyway this episode hada quasi-interesting political mumbo jumbo plot, but it was really about gun battles, explosions, and fights!
Another good action episode to keep us interested as we wait to finish up the laughing man bussiness.

I am confused about this whole "Laughing Man" buisness. Is the Laughing Man supposed to be an enemy or not? Is he the main villian for this series? The whole aura of mystery around him is pretty cool.
| spoiler (highlight to read): |
| He looked like an ordinary kid in a wheel chair to me, what could he possibly do that would make him dangerous? |
Any kind of info would be appreciated.

I liked the ex-prime minister's daughter episode. It was nice to see some actual political workings of their society. It's interesting that as futuristic and explosive that the show is, it still manages to be realistic in terms of how people and societies behave.
The only thing I didn't like was when the Russian spy drove away in the truck with the captured girls, why didn't they bother following her instead of coming up with that scheme to get her to the embassy.

Interesting episode.
But I think I'm getting a little tired of the Stand Alone eps and it's probably time to start up the Laughing Man stuff again. But, hopefully, they keep these last episodes really interesting.

You're in luck. I peeked at an episode guide, and it looks like they're going after the laughing man again in the upcoming episode.

Poor Togusa. Every time something Laughing Man related pops up, he always winds up in a pool of his own blood. You'd think he'd have learned his lesson from last time...

Some other interesting things of note:
I like how they showed the clouds passing over Motoko and Togusa. I'd never seen that done so realistically in an anime before.
Togusa's wife has some kind of spouse-sense. I've seen this in real life too, and it's weird.
Togusa seems to have a special relationship to the laughing man case, even from the very beginning. It was his friend who died that started it all, after all.
I learned recently that the splash card subtitle for the episode with the boxer, "Ag2O", is actually the chemical name for oxidized (tarnished) silver. Deep, eh?

I really like this show. I have all the first season episodes and might even bootleg the second season of Stand Alone Complex.

Chances are Togusa will survive. That way they can use THIS lovely scene from the manga from where Manga!Togusa lands in the hospital.

Nice to be back in the land of the Laughing Man.
Togusa certainly figured out a lot in this last episode. As soon as I saw the Sunflower logo, I knew it had something to do with the Laughing Man. Now with the added info about the vaccine and why they wouldn't market something that worked (although it wasn't the technology they wanted to support).
Hmmm.... I guess we'll see.
And I wondered why no one seemed to panic when they saw Togusa lying there bleeding. Odd. I have a strange feeling he'll live. He's in the next
series.
